The official DOI 2011/2012 football shirt awards
Monday, August 8th, 2011The following is a totally (un)scientific and completely frivolousness opinion filler of a blog piece as we wait impatiently for the Premier League season to kick off. We fully appreciate the Football League has already played one full set of games but it’s not our fault that Premier and Football League no longer kick off on the same Saturday – hence why our awards appear this week and not last.
League 2
Nominees
Dagenham and Redbridge nude kit: their unique ball inflation technique is really beginning to pay off
Gillingham Town away: Pink and yet dull. Quite an achievement
Winner
Accrington Stanley (Who?): Shades of 70s Germanic magic in design. Clear winner. Perhaps only criticism is shirt could be make out of velour
League 1
Nominees
Wycombe Wanderers: for services to hairiest model and most use of product in hair (take a bow Gareth Ainsworth)
Sheffield Wednesday away: Dull design, dull colour. Makes me want to fall asleep just typing th.. zzzzzzzzzz
Winner
Walsall Town away: great old school design with a great old school shirt manufacturer. Well done chaps. And sorry he looks a bit wide in our pic
Championship
Nominees
Coventry City: this shirt would have won but the mullet ultimately cost it top spot. And all the tattoos - too many tattoos
Brighton & Hove Albion away: best use of a green highlighter pen and ruler
Winner
Nottingham Forest away: as an echo of the merry men goes this really does take some beating. Wicked and also weird. Love it
Premier League
Everton: this is good, right, but far too French rugger to be a proper footy shirt.
Newcastle United: both the home and away shirts are dreadful. In some ways this makes them a winner of sorts but not on our watch
Winner
Norwich City: whether you like the kit or not City had the wittiest kit launch of all the teams. We also love Wessi in this house very much and he's in it so it has to win. End of
