Sons of God

...| The Sons of God | | A Sermon (No. 339) Delivered on Sabbath Morning, October 7th, 1860, by the REV. C. H. Spurgeon At Exeter Hall, Strand. "The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God; and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together."—Romans 8:16, 17. Y brethren, what a contrast there is between the present and future estate of the child of God! The believer is here the brother to the worm; in heaven he shall be next of kin to the angels. Here he is covered with the sweat and dust which he acquired by Adam's fall; there his brow shall be bright with the immortality which is conferred upon him by the resurrection of Christ. Here the heir of heaven is unknown; he is in disguise, full often clad in the habiliments of poverty, but there his princely character shall be discerned and acknowledged, he shall be waited upon by angels, and shall share in the admiration which the universe shall pour upon the glorified Redeemer. Well said our poet just now, "It doth not yet appear, how great we must be made." I think I need not remind you of your condition here below; you are too conversant with it, being hourly fretted with troubles, vexed with your own infirmities, with the temptations of Satan, and with all the allurements of this world. You are quite conscious that this is not your rest. There are too many thorns in your nest,......

The God of the Hebrews Versus the Egyptian Gods

.... . 0/ The GOD of the Hebrews versus the Egyptian gods Rev. Bryant S. Williamson Prof. Linda Reaves Writing and Research 215, Strayer University November 8, 2011 Intoduction There is a belief in a supreme being by all religions on earth. I believe that the same GOD of the Hebrews is this GOD because of his display of power over the Egyptian gods. This report looks at one account of many in the bible where GOD uses an ordinary man to free his people from bondage in Egypt using signs and wonders. The God of the Hebrews Versus the Egyptian gods One of the most awesome displays of power and love in the Bible is the deliverance of Gods’ people from Egypt. They were lead out of Egypt by Moses, a Hebrew found floating in an ark by Pharaohs daughter as a child. Moses, now grown, went out unto his people and saw an Egyptian beating one of his brethren and killed the Egyptian. After hearing of what Moses had done the Pharaoh sought to kill him but Moses had fled to the city of Midian and as time went on the King of Egypt died and the children of Israel (Hebrews) cried out to God because of their bondage. Thus the Lord remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and Jacob and sent Moses as the deliverer of his people. Moses is then encountered in the presence of God being called out of the mist of a burning bush and is given instructions to return to Egypt with Aaron where he demands that Pharaoh set his people free. And Pharaoh replies “Who is the Lord......

Who Are You to Say There Is No God?

...Melissa English 100 October 21, 2013 Argument Essay Who are we to say there is no God? Werner Heisenberg once said "The first gulp from the glass of natural sciences will turn you into an atheist, but at the bottom of the glass God is waiting for you." Even a man whose life focus was science and explaining how things worked believed in a Power greater than himself. Heisenberg was a genius and his theories couldn't explain away God. Although some say that the wonders of mother nature can be explained by scientific facts I believe the presence of God is all around us. Atheists argue that suffering and war come from religion but God is loving and all-inclusive; it is people in the religions that cause the suffering not God. Even though Austin Cline believes there are too many religions and different God's to go with them all (page 71) ; I believe the other gods are pleasing to mans desire. A true God would be contrary to flesh and be on a much holier level thus proving man made to please themselves. These man made gods are made of wood stone and iron made by mans hands. God has never had a graven image or a name like they do. "There Is No God" by Sam Harris gives the example of hurricane Katrina as proof there is no God (page 72). Harris uses the point that if there is a God "what was he doing while a hurricane wasted their city?" For one thing, such events shake our confidence in this life and force us to think about eternity. Churches are usually filled after......

When You Love You Should Not Say "God Is in My Heart, " but Rather, "I Am in the Heart of God."

