We all have to go through it. We all learn from it, and it will always be in our memory. Growing up. Some just want to pass it and move on, where others try to stay in the phase as long as possible. Some people grows up when they leave home, some kids by becoming 18 and others a third or fourth reason.
The short story The Death of Tommy Grimes is about the main character Tommy Grimes and him becoming a man. The Story is written by R.J. Meaddough in 1962. The most important person we here about otherwise is Tommy’s father Tom Grimes also called Pa. The title first let us believe that Tommy is going to die, literally. And when you read the first pages, it is about hunting what makes it more likely that he might die. But in the end he does not die, literally.
Tommy’s father is teaching him how to hunt and track down animals. And as the story composes Tommy develops a new side of himself, and becomes a man instead of a boy. Because of this change the main theme is growing up.
Tommy is a 12 years old boy who lives with his mom and dad in a house near Collierville. Collierville is in the South-eastern America. We are also in a modern time, because of the tone in the text. They use colloquial language for example the father says: Then you dead, boy”. In that sentence there is missing a subject, this makes it a colloquial language.
The story is written in 3th person with an invisible narrator. The point of view lies with Tommy and it is an all-knowing person. The story mostly takes place in the woods, in Tommy’s house and in the Hut. But the main act takes place in the woods where Tommy shoots an “animal”.
The story starts with Tommy laying in the woods and waiting. While he waits he thinks of a lot about his hunting experience, especially with his father. Therefor there are a lot of flashbacks in the text. He remembers a night…...

The Death of Tommy Grimes

...little girl swallowed by wolf yesterday a little girl called red ridding hood and her grandmother was eaten by a wolf. the horrible scene took place in the forest nearby near the village. Yesterday morning a little girl was walking to deliver some cake and vine to her sick grandmother. But on her way she was stopped by a wolf. “ first I was frightened but he seemed friendly, he asked me where I was going. When I said that I was going to my sick grandmothers house, he gave me the idea to pick up some flowers on my way, so I did” the girl tells. “The wolf attacked me by suprise” now when the little girl was distracted, the wolf went to the grandmothers house. The grandmother tells that she was lying in the bed when she heard the door being opened. “ I would never have expected to see the beast who came walking into my bedroom, I just thought it was my grandchild, he attacked me by surprise.” the wolf swallowed the old woman, and took on her close, then he waited for the girl in the grandmothers bed. Rescued by local lumperjack Some minutes later the girl arrived to her grandmothers house. She went to the bedroom with the cake and wine from her mother. When she saw the wolf wearing her grandmothers close she thought it was the sweet old woman she knew. “ she looked very strange, but I just thought it was because she was sick, when I later realized it was the wolf it was too late. The Death of Tommy Grimes Essay

...modern times. Tommy goes hunting in the woods, which is where the action starts. Later it moves on to the bar, where his father is telling his friends about, how brave his son was. In the beginning his father describes the forest particular, the beautiful colors, fresh stream etc. When Tommy is standing there, ready to kill, it is like everything is described in details, and I think it is because it is an important place in the text. The weather and environment reflects to the characters feelings. The sun is shining, when Tommy is waiting the woods, but when he is about to shoot the black man, the sun gets duller and there is a dead silence. I think it is probably because he is scared and nervous. In the end when they are all sitting in the bar, and Tommy is happy, because he is finally one of them, the Mississippi sunshine is mentioned Characters The first persons we are introduced to, is Tommy Grimes and his father Tom. Tommy is a white boy, and I think he is probably 12 years old “Soon they would be calling him Tim Grimes like his father (P.3, Line 6-7)”. It seems like Tommy has a beautiful point of view on life, but his father “brainwashes” him. He wants to grow up and become a real man, just like his father, so he can hang out with him and his friends at the bar. I do not think that he enjoys killing, but it is a duty. After he kills the black person, a part of him dies, like his father told him. He does not think it is that bad. Tommy’s father Tom Grimes is white......

...The movie is about a young guy Benjamin Braddock, who just graduated college. Now he doesn’t know what he wants to do next. He is feeling pressured by his parents, because they want him to continue studying, and he doesn’t want to continue school. He is seduced by one of his parent’s friends Mrs. Robinson an older lady. He is very hesitant and resist it, but then suddenly starts an affair with her, and things get a little messed up when he falls in love with her daughter Elaine. I really liked the acting, Dustin Hoffmann, is an excellent actor. He did a really good job portraying his character. I also really liked Benjamin Braddock’s character, a very polite, well-mannered, behaved young guy who is confused about life. The acting was really great; all the actors really did a good job portraying their character, even the small roles. Also I really liked the soundtrack of the movie, the music in background really matched the movies and the story. It gave the movie nice feeling, as if you were there yourself. I really like how the movie was surrounded in a rich environment. Because we know that college in America is extremely expensive, and people save up all their life just to attend college, when rich people they easily can. It somehow shows that school isn’t the answer to a good life and money can’t buy happiness. This is an older movie from the 60’s so the film quality isn’t the best, but the camerawork is very good. I didn’t like the story; I was expecting......

