Narrative Essay
19 September 2012 True Love: I first noticed something wasn’t right while watching television with my brother and sister about five years ago. We all heard loud noises coming from my parent’s room thumbing, bangs, yelling, and screaming. My sister Jasmine runs upstairs into my parent’s room. My brother Joseph and I follow her lead. When I came upstairs to where my parents were I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. My father was on the ground and my mother on top of my father punching him in the face and upper body. I stood motionless in my parent’s doorway. Watching my father trying to defend himself and my mother putting anger in every punch. All I could do was burst into tears. My sister immediately ran to break up the fight. My mother was still yelling and swearing at my father. My sister looks at my brother who is standing next to me staring in amazement and yells “JOE ARE YOU GOING TO HELP ME!” What was once a light flow of tears became a heavy flood. It was such a huge night for me because I had always thought my parents were madly in love and that their relationship was perfect. I would always listen to my friends talk about their parents being divorced and the struggle with having to go back and forth to houses and how they missed having a family. I would brag Savage 2 about it “well my parents are still together!” Everyone in the room who has divorced parents would say “lucky” or “I wish I had your parents.” It wasn’t the really losing the bragging rights the upset me it was mostly the fact that in this modern day it’s hard to find that perfect couple that could give you…...

Super Sad True Love Story

...survivability of a species. Darwin was well aware of the food chain, but he never discussed how human elitism could affect the food chain. As a result of mass production, human ignorance towards other forms of life proves their elitism. Humans believe that they are the top of the food chain, and therefore, they value their own life far above any other life. They have a biological elitism. With their biological elitism, humans begin developing a superiority complex, which, in result lends them to believe they are a step above “top of the food chain”. Finally, humans can get pleasure from watching the destruction of other life because the destruction reassures humans of their superiority complex. Although each has a unique setting, Super Sad True Love Story, “The People Pound”, and Heathers are all connected in their inherent values of life, each providing a satirical approach to biological elitism and proving the sadism of humanity. Biological elitism starts with the devaluing of other, inferior life forms, which leads to the construction of a biological dictatorship. In Hunter Breckonridge’s story, “The People Pound”, she satirizes the lack of value humans place on animals by paralleling animals with disabled humans, calling disabled humans “duds”. In her story, Gertrude is a middle-aged woman who received brain damage at her job. She is the first “dud” of many seen in the story. The term “dud”, is inherently condescending. It implies a lack of social value in the object.......

Love

...True Love – in the 21st century. I was inspired by my grandparents to write an essay regarding True love. Next month, my grandparents are celebrating their fiftieth wedding anniversary. They have known each other since they were 14 years old, and I find it very remarkable. I find it astonishing how two people can keep their love for one another throughout for 50 years. It’s not every relationship that lasts for 50 years. There are so many movies, songs and poems about love. I guess it’s because it has such a big influence on our life. Considering what my grandmother told me, I asked her how they preserved their love for each other, she said. “It’s a lot about honesty, trust, respect and tradition”. It has been a lot of hard work, she said, and they succeeded. There will always be ups and downs in a relationship, but that’s the beauty of it. When 2 people are trying to solve their problems together and it hits you that this is something that you both want. That’s when you know that he / she is the one. Standing on the doorstep to my adult life, is certainly emotional. I’m surrounded by true love every single day. And it makes me think about, when is it my turn? When is it my turn to experience true love? The thing I’m trying to say is that, it would be nice to have someone to hold on, and feel out the lonely nights. I have never been in real relationship or been in love. Love in the 21st century: Back then it was till death do us part, but now it’s when our......

...Student ID – 89862838 Name : Jessica Desnoyers Date: 06/10/2013 Exam – 007868 True Love It was November 2010 when we first met the first time. It was love at first sight I got butterflies in my stomach just being next to him. The moment I knew he was the one was after we were together for a year we had our ups and downs but at the end of the day we’d be in each other’s arms cuddling. The moment he said that he loved me I didn’t want to believe it because I was always the one to get hurt. But with him it was different I knew it was real after I acted as a surrogate mother for a married couple who couldn’t have a baby. He understood that I wanted to help them and that this was very important to me. He was very supportive he was there for me from day one of course he didn’t like the fact of me carrying someone else’s child. But we worked together and got through it no matter what situation I’m in he’s always there for me. When we first met I thought we weren’t going to be together for long because most people don’t understand people with an anxiety disorder but in all the days I didn’t talk much , hide my face or just being shy in general he stuck by my side. Before I met him I promised myself I wouldn’t fall in love again because I just kept getting hurt but he changed that, at first I was scared of letting him into my heart but eventually he found his way in. he we first met I was scared my parent wouldn’t approve of him but when......

