Persuasive Essay

To Move Out On My Own or Stay At Home? I live at home with my parents. I live for free, I pay no bills. The refrigerator is always full, my clothes are always clean as a matter of fact I constantly come home to find new clothing on my bed, compliments of my mom. I have an IPhone 6 Plus and have never paid a phone bill. I have my own bedroom with Direct TV and my own bathroom. I pay no rent. I have a 2015 Audi A3 with full insurance coverage, and I have never paid a penny towards either. What will become me of if I move out on my own? My so-called friends keep telling me I should move out, get a place on my own. In their opinion I should be out on my own, living my life and living it up. I have convinced myself to some degree that their opinion is right, that I am nineteen and I should be out on my own. That my parents have no right to tell me what to do, or how to live, or to expect anything from me. My parents with their rules to do well in college, maintain a part time job, stay our of trouble and to please keep my room clean are just way too much to expect from me. I should be able to screw up if I want, I tell myself, and have an attitude because I am a man now. I can treat people however I want. I believe that for now I need to get my act together. I need to realize what have and start appreciating all that my parents have given to me and continue to give. I must better assess the opinions and suggestions of my so-called friends, as none have the benefits that I have by living with my parents for now. I need to realize that I am part of a family and that my family will always be there for me. I need to understand that the people I associate with now just like in high school will only be here for a brief span of my life and I cannot allow their negative influence to intrude or affect my life…...

Robotic Surgery to Stay or Not to Stay

...Robotic Surgery To Stay Or Not Too Stay The use of surgical robots has increased greatly and is continuing to grow. Although these robots are already being used they have advantages as well as disadvantages. Surgical robots are only going to improve the outcomes for the patients, surgeons, and hospitals and will keep improving as time goes on, overcoming the disadvantages that are seen today. Many different types of robots are being used to carry out surgical procedures such as the Endowrist, AESOP, Zeus, PROBOT, ROBODOC, SOCRATES and the da Vinci being the most popular. Also there are many specific types of surgical procedures that are being carried out robotically such as urological, gynecological, cardiac, and general surgeries. “Shorter hospital stays, smaller incisions, less blood loss, quicker recovery, less painful, reduced rates of bacterial infections and blood transfusions, eliminating the surgeons hand tremors, more comfort and decrease in fatigue for the surgeon, 3D view, superior suturing skills, reverse fulcrum” are some of the advantages that affect the patient. Disadvantages involved with robot assisted surgery are “high cost, the large size of the robot, lack of compatible instruments and equipment, lengthy set up times, longer operative times, lack of haptic tactile feedback,” but are believed to disappear with more research and time. Surgical robots could be the most successful and most used technology in surgery in the future. “A surgical......

The Go-Between

...”The Go-Between”-by Ali Smith The British writer, Ali Smith, has found much inspiration in Article thirteen in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which says that everybody has the right to freedom of movement within the borders of each state. Approximately seventy years ago, The United Nations took a moral stand against human rights crimes and adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a proclamation of thirty human rights that everyone should be entitled to, starting memorably with Article one: “All human beings are born free and equal.” She wrote the short story “The Go-Between” to celebrate the anniversary of the proclamation. The protagonist of the short story is a 33-year-old man. He was originally from Cameroon, but in the story he is in Ceuta in Northern Morocco, where he helps people cross the border fence to Spain. He is therefore a so-called “border crosser”, a mediator between the French doctors and the refugees, or as the title implies the “Go-Between”. The story focuses on problem that occurs when the refugees who have been forbidden to cross the border, gets help from our protagonist; this ordeal is in no way in accordance to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Article fourteen of the declaration, further states that everyone has the right to seek asylum from persecution. This is not accommodated in this story where the refugees are sent back to their original countries as soon as they arrive in Europe. Because of the help that the......

...“#McDStories” hashtag, it expected to users to share favourite memories from the world’s largest restaurant chain. Instead, critics of the fast-food chain hijacked the hashtag and used it to pillory McDonald’s, accusing it of peddling unhealthy, unappetising food. The incident was the latest example of how well-intentioned social media marketing can backfire, putting a company on the defensive. While sites such as Facebook and Twitter provide unparalleled access to customers, allowing companies to interact with fans, they also provide a forum for dissenters. McDonald’s was monitoring the conversation on Twitter, and quickly took down its promoted tweets. “With all social media campaigns, we include contingency plans, should the conversation not go as planned,” Rick Wion, social media director for McDonald’s USA, told the FT. “The ability to change midstream helped this small blip from becoming something larger.” Yet the damage was already done, and the episode became a cautionary tale for companies. McDonald’s scored points for being quick to respond. “You need to be on it 24/7,” says Ann Lewnes, chief marketing officer at Adobe, the software company. “That’s one of the biggest changes to marketing today. You don’t just put a campaign out there. At any given moment, someone is saying something about your company and product, and you have to be listening.” Because McDonald’s was listening, it says the damage was limited, with the #McDStories parodies accounting for only 2......

