What Does Marketers do?
The discipline of marketing is universal. It is natural, however, that marketing practices will vary from country to country, for the simple reason that the countries and peoples of the world are different. These differences mean that a marketing approach that has proven successful in one country will not necessarily succeed in another country. Customer preferences, competitor, channels of distribution, and communication media may differ. (Warren & Mark 2003) This is where the position of marketers takes place.
There are two types of marketing professionals. One type: is someone who uses most of their time making brochures, web pages, promotional material etc. more of the advertising side to promote and sell their company’s brands. The other type of marketing is people who make statistic, make decisions on budget allocations, and design market place experiments and market research. These types of marketing constantly learn which marketing strategies work better than others in which situation.
Marketers intervene in the marketplace by changing what is commonly called the Marketing mix. The product or service, the place it will be sold/ distributed, the price that the consumers will pay and promotions advertising and communication. Marketing is not always a consumer product, it could be a service, it could be a destination, and it could even be an event. For example, destination marketing could promote a town, city or country in order to increase the number of visitors. It promotes the development and marketing of a destination, focusing on convention sales, tourism marketing and services. For marketers to do their job you need customers. Without customers’ needs and wants then marketers will have no one to target. In very pragmatic terms, the producer is a ‘project manager’ for the recording, mixing and mastering process.