The Death of Tommy Grimes

...Tommy Grimes: Tommy is a 12 year old boy, who lives somewhere in the U.S.A with both his parents (probably in Mississippi, line 8 page 45). The whole story is taking place in a time before the civil war (before 1861). Hunting plays a vital role in the community Tommy lives in. Despite his father, “the boys” and the rest of the society, Tommy doesn’t like killing. (I can tell from line 6-15 on page 39). Tommy’s father is aware of that (as seen on line 19-20 page 39) and obviously he gets a little embarrassed when the other men bragged about their boys being good hunters (seen on line 26-28 page 40). Tommy realizes that, and in order to fit in, and be a part of the community (consisting of his father, “the boys” and all the other hunters in the village) he needs to accept the fact “that some varmints do damage and just plain got to be killed”. Tommy wants to make his father proud, so he eagerly starts practicing shooting with the rifle. After a while, Tommy is ready to see if he is able to make his first kill. He goes out buck hunting with his father. He managed to kill a runaway-slave with a shot that pierced right through the heart of the slave. – This is even better than killing a predator, and the above-mentioned situation results, that Tommy finally gets accepted as a man. Even though Tommy wasn’t quite happy about killing the slave, he is overwhelmed with pride....

The Death of Tommy Grimes

...katedralskole B The Death of Tommy Grimes The text “The Death of Tommy Grimes” is about the eleven-twelve year old boy Tommy and his father. The story starts of in medias res where we hear about Tommy later in the story, and we get no introduction here. We get the introduction few sentences later in a flashback, where we hear about Tommy’s father trying to instruct Tommy in his shooting skill, but at this moment Tommy just can not pull the trigger. Tommy starts practicing his increasing shooting ability while his father teaches him about hunting, and how the nature cycle, in a metaphorical way, works on earth. In the end of the story, Tommy and his father go hunting, and Tommy ends up shooting a black man – something which makes his father awfully proud, and in the very end he boasts about it in the local bar saying the words, “my boy became a man today” The character Tommy is the protagonist in the story, and he lives in a small village with his father and the other inhabitants. From the descriptions in the text, it sounds like the environment Tommy lives in is very stuffy without any significant contact to the outside world. This is also why Tommy’s father has an enormous influence on him, including the fact that he probably does not know anything else, than what his father tells him. This draw the conclusion, that Tommy is completely dependent on his father, because he is the only source to knowledge about the world. During the action of the story, Tommy goes through a......

Tommy O'Connell

...Tommy O’Connell, Audit Senior An audit senior and staff accountant have some similar and different roles when it comes to an audit. The staff accountant does most of the “leg work” in an audit such as gathering invoices and compiling everything needed for an audit. An audit senior is one that will review the compiled documents and ensure that the work done by the staff accountant is done properly. The two have a similarity, though, were they both have to audit specific things such as accounts during the audit. However, the audit senior is typically assigned the more difficult accounts as they are known to be more competent and able to review the accounts better. In my opinion, I believe that the staff accountant role is more important because they are reliable for getting the bulk of the work done during the early stages of the audit. If these are not done timely and effectively, then the firm is likely to go over budget on their audits and would not be able to take on many clients. On the other hand, the audit senior position is more stressful because they are the ones who have to double check the work of the staff accountants and still do audit work such as auditing complex accounts. If I was Tommy, I would bring it up casually to the person who just told me that Carl would be assigned with me on the audit that I have heard that he is likely not a good fit for this type of audit because there are many complex......

...Tommy Douglas was born on October 20, 1904. He was born in Falkirk, Scotland. He died when he was 82 on February 24, 1986. Tommy Douglas is responsible for many of the great benefits we have today. He introduced paved roads, sewage systems and power to most farmers. He somehow managed to reduce the provincial debt by $20 million. He later introduced Saskatchewan residents to car insurance and labour improvement. He is most famous for his long-standing dream of universal Medicare. He supported many and provided hope for the people of Saskatchewan. He won the respect of millions of Canadians due to his excellent debating and speaking skills. It was only after his death when he was voted "The Greatest Canadian" in a national CBC Television contest by his advocate George Stromboulopoulos. The Douglas family emigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1910. The family then returned to Glasgow, Scotland, during World War I, but came back to settle in Winnipeg in 1919. He was the child of Scottish immigrants. As a youth, Tommy experienced a bone infection in his leg. The doctors recommended he had his leg amputated. His parents had no money for a specialist. This happened not long before a specialist offered to perform a surgery on his leg, as long as his students were able to witness it. This surgery saved his life, and was his inspiration for universally accessible medical care. As a child Tommy Douglas' behavior and characteristics revealed the personality traits that he would be......