Love

...Love is a word with many definitions. Although, Webster defines love as a strong feeling of attraction resulting from sexual desire; enthusiasm or fondness. But to me love is not just a feeling, but it is the way that you treat the ones you care for. You should treat the ones you love so considerately through your actions they'll know you care and love them. Love in my eyes, is making that sacrifice for someone, knowing that you might regret it sooner or later. Love is how you make another person feel when you are in their presence. Many people show or express their love for someone in many and different ways. To me love is in the actions not the words. The true meaning of love like what is the meaning of life is one of the questions that will remain unsolved forever. But right now the love is a great thing that should be treasured forever and valued as a important part in your life because it will effect all relationships, romantic or not. Love has not changed at all over the course of history and this makes it the most important emotion anyone could have. Most people take love for granted and worry about it always being there when they need it the most.      Family love is another type of love we can think about. It is the love we use between our intermediate family and our extended family members. Family love is said to be blind, only to show that love can be shown to anyone no matter condition or problems one can have. Of course we all know about the good times, hard......

I am a firm believer that love does exist. Love means that deep intense emotion of affection, along with acceptance regardless of any flaws, and a safe place in one’s heart. Love is subjectively applied in differnent relationships. That is my interpretation of what love is. I will explain love between my six year old duaghter Aubrey, and myself. She has come to my bed in the middle of the night knowing mommy loves her and will keep her safe from anything. My examples of love will contain imagery of every day occurences that she and I have had. As well as referencing theological versus to really help her grasp the concept of what love is. I will aslo incorprate the variations of love with a child, the love of God, and love with a spouse. Aubrey’s counter argument is going to be if all these examples are true, than how come you and my dad do not love anymore? Aubrey: Mommy please wake up, begged Aubrey as she slid into the right side of the bed. Cindy: Are you ok Aubrey, go back to your bed. Aubrey: No! Please I am really scared can’t I just stay her tonight with you pretty please mommy excalimed, Aubrey. Cindy: Sure, Aubrey you want mommy to protect you from whatever is scary in your room? ...forms of love. Some are powerful and demand attention while others are more subtle and just below the surface. In recent years, love has drifted from these subtle levels to the more noticeable ones, namely passion. In my opinion, our society downplays the real necessity for genuine affection. By this I mean that we, as a society, spend so much time focusing on only one level of love (passion) that we tend to neglect and not recognize the need for closeness and trust (friendship). Love is an all-encompassing emotion that can be powerful and demanding, but also rewarding and pleasurable. What is the one emotion that has everyone mystified? What is the one emotion that has started as many wars as it has ended? What emotion has had more plays, songs, and stories written about it than anything else? Love, that one emotion that makes enemies into friends and friends into enemies. So many legends surround this emotion, from the goddess Athena and Helen of Troy to Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. There is only one happiness in life, to love and be loved. *-(* George Sand *)*- Love is the greatest gift we can ever hope to give or receive. Love is the one thing that can overcome so many of the difficult times that we are faced with in life. Love is so powerful - it can turn frowns into smiles. It can help mend the most broken heart. It can even turn all of the ugliness in the world into the most beautiful portrait we could ever have the pleasure to behold. Love comes......

...Being in love is like being in a dream. Being in love is like finally finding what has everyone has been searching for. Love comes to those who wait. Love comes to those who are not expecting it. Love especially come when we fall head over heels for a person. Love comes at first sight. Love comes from dating. Love comes from marrying. There are so many different types of love and finding of love. “Romeo and Juliet is always greeted by the young with immediate sympathy, somehow expressing the essence of love, what it ought to be, a permanent possibility, a fulfillment of every renascent hope and a thing to be admired” (Bloom 273). Throughout literature, the most noteworthy way of showing how a couple in love would do anything for each other is through Romeo and Juliet. The context of the play, Romeo and Juliet is about two wealthy and noble families in the town of Verona that are not fond of each other. “Two households, both alike in dignity (In fair Verona, where we lay our scene)” (Spark 2). There is the Montague family, where Romeo is the son. Romeo is around the age of sixteen and at this time of century this is when a boy will start searching for a wife. Even though his family is fighting against the Capulet, he doesn’t believe in it. This makes him a more susceptible character to have the ability to fall in love with out getting into other kinds of violence. He is extremely interested in love and will do whatever it takes to be with the one he loves. The girl he......