...When you love you should not say, "God is in my heart," but rather, "I am in the heart of God." When you love you should believe that you are in his/her heart. For me these quotations teach us to have trust in our love once just like when giving trust in God. Trust is the very thing that everybody in this world desires, or at least should desire from one another. Who wants to have a friendship or relationship without trust? Nobody does. Without trust, there is no friendship, and without friendship, there is no love. I believe that trust is an even greater compliment than to be loved! I believe George Macdonald said it best when he stated "To be trusted is a greater compliment than to be loved." When I read this quote for the first time, I thought to myself, "Wow that is so true. How can you be loved if you are not trusted first?" It is a special thing to be trusted by someone. Having trust is very important. It’s a big part in a relationship. Being truthful is the key to establishing trust in any type of relationship. In a romantic type of relationship, jealousy can be a major cause for a lack of trust. Both parties must have trust. In any case of relationship, trust is built, earned, and maintained. For example: If you had an ex who cheated on you, you might start experiencing trust issues in relationships with others especially when you get close to one another. It may be difficult and you may end up not being able to trust the other person. When someone loses your......

“Cleisthenes Reforms Gave the Poor More Rights Than Solon Had Done.” to What Extent Do You Agree with This Opinion?

...“Cleisthenes reforms gave the poor more rights than Solon had done.” To what extent do you agree with this opinion? I think that Cleisthenes did give the poor more rights than Solon did. He went further than Solon did and reduced the gap between the poor and the wealthy by creating new demes based upon the area in which you lived rather than who your family were. Cleisthenes had gained power by promising to give the poor more power, in order to weaken his rival, Isagoras’ support in the political areas. This allowed him to have the backing of the majority of the Athenian citizens, as they were mostly poor. However, it also meant that he had to follow through with his promise otherwise he would have the citizens against him and his regime. In order to make sure that no one else could seize tyrannical power, new cults and military functions increased the unity of the new tribe. The loyalty of the new tribes was now to Attica and not to the noble families as they were grouped into three areas of Attica. The basis of the Boule was strengthened making it more difficult for ambitious tyrants to take power. Breaking up the demes broke the power of the nobles and the old ionic tribes they had dominated. Also, the Boule of 500 became open to all over 30, except thetes and was most likely selected by lot which gave no advantage to the aristocracy. They served for one year and reappointment was allowed once but not in consecutive years making it hard for individuals to dominate. The......

You Can Say Nothing Meaningful About God. Discuss (35)

...You can say nothing meaningful about God. Discuss (35) Ayer believed that ‘No sentence which describes the nature of a transcendent God can possess any literal significance’ therefore according to Ayer we cannot say anything meaningful about God. Through the verification principle, he demonstrates that all religious statements are meaningless, because for any statement to be meaningful it must be empirically verifiable for example the statement “Jesus is the light of the world”; is meaningless as there is no way to verify this. Ayer used the strong verification principle to reject any talk of ethics, metaphysics, historical and even scientific claims as they work in probability rather than certainty. The strong verification principle only regarded statements to have meaning if they could be tested in the past, present and future using sense or empirical measures to find the conclusion. Therefore statements such as “Jesus resurrected on the third day” would be seen as meaningless as we cannot test this claim in the here and now. Once again this stresses the fact that we cannot say anything meaningful about God using the strong verification principle as we cannot physically see him in our present time. This principle criticised itself because it not only meant that we could say nothing meaningful about God but also past historical events since we are unable to verify their certainty. However the weak verification principle allows statements to have meaning if the means to......

Why Is It Important to Know What You Believe and What Do You Believe About God, the Bible, and Jesus Christ

...It is important to know what you believe so you can make the correct decisions in life based on your personal values, and judge the best way to solve problems in your life. It is also important to know what you believe so if questioned you can intelligently address the concern. If you KNOW you can present the inquisitor with facts so they can evaluate them for themselves. My Beliefs 1.) I believe in God. He is the creator of all things including me. The world and everything in it is so intricate it could not have happened by chance or evolved over billions of years. 2.) I believe the Bible is the word of God. I believe this because the Bible meets the needs of all mankind. If you need comfort, love, forgivness, or faith you can find some verse or chapter to address the need. I also believe the Bible because I have accepted Jesus into my life and have faith that that the Bible is true. 3.) I believe in Jesus Christ. I believe in him also because of faith. Jesus died in order to forgive us of our sins. Just because I cannot see him it does not mean he is not real. No matter what I am going through I know he’s there. If I need healing I pray and believe in him. If I need guidance in making a decision I ask and trust he will guide me. The hard part is to remain patient while waiting for him to show me the answers I seek. While waiting I keep praying to stay close to him. ...