Miles to Go

...MILES TO GO These CEOs say IT can go much further in helping them solve their business problems BY JOHN FOLEY WITH THE CEOs OF FIVE MAJOR COMPANIES sitting across from him, Microsoft group VP Jeff Raikes recently described how he uses three tablet PCs in his daily work, keeping his data synced up via Microsoft software. The place was a conference room at Microsoft’s headquarters; the subject, IT and business productivity. It was an unscripted anecdote of how one busy high-tech exec stays at the top of his game—and a stark reminder of the gap that separates power users like Raikes from millions of information workers. The discussion came at the tail end of Microsoft’s annual CEO Summit, attended by about 100 chief executives on May 21 and 22. They had gotten a full dose from Microsoft’s senior managers on the company’s business-technology strategy and philosophy—and dinner at the home of chairman and chief software architect Bill Gates. Each attendee was given a new tablet PC loaded with the latest Microsoft productivity tools to use during the conference and, if they chose, to take with them. Yet, as impressed as they might be with the gadgetry and software demonstrations, the CEOs at Raikes’ roundtable discussion— representing Accenture, Best Buy, Flextronics, Premera Blue Cross, and Siemens USA—made it clear that neither Microsoft nor the rest of the IT industry has satisfied all their companies’ needs when it comes to using IT to solve......

Because the concentration of hydrogen ions (H+) fluctuates the pH decreases slightly in the tissues and increases slightly in the lungs. The pH range of blood is 7.35 to 7.45 and is maintained by the buffering action of the dissociation products of H2CO3 as well as by the blood's protein buffers. 14 Assignment: Write the equations illustrating oxygen and carbon dioxide transport in such a way that you show 1) What happens in the lungs. 2) What happens in the systemic tissues. If I Stay

...FOR NICK Finally . . . Always 7:09 A.M. Everyone thinks it was because of the snow. And in a way, I suppose that’s true. I wake up this morning to a thin blanket of white covering our front lawn. It isn’t even an inch, but in this part of Oregon a slight dusting brings everything to a standstill as the one snowplow in the county gets busy clearing the roads. It is wet water that drops from the sky—and drops and drops and drops—not the frozen kind. It is enough snow to cancel school. My little brother, Teddy, lets out a war whoop when Mom’s AM radio announces the closures. “Snow day!” he bellows. “Dad, let’s go make a snowman.” My dad smiles and taps on his pipe. He started smoking one recently as part of this whole 1950s, Father Knows Best retro kick he is on. He also wears bow ties. I am never quite clear on whether all this is sartorial or sardonic—Dad’s way of announcing that he used to be a punker but is now a middle-school English teacher, or if becoming a teacher has actually turned my dad into this genuine throwback. But I like the smell of the pipe tobacco. It is sweet and smoky, and reminds me of winters and woodstoves. “You can make a valiant try,” Dad tells Teddy. “But it’s hardly sticking to the roads. Maybe you should consider a snow amoeba.” I can tell Dad is happy. Barely an inch of snow means that all the schools in the county are closed, including my high school and the middle school where Dad works, so it’s an unexpected day off for him, too. My mother,......

To Stay or to Leave

...To Stay or to Leave? Christine Amargo SOC 120 Intro to Ethics and Social Responsibility Denise Antoon April 21, 2014 In the United States of America, we face many different ethical problems each and every day. Some of the ethical problems that we have to deal with are hunger, war, poverty, crime, and terrorism, but the biggest ethical issue the United States has to deal ethical with is immigration. There are many issues dealing with immigrations, such as immigration laws. Many questions come up about this topic in today's society, like how do we stop immigration or do we even stop it? Not all immigrants are bad some are useful to the United States; we have to remember that the first people in America were immigrants. We do not have the right to deport others back to their native land. Many people from different countries try so hard to get to United States looking for a better life. There are many reasons why immigrants migrate to different countries, especially the United States of America home of the free. Some reasons are employment opportunities or careers that are not available in their native land, improved quality of life, and refuge from war. Most immigrants focus on making sure their children have a better life they had; those people show the theory of utilitarianism. "Utilitarianism argues that, given a set of choices, the act we should choose is that which produces the best results for the greatest number affected by that choice" (Mosser, 1.6). These......