Super Sad True Love Story

...Super Sad True Love Story, America, next to of course god america i, and I, Too, Sing America, are all story/poems that in some form or another address the theme of American exceptionalism and patriotism. In each of the titles, it is established that America is not as revered as it once was or possibly could be and that change needs to take place. Through dystopian tales, satirical speeches and exaggerated ideals the authors of these works of literature try to identify the issues faced in American society. Super Sad True Love story is a novel set in a futuristic world that portrays America as a dystopia. The conditions of the country are horrible; the dollar is extremely unstable, literacy has gone down the drain, privacy is virtually nonexistent and social networking has reached unthinkable extremes. Through these mediums Shteyngart reveals that patriotism is no longer about being proud but rather about surviving. Throughout the novel the state of the United States keeps deteriorating and none of the characters realize how bad it is. Lenny in the novel still holds love for America and hopes against all odds that it once again becomes a country to be admired as is seen in the lines below. “I took out my U.S. passport and held it in my hand, fingering its embossed golden eagle, still hoping it meant something. I remember how my parents would talk about the luck of their having left the Soviet Union for America. Oh God, I thought, let there still be such luck in this new world”...

True Love

...Bound to True Love Sharon Olds’ Poem “True Love” takes the reader through several levels and scenarios of expression to explain what loves means to her. She uses actual words and metaphors to explain the “love” and care she has for her husband. Olds uses the word “bound” throughout her poem to insinuate that she is trapped in the relationship with her husband. The use of the word “bound” might have a negative connotation in this poem, but the speaker gives the impression that she loves her husband to a certain degree. While she never mentions the length of their marriage, one can sense that they are not newlyweds. Some might read this poem and get the impression that the speaker feels stuck (trapped) in her relationship with her husband while some readers may feel differently. The speaker starts by saying, “In the middle of the night, when we get up after making love, we look at each other in complete friendship, we know so fully what the other has been doing” (1-4). This suggests that, when a couple is in love one, they must build a friendship. This is why the speaker states, that when she looks at her husband, she knows exactly where he has been, right there with her. While they make love and still respect one another, they become as one. Further, they were bound to each other as she states, “bound to each other like mountaineers coming down from a mountain” (4-5), just like a code of ethics between the two mountaineers, through team work the mountain was climbed. They......

True Love

...Cheryl Sutton English 112 Section G 10/31/13 The Meaning of True Love It’s not easy to find real love let alone love that lasts a lifetime, but in the story “Love Medicine” you get insight to a couple based on the observation of their grandson. Through the narrator, Lipsha Morrissey, we are able to learn about Grandma and Grandpa Kaspaw and how deep their connection is. Grandma Kaspaw demonstrates her first act of love by saving her grandson “she saved me from my own mother, who wanted to tie me in a potato sack and throw me in a slough.” (Erdrich 275) Grandma Kaspaw loved her family and did whatever it took to make sure they were taken care of. In the story Grandpa Kaspaw suffers from Alzheimer’s disease “So I didn’t really listen to hard when the doctor said this was some kind of disease old people got...” (Erdrich 276). This disease really begins to test the love that Grandpa and Grandma have for each other. It is very hard for Grandma to watch him go through this “second childhood” (Erdrich 275) as Grandpa calls it. During this time his behavior is erratic and he does things that are very out of character. The catalyst in this story is Lulu Lamartine, who is a female on the reservation that has had a crush on Grandpa her whole life. She takes advantage of Grandpas disease and allows there to be relations with herself and Grandpa. “but even Grandma had trouble keeping her patience once he started sneaking off to Lamartien’s place….......

A True Leader

...A True Leader When we look outside in our business world we see managers, CEOs, executives at the top of their game. Businesses trying to innovate, new industries coming up, new work culture. Companies like Google, Facebook, Twitter which could not have been thought of fifteen years ago being at the top of the Forbes lists. It makes me think what is important to make it to the top, an idea, an innovation, a new way of thinking, giving people what they want or is it something more something to do with the people that come up with all this. Lots of people have ideas and ideas that might sell, lots of innovators out there coming up with new inventions and gadgets, how many of them make it to the top? We all have different thinking everybody is different, giving people what they want well I don’t really know if that is just the only thing required to succeed. Then what is it that is required to be at the top, for me it is a true leader. A leader that leads by example, someone who is aware about himself, his strengths and weaknesses, someone who has taken the lessons he got in his real life and put them to use, Someone who knows where he comes from and where he wants to go. There is no book that would teach a person to be a good leader, no study or research would give a definitive style (George B., 2011). So looking at it from the perspective that leadership is so vital for an organization and there is no definitive style of leadership, then what constitutes a true leader?......
