Tabatha’s Salon Takeover

Tabatha’s Salon Takeover is a reality show in which Sear Genius contestant and hair salon owner, Tabatha Coffey helps failing salons turn around in one week. In class we viewed the hair salon “Ten”, which was a perfect example of a failing salon. Management is what drives a business, is the act of controlling and making decisions about a business. Without a good manager every business will go down eventually.
Ten was founded by a woman. She was the manager of her own business and she set an autocratic leadership style where her employees have to obey her instructions without questioning and without receiving and explanation for such instructions. She micromanages the salon. She has many books where she explains how does she wants things, the employees are supposes to memorize and follow the protocols she set. This book includes scripts on what they should say when a customer come and rules on how to do every task. She lacks communication by relying heavily on her employees to learn.
Ten is an informal business, where responsibilities are not well distributed. There are a lot of responsibilities for the managers and the owners and also the secretaries. There seems to be flexibility in how they run the salon, because they have a hairdresser who works there but actually cants work on the floor because he has not been approved yet.
The Salon also needs to improve their leadership department, because the manager does not accomplish many of the qualities the business need. As we can see in the video, she does not have confidence in herself and tend to reflect it in her business, she is insecure about what she is doing and those are attitudes that a good leader does not have; a good leader should be confident in them and what are they doing in their business. When Tabatha criticizes her business she pretends to know everything Tabatha is…...

Hostile Takeover

...NO. 6 • DEC. 2000 Hostility in Takeovers: In the Eyes of the Beholder? G. WILLIAM SCHWERT* ABSTRACT This paper examines whether hostile takeovers can be distinguished from friendly takeovers, empirically, based on accounting and stock performance data. Much has been made of this distinction in both the popular and the academic literature, where gains from hostile takeovers result from replacing incumbent managers and gains from friendly takeovers result from strategic synergies. Alternatively, hostility could ref lect strategic choices made by the bidder or the target. Empirical tests show that most deals described as hostile in the press are not distinguishable from friendly deals in economic terms, except that hostile transactions involve publicity as part of the bargaining process. THE PERCEPTION OF HOSTILITY in American takeovers has had important connotations in both the popular and the academic literature. Unwelcome bids are often perceived to threaten at least some of the stakeholders in target corporations, leading to extensive defensive reactions by the management of the target firm. In contrast, friendly takeovers are often seen to create synergies that make both the bidder and the target firm better off ~see, for example, Mørck, Shleifer, and Vishny ~1988, 1989!!. The distinction between hostile and friendly takeovers is also important if removing an inefficient target management team creates the gains from hostile takeovers. Manne ~1965! refers to this as......

Salon and Spa

...after its profitability and its ability to satisfy the needs and wants of the customers. Business is defined as an activity which involves exchange of goods or services for the benefit of both the owner and the customer. In our own perspective, we think of a business that will establish a new trend of Beauty Salon. A Beauty Salon combined with a massage spa open for 24 hours. The beauty salon is where a woman goes to have their hair and nails done. Through this study, we want to change every woman’s concept about beauty salon. Our beauty salon is not merely about transformation, we can also offer new relaxing services. Beauty and make up are like the wheels of a cart or the two sides of a coin. Women are naturally beautiful in themselves, but a little make-up does help a lot in removing the stress mark. Speaking of stress mark, we decided to improve the ways on how we remove our customers’ strains through offering different massage services. Every woman and man wants to be presentable regardless of their age, so the beauty salon is the place to go. Beauty salon and spa is also like a temple; however, the difference is that we go to worship in the temple while in the salon or spa; we go to be served and worshipped by therapists and beauticians....

...------------------------------------------------- Beauty salon From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia A beauty salon or beauty parlor (beauty parlour) (or sometimes beauty shop) is an establishment dealing with cosmetic treatments for men and women.[1] Other variations of this type of business include hair salons and spas. There is a distinction between a beauty salon and ahair salon and although many small businesses do offer both sets of treatments; beauty salons provide more generalized services related to skin health, facial aesthetic, foot care, aromatherapy, — even meditation, oxygen therapy, mud baths, and many other services. ------------------------------------------------- Beauty treatments[edit] Massage for the body is a popular beauty treatment, with various techniques offering benefits to the skin (including the application of beauty products) and for increasing mental well-being. Hair removal is offered at some beauty salons through treatments such aswaxing and threading. Some beauty salons style hair instead of going to a separate hair salon, and some also offer sun tanning. Other treatments of the face are known as facials. Specialized beauty salons known as nail salons offer treatments such asmanicures and pedicures for the nails. A manicure is a treatment for the hands, incorporating the fingernails and cuticles and often involving the application of nail polish, while a pedicure involves treatment of the feet, incorporating the toenails and the......

The Apple Takeover

...The Apple Takeover Devry University ENGL 112 Professor Jonathan Tosch People spend hundreds of dollars on iPhones every year; they all seem to have the same features and capabilities, but the size and color of the phone. I’ve watched consumers stand in long lines for the latest iPhone, people stay up all night trying to purchase them online, only to do it all again when the newest iPhone is released. I for one refuse to pay that much for any type of phone, but the craze really caught my eye and I wanted to research what all of the hype is about the iPhone takeover. Being a parent my teenage daughter is always saying she is team iPhone and argues with her friends about her iPhone being better than an android device, so I decided to take a trip to the Apple to get some background knowledge and to play with the device. At this point I’m sure everyone wishes they were Steve Jobs and could invent such a popular device. The iPhone has already re-formulated itself five times. It started out as a big black phone with few accessories and cases now it is a small square with many accessories and features. But once they changes from the iPhone 4 to the 4S now the iPhone 5 I don’t see any major differences in the phone, but yet consumers are still purchasing them with the few changes that are being made. The iPhone by Apple is advancement to the mobile communicator. The iPhone combines a cell phone, with tablet capabilities with features such as email, internet and......

Takeover Defenses

...DQ # 4 Takeover refers to a situation where a company seeks to acquire another to expand product breadth, geographic or customer base or it might want to expand and diversify into related or unrelated product markets, pursue undervalued resources, or manipulate financial indicators, including risk profiles, performance variability, and financial leverage (Pearce & Robinson, 2004).On the other hand, hostile take-over involves an outside entity, making a tender offer to shareholders of a target firm and as suggested by Pearce & Robinson (2004), it involves directly approaching the company’s shareholders ignoring the executives and the board of directors. However, there are appropriate takeover defences that can be utilised to safeguard any hostile takeover and these could be discussed below: Firstly, poison pill is a defense strategy in which the target company offers its stockholders preferred stock in the merged firm at a highly attractive rate of exchange as a mandatory consequence of a successful takeover (Pearce & Robinson, 2004).. The reason behind this is to dilute the stock such that the attacking firm loses money on its investment. Example research conducted by J.P. Morgan offers evidence that poison pills benefit target firm stockholders. Secondly, to prevent unwelcome corporate suitors from acquiring enough stock to take control of the corporation, flip-in poison pills can be used and with flip-in......