Kingdom of God

...KINGDOM OF GOD Kingdom of God Derek Fullmer Grand Canyon University Kingdom of God According to the Gospel, the translation phrase “kingdom of god” can interpreted into life in heaven after you die or having a personal relationship with God. Surprisingly a large number of committed Christians still assume these metaphors as life of the ages or life to the full, but in my opinion this is a misbelieve (McLaren, 2008, p. 1). For that reason, these principles may have small improvements on the meaning of kingdom of god, but it still misses much more. The metaphor kingdom of god is like life of the ages of life to the full is so rich and revolutionary that resists into a simple definition. As a result, it invites Christians to multiply metaphors and create parables as Jesus did (McLaren, 2008, p. 1). Therefore, instead of simply trying to nail down what it is, we should imaginatively explore what it is like. For an example a woman making bread, a man planting seeds, a net catching fish, and so on (McLaren, 2008, p. 1). Now some Christian’s belief the kingdom of god is the gospel rather believing it is the good news. For this reason, we as Christians are missing the whole point. The good news explains itself on Jesus’ sayings on, it was that the kingdom of God was at hand – which was a way of saying it is near, or here, or available, or live option – something you can reach out and touch (McLaren, 2008, p. 1). Moreover, the kingdom of God is not something you simply hope...

God Thesis

...101 God Thesis All through time men of different cultures have been in search of the greatest question of all time. Is there a God? A great Infinite being who is all knowing, all good, and created this world within which we exist in only seven days with just speaking? Some of the greatest thinkers of Philosophy have had their arguments and disagreements on this one big question. Some of the philosophers were for God while others were not. It is a question that no one here on this earth can answer. The argument that states that one should believe in God even if there is a strong chance that he might not be real, because the penalty for not believing, is the unthinkable anguish of spending the rest of eternity in hell. Where there would be no good thing since the person(s) had their good thing(s) while living. (p52) It is more prudent that individual(s) should take their chances to believe. It is in the nature of man human to be curious about many things with which there was no absolutes as how the situation would turn out. Let us then consider, withal our imperfections what the explores were able to do, they made the choice to wager and won what then can we today learn from our history? Therefore, I humbly submit to you why my views agree with Blaise Paschal. Who is the author of “The Wager” gives us some very perplexing questions that one must put a lot of time and consideration into before offering up an answer? I sincerely hope to convince you should......

Allergic lang ko every reception when the next bride would now be chosen. I just can’t imagine myself being a bride someday. God, Are You There?

...Sahiba Kaur Persuasive Speech 18 November 2014 Professor Liedke Topic: God Exists God, are you there? Today I will dispel the myth that God exists. God is all knowing and powerful. He created the world and us humans are created in his image. God is love, gracious, good and merciful. People who believe in God believe they are sinners when they were born, and trust they will go to hell if they do not believe in Him. Christians will believe they will go to heaven if they believe in the Christian God, and they believe they will go to hell if they do not. Muslims believe they will go to heaven and have 72 virgins waiting for them if they kill in the name of their God, and believe they will go to hell if they do not. Thankfully, this belief is false. If God is love, then why will he send someone to Hell? People in this world need to believe in something. They want to believe someone created the whole universe, thus the manmade creation of God. In an article published by Osho International foundation, Bhagwan Rajneesh states, “The Christians say God created the world, in fact, the hypothesis of God is needed for the creation. The world is there, someone must have created it, and whoever created it, that creator is God. But do you see the implication, if the world is created then there can be no evolution, evolution means creation continues. Think of the Christian story, God created the world in six days, and on the seventh day, he rested. Since then he’s been resting.......

God Give Me You

...For all the times I felt cheated, I complained You know how I love to complain For all the wrongs I repeated, though I was to blame I still cursed that rain I didn't have a prayer, didn't have a clue Then out of the blue God gave me you to show me what's real There's more to life than just how I feel And all that I'm worth is right before my eyes And all that I live for though I didn't know why Now I do, 'cause God gave me you For all the times I wore my self pity like a favorite shirt All wrapped up in that hurt For every glass I saw, I saw half empty Now it overflows like a river through my soul From every doubt I had, I'm finally free I truly believe God gave me you to show me what's real There's more to life than just how I feel And all that I'm worth is right before my eyes And all that I live for though I didn't know why Now I do, 'cause God gave me you In your arms I'm someone new With ever tender kiss from you Oh must confess I've been blessed God gave me you to show me what's real There's more to life than just how I feel And all that I'm worth is right before my eyes And all that I live for though I didn't know why (didn't know why) Now I do (I finally do), 'cause God gave me you (God gave me You) God gave me you...