Jennifer Go-Go

...Case Study 1 1. How should Jennifer go about making her decision? Jennifer should evaluate each proposal and use criteria that will fairly indicate what project would be best to invest additional money in to for future growth and savings. She can use project selection and develop a set of criteria against which the project will be evaluated, list assumptions that will be used as the basis of the project, gather data and information, and evaluate each project against the determined criteria. 2. What kind of additional data or information should she collect? I believe that she should request information or data regarding the scope, schedule, cost, and customer satisfaction expectations of the projects and their goals. I have explained each below for better understanding. Scope – All the work that must be done to produce all the project deliverables that meet the customer requirements and acceptance criteria and accomplish the project objective. Schedule – A timetable for a project indicating when activities are planned or need to be started and finished. Cost – The overall cost it will require to complete the project in its entirety. Customer Satisfaction – After the project has been completed the customer feels as if they have received the services expected and the project was completed to their standards and expectations. However I know these can be considered restraints and that should be a heavily weighed factor in the decision making in the end. 3. What exactly......

Go Hard

...night planned, they get dressed and begin their stroll to clubs and bars, some to parties to mingle, others out to a nice restaurant to meet their lovely date. However, no matter where the date takes place, there will be the same three types of first dates taking place: the drinking date, the activity date, and the stay-at-home date. The drinking date, usually the more common type of date, takes place at a club or a local bar. When most people go on a drinking date they usually do not want a relationship, but are rather looking for a companion for the night. In a drinking date the dater uses alcohol as an ice breaker or conversation starter. This type of date is a little more romantic than coffee, but less of a commitment than dinner. With the date halfway over the male dater begins to get a little nervous because he does not know how the night will end. So after the drinking date he walks or drives his date home and when at her house, continues to ask, “May I come in?” Some women may feel just a slight bit uncomfortable letting in her date, other allow them to come in finishing off their night with a little night cap. However, sometimes the drinking date does not go as planned and the dater ends up leaving the club or bar lonely and fairly drunk. The activity date, typically a little less common type of date than that of the drinking date, is a date for the ones who want to get to actually know the other person a little better. An activity date gets both people out of......

Should Hsb Stay or Should Go?

...FINANCE & ACCOUNTING Should HSBC Stay or Should It Go? by David Champion MARCH 17, 2011 London-based HSBC, arguably the world’s most global bank, recently described speculation that it was planning to shift its headquarters from London to Hong Kong as “presumptuous.” Well, maybe, but whenever you hear a politician denying that he will resign, you nearly always end up seeing him resign a week later. But the kerfuffle raises a more interesting question: Does it really matter if HSBC moves its HQ from London? After all, HSBC is not proposing to close its British operations. What is so special about where a global organization headquarters itself? Well, obviously it can affect a business’s tax bill. That, though, is a largely technical issue, because your nominal headquarters need not be your operational one. What we are really talking about is whether it matters where your key decisions are made or where your CEO makes spends most time. It probably wouldn’t matter much if your operations were really evenly distributed across the world. If that were the case, you could pick and choose from the various reasons a taxefficient locality that was an attractive place for senior executives to move their families to. But as Pankaj Ghemawat points out in his forthcoming World 3.0 (HBR Press, April 2011), very few firms are truly global in the sense that their business isn’t concentrated in any one spot. He notes that as recently as 2004, less than one......

To Stay or Not to Stay on a Reservation

...Native Americans who decide to stay on the reservation often do so at a great cost. The cost is one perhaps more evident to a materialistic American than someone true to the value system of many Native American tribes. The cost is measured in terms of career potential, the ability to experience cultural diversity, and income. Jobs are scarce on many reservations and contact with outsiders somewhat limited. This means that Native Americans are prone to having what might be considered a lower quality of life than if they were to pursue educations and careers outside the reservation. In contrast, Native Americans who do stay on the reservation are quick to list the many invaluable benefits of remaining. The richness and distinctiveness of a tribe's cultural identity is a priceless treasure to those who remain to absorb it. In addition, the shift in values from the materialistic, ambition driven American value system to a more family and spiritually oriented system is rewarding on a personal if not financial level. The reservation, even one which is several thousand members strong, is likely to feel more like an extended family in contrast to the lack of connection which is common to big cities full of migratory individuals. Considering the benefits and drawbacks of remaining on a reservation, I would be honored if I had the opportunity to live on one, and I would chose to stay. The uniqueness of the reservation life, which admittedly is full of challenges, still has the......
