...The aim of this assignment is to reflect on how the team presentation went, what the advantages and disadvantages were and how they were overcome. Also to look and compare different organisation techniques to the Greenwich Market and a fast-food restaurant and see what changes or suggestions could be made to the next academic year. Theorist’s Positive Teachings According to Gustafson and Kleiner (1994) “High performance teams work in organisations where staffs are just as responsible as managers for the performance of the team.” Belbin’s team role theory states: “A team role is “a tendency to behave, contribute and interrelate with others in a particular way.” Looking at these theories, it clearly states that working within a team, helps get the job done easier and quicker and you will be able to see different skills from the team members as you go along in the group exercise. To see the progress of the team, Belbin organised different team roles to describe the pattern of behaviour that characterises one person’s behaviour in relationship to another in facilitating the progress of a team. These are comprised of: * Action – oriented roles: Shaper, Implementer and Completer-Finisher * People – oriented roles: Coordinator, Team Worker and Resource Investigator * Cerebral – oriented roles: Plant, Monitor Evaluator and Specialist During the tutorial, we were asked to sort these behavioural patterns into the likeliness of our team mates. These are what we came......

Reilly and Keith C. Brown, “Analysis of Investments and Management of Portfolio,” 9th edition, (South-Western, 2009) Chapter 5 Question 2 Question 10 Question 13 Question 15 2 The answers to the assignment questions In the text, the return due to exchange-rate changes (RX) is shown to be equal to fxt/fxt-1 - 1, where fxt is the foreign exchange rate at time t expressed in terms of the investor's home currency per unit of foreign currency. Let fxt be the exchange rate expressed in terms of dollars and fx*t be the exchange rate expressed in terms of pounds. These two rates are simply reciprocals, i.e., fx*t = 1/fxt. So from the table in the problem we have: Period (1 + RX) (1 + R*X) 3 1 2 3 4 5 (for US investor) 2.5/3 = 0.833 2.5/2.5 = 1.000 2/2.5 = 0.800 1.5/2 = 0.750 2.5/1.5 = 1.667 (for UK investor) 3/2.5 = 1.200 2.5/2.5 = 1.000 2.5/2 = 1.250 2/1.5 = 1.333 1.5/2.5 = 0.600 The total return to a U.S. investor from a U.K. investment is (1 + RX)(1 + RUK)  1; the total return to a U.K. investor from a U.S. investment is(1 + R*X)(1 + RUS)  1. So: Return to U.S. Investor From U.S. Investment From U.K. Investment 10% 15% 5% 12% 6% 7.6% Return to U.K. Investor 4 Period 1 2 3 4 5 Average (0.833)(1.05) (1)(0.95) (0.8)(1.15) (0.75)(1.08) (1.667)(1.1) ...

...very biased. I believed that writers had to follow a certain format and stick to the textbook rules in order to succeed as a creative writer. This notion of mine was completely shattered, and for the good, once I was introduced to the fact that a creative writer is in essence not bound by any rules. Don’t get me wrong, there are certain rules, but these rules are nowhere nearly as strict as the rules I experienced during my stint with formal literary writing. More than the rules, I uncovered several tools that would aid my writing process in the future. Experimenting with the five elements of creative writing - Image, Voice, Character, Setting and Story provided me with a firm fundamental understanding as to how I should begin crafting my portfolio. It was very interesting to discover how each of these elements worked independently as well as coherently within each of the four genres to provide a well rounded work of literature. Among the four genres, I was most comfortable with writing the Drama. Integrating all the necessary elements of creative writing into the drama came naturally to me as I could visualize the drama actually taking place on stage. The fact that all of my characters’ thoughts had to be externalized as opposed to fiction where I could go into my characters’ thoughts and not worry about the reader’s reaction proved to be an exciting challenge. Observing Love is Bl(ow)ind one can notice the use of this technique in the opening scene where Raf is in the bathroom......

Importance of a Teaching Portfolio (Gcu)

...Professional Portfolio: The Importance of a Professional Portfolio to Teachers Polly Anne Bell Grand Canyon University: SPE-529N August 13, 2014 Professional Portfolio: The Importance of a Professional Portfolio to Teachers A professional portfolio is a valuable tool for use by teachers as a reflective instrument to plan and chart professional growth. It is an equally valuable tool for teachers as they engage in job searching (Campbell, Melenyzer, Nettles & Wynan, 2014). A well developed portfolio can help present the teacher as being professional, organized, and a serious member of the teaching profession (Hom, 1997). A Personal Growth Tool When used for personal growth, the portfolio can provide the teacher with a schematic design for structuring, implementing, and advancing professional development. It can help her to link her professional goals to requirements of school districts, state and national standards (Hom, 1997). Additionally, by capturing her experiences in the portfolio, the teacher is better-able to self-evaluate her academic growth, professional development and teaching experiences (Hom, 1997). An Interview Tool A professional portfolio is also valuable in ensuring a smoother and less stressed interview (Campbell et al., 2014). With the portfolio in hand, the teacher is readily able to refer to talking points. When the interviewer poses questions about the teacher’s knowledge, experiences, or how she approaches teaching a certain concept,...