The Power of Gods

...2016 The Odyssey: The Power of Gods The epic of Homer The Odyssey is about Odysseus and his 10 year struggle to return home Ithaca where his wife Penelope and his son Telemachus are struggling with the suitors who are waiting to take Penelope’s hand and Ithaca’s throne while they await for Odysseus return. However, Odysseus struggled to return Ithaca for the reason that Poseidon one of the gods that appear during the epic prevent him to return to his homeland. The theme that I considered interesting about the epic The Odyssey is the Power of Gods. Gods were considered ‘supreme’to humans. This was because humans plead to the Gods whenever they need to achieve something, and the gods decided to please or not to please humans according to human’s effort in obtain their help. Through the epic The Odyssey from Homer, in numerous occasions gods interact with humans for example, in Book II ,Athena one of the goddesses interact with Telemachus as Mentor and she advises him to embark in a journey to go to look for his father Odysseus “the journey you have your heart set on won’t be delayed. I myself, your father’s old comrade, will equip a fast ship and sail along with you” (II.309-311). It seems that the power of gods in this epic is a very important part of human’s life. In addition, another aspect of the relationship between the gods and humans is that since humans believe gods have all the power over them, humans often fear the gods and therefore they honor them or......

God Kaptan

...In the olden days, there lived in the heavens two gods, the Sky God Kaptan and the Sea Goddess Maguayan. Kaptan fell in love with Maguayan, and they were married. One day, Kaptan and Maguayan had a quarrel as many couples do after the honeymoon. In a fit of anger, Kaptan told his wife to go away. With a heavy heart, Maguayan left and hid in the Underworld in secret. When the goddess was gone, the god Kaptan felt very lonely. He knew that he had done his wife wrong; he had made an unjustifiably hasty decision, and this thought bothered him. However, it was too late for him to ask to be forgiven. He scoured the heavens, but his efforts were in vain; Maguayan was nowhere to be found. So, to while away his sorrows, the repentant god created the earth and planted bamboo in a garden called Kahilwayan. He also planted other plants like rice, corn, and sugarcane. Among these plants, the bamboo sprouted first. It grew to be a beautiful tree with pliant branches and feathery leaves dancing to the rhythmic wafting of the breeze. Beholding the splendor of his creation, the great Kaptan was filled with happiness. "Ah," he sighed, "were Maguayan here, she would enjoy this beautiful sight amid the sighs of the breeze and the rustle of the leaves!" The bamboo continued to grow. The garden became more beautiful each day. Then one late afternoon, while Kaptan was watching the bamboo leaves play in the breeze, a thought came to him, and, before he realized what it was all about, he was......

Is God Good ?

...meant in the bible by the phrase ‘God is good’. (25marks) Firstly, we must understand what is meant by ‘good’ well good is that which is morally right. With God it is said in the bible “oh give thanks to the lord, for he is good; for His loving-kindness is everlasting (Psalms), another way is the 10 commandments which shows God setting the standard of what is morally right and wrong. Another way of showing of how ‘God is good’ is by creation in genesis 1 and 2 which shows God either creating the world or how he is crafting everything, also in the bible of how God has preformed miracles and in todays society. In the bible there are many passages, which say ‘God is good’ for example in James ‘every good thing bestowed and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation, or shifting shadow’ this is clearly saying that God is the source of goodness. Another example is the goodness of God is a character trait, which applies to every other attribute. God’s wrath is good. God’s holiness is good. God’s righteousness is good. God is good in His entirety. There is nothing about God that is not good (Romans), this is basically saying that the goodness of God is a life-transforming truth and that we should use the words of God in are attitudes and actions. The Ten Commandments are the clear example of God setting the standards of what is morally right and wrong. We follow these laws that God has set because we believe......
