What is marketing? • Marketing is a system of business activities designed to plan, price, promote and distribute want-satisfying products, services and ideas to customers in order to achieve business objectives. • The process is customer-focused; it focuses on the needs and wants of customers, providing goods and services at the right price, place and time.

Marketing’s role in the firm • By continually researching customers and monitoring the business environment, marketing provides the information the business needs in order to change direction or adjust its tactics by providing new products or changing existing productions. • Marketing continues to become more competitive; many goods and services are similar, so business needs to understand its target market to stand out and better serve its customers.

Marketing’s role in society • Maximises customer satisfaction and improves quality of life. • Create jobs. • To operate in a socially responsible way. • Provide goods and services.

Types of markets

• Market – set of all actual and potential buyers of a product.

Resource market • Identified as being where the factors of production (land, labour, capital, enterprise) are sold or exchanged. • The resources are used by firms to produce goods and services, which are then sold to customers. • Land: all the natural resources that go into production of goods/ services (forests, mineral deposits, water). • Labour: all the human physical and mental talents used to make products. • Capital: tools, machinery, equipment and factories, as well as storage and transportation facilities. • Enterprise: initiates the combination of the other resources to produce a product, make business policy decisions and bear…...

...In these first two chapters of “Khrushchev’s Shoe” by Roy Underhill, I became more aware of why many organizations use a lot of hands on activities when trying to implement new experiences and information into their customers. For example, this past summer I went on vacation with my family to Branson, Missouri where we decided to visit the Titanic Museum. This museum had a lot of interactive activities that guests could participate in and to keep them entertained and fascinated about this tragic, yet historical event. Guests at the Titanic museum, upon boarding, were given a name and a story about an actual passenger on the ship and were given a guided tour by crew members that helped run the ship. Guests were also able to touch an iceberg, were challenged to see how long you could keep you hand in waters that were faced by Titanic passengers after it sunk, were able to steer and fuel the ship, and were also challenged to walk up platforms that showed how steep the ship got into the air before it broke off and sank to the bottom of the ocean. At the end of the tour, guests found out the fate of their character and were told the stories of the survivors. As you could imagine, it was a lot more fun and interesting when you were able to actually take part and have an experience where you felt like you were there when the Titanic sank. ...Mozart’s Sonata No. 11 in A-Major K. 331 Sarah Pool Salzburg College Dr. Oliver Kraft 01.12.2012 Mozart’s Sonata No. 11 in A-Major K. 331 Mozart wrote his eleventh sonata around the year 1778 while he was on a trip in Paris. Although the exact date is uncertain, he wrote a set of 4 sonatas in Paris, K. 300-333. However, they were not published until he was in Vienna in 1781. His travels around Europe during the 1770s were not the happiest of times because he was in his twenties and could no longer be considered a child prodigy. He wanted to write instrumental and secular works, but his jobs wanted sacred music (AQA Advanced Level Notes). This particular sonata has a beautiful first movement of variations, a minuet and trio for the second movement, and the “Rondo Alla Turca” third movement written in the Turkish style. When analyzing the first movement of this A-Major sonata, it is important to note that it does not follow the normal sonata form. A typical sonata would have an allegro as the first movement. Instead, this one has a variations movement with the tempo marked Andante Grazioso. It starts at a leisurely tempo, slower than a normal sonata would, but each variation gradually speeds up by bringing in smaller note values along with some contrasting variations in between. The first movement has a French character in 6/8 meter (Kinderman p.50). The French character was used because he wrote it while he was in Paris, and the 6/8 meter creates a pastoral......

The first theme has three phrases in it: measures one through ten, eleven through fifteen, and sixteen through twenty-one, all of which stay in the key of B flat major. Moving on to the second theme which is the key of F major, the dominant, we can see that the phrases are contrasting as well because they do not begin similarly and have different chord structure. These two tasks spark our brains and cause us to think differently and this begins a learning process that can transition child into many different lessons in life. I was fortunate enough to take my nephew who is five years old and teach him to tie his shoes. I gave my nephew a pair of his shoes and I told him he was going to be able to tie his own shoes when I was done teaching him to do so. I gave him his shoes, tied them for him and explained not only the importance of tying his shoes, but also how to do so. I showed him how to tighten the show for the bottom of the laces up, how to tie the first knot to keep the shoe tight, and also the last bunny ear knot the finish the job. After showing him a couple times how to tie his shoes, I asked him to tie them on his own. He was able to tighten the laces from bottom up, and even a couple times made it to the formation of the bunny ears, but for the most part he was unable to tie his own shoes. I again went back and showed him the steps of tying his shoes and took about fifteen minutes to do so. Again I asked him to tie his shoes and he was still unable. I then asked him where he was having trouble comprehending the tasks and he replied with “the bunny ears”.