...Although there are many things that characterize me as a new teacher, my teaching philosophy is based on a fundamentally optimistic view. I’m currently volunteering at the African Center. I teach basics English to refugees. I believe that all of my students, with the help of the right tools, will be able to overcome any difficulties that the study of a foreign language might present. I don't mean that every student who enters my class will be able to express him or herself equally simply as a result of how I present the lesson, but rather that each of my students will be guaranteed the opportunity to express him or herself to the best of his or her abilities. I believe that one of my best qualities as a new teacher is my ability to inspire confidence in my students so that they feel comfortable expressing themselves regardless of their level of ability. In my language classes, students are required to speak in English at all times: this is not always easy for those who are having their first encounter with this method of foreign language instruction. The first step, then, is to put the student at ease in such a way that even the most timid student is able to make the most of his or her time in the classroom. In my teaching evaluations, many students refer to the type of atmosphere that a language class should have, and to how the learning environment in my classroom allowed them to express themselves: "He created such an amazing class environment; no one was ever afraid......

...Luke Martino Writing 102 12/9/15 Writing 102 Portfolio Throughout this semester of Writing 102, I have been assigned to write four essays that have stressed the course competencies of subject matter knowledge, writing process knowledge, rhetorical knowledge, genre knowledge, discourse community knowledge, and meta-cognition. Through the process of drafting, editing, and revising three out of the four papers, I think I have been effectively able to absorb three of those course competencies; subject matter knowledge, rhetorical knowledge, and writing process knowledge. The first paper I was assigned to write for Writing 102 was a literacy narrative. For this paper, I was told to write about a past experience that helped influence my current writing and reading qualities. The core competencies that were involved in this essay were writing process knowledge and subject matter knowledge. I used writing process knowledge when I was told to generate ideas for my essay. I began by thinking of five possible ideas and from there I created a brainstorming web out of the two topics I thought would be the most interesting. Shortly after starting, I realized I could only build an effective brainstorming web from one idea. I decided to use the first time I forgot my lines in a play as my main idea for the essay. After I completed the brainstorming web and finished taking notes on what I remembered from the incident I started to follow the writing process that consisted of......

...place for teachers of faith in public schools. According to the author, teaching is not just a skill or a day of rigid routines. However, it is about knowledge and developing the child as a whole. Teachers help children learn their place in the world and how to interact in social environments. They have high expectations for their students because they know that Christ created them. Faith influences a teacher’s character; therefore, the teachers show love, joy, and integrity in their work. In this article the author gives a few accounts of teachers that were called to serve in different geographical locations and in different situations. In each situation they served their students with joy and love, furthermore, sharing their faith through actions. I agree with the author’s stance on respecting the legal and ethical boundaries when it comes to religion and public schools. There are many different cultures and beliefs in our schools. Therefore, families trust that teachers will not teach or thrust a set of beliefs they deem as the correct beliefs on their children (Eckert, 2014, p. 21). There are many ways I can show the Gospel of Christ’s love through myself without ever having to argue or preach to someone. One way is to practice godly character by being, honest, sincere, and remaining humble. Another way to show Christ’s love is through actions of love, grace, and joy. When God called me into teaching he gave me a passion and desire to spend my life doing this type of......

...question that was asked of me repeatedly was, “Why did you choose to do this course?” Personally, I found this question quite difficult to answer. I remember walking into the first lecture 20 minutes late, introducing myself and answering this question by saying, “I chose this course to learn about leadership skills.” It was not until the end of that first lecture that I realised how this course was unique and how it was much more than building leadership skills. The course was about cross disciplinary learning, influences of culture on leadership, developing a personal view on leadership and topics that would have never crossed my mind otherwise. I walked out of that lecture telling my friend that this is one course that utilizes a unique teaching style and one that I would get up at 9 AM on a Friday morning to attend. Prior to this course the only theoretical knowledge of leadership that I had was through a Business and Management course where I learnt about leadership styles. Geoff Mortimore pointed out the different leadership styles in the first panel. I was always under the impression that a leader chooses one leadership style in his position. Geoff that day made a strong point in that it is essential that a leader possesses qualities of each leadership style and not just one. This point created an image in my mind which I have tried to depict below: Visionary Guide people to same vision Coaching Pacesetting Setting challenging goals, motivation Help identify......
