...SWOT Analysis: Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats | | |Main Section |Contributed by Val Renault | | |Edited by Jerry Schultz | What is a SWOT analysis and why should you use one? When do you use SWOT? What are the elements of a SWOT analysis? How do you create a SWOT analysis? How do you use your SWOT analysis?   Opposition is an inevitable part of change and one that can significantly impact your community organizing. However, if you know how to take stock of the opposition inside and outside of your effort or group, you are more likely to plan and act effectively. That's where SWOT analysis comes in. SWOT can help you handle both ordinary and unusual situations in your community health or development initiative, by giving you a tool to explore both internal and external factors that may influence your work.   What is a SWOT analysis and why should you use one? The name says it: Strength, Weakness, Opportunity, Threat. Funding a Nyc Book Store

...Funding a NYC Book Festival Shane Freer Martha Austin COMM 215 February 24, 2013 Elizabeth Hoyle “New York City is the most populated city in the U.S. with well over double the population of the country’s second largest city, Los Angeles” (www.nycedc.com). With a city this large, over 8 million people, there is no wonder that their public schools have a bad reputation. If children had the possibility to read more books in school or in the comfort of their own home than the high school graduation could rise higher than 65.5% in 2011 (Goldman, 2012). Due to the current economic setbacks, it makes it hard for schools, libraries, and families alike to be able to set money aside to purchase new books for children of all ages. Cities, big and small, across the U.S. are always in need of books for their children; nonprofit book festivals always tend to help bring communities together for the hope that it will make a brighter future for New York City and its people that it touches. The key to any successful nonprofit book drive are an abundance of sponsors to help secure funding for a venue, advertising, book donations, and even a possible celebrity appearance to help with national attention. When it comes to a local book festival in New York City it is a good idea to try to get businesses either that are located within the city, or who operate throughout the city involved to help raise the pride of the residents. This tactic will help get other local businesses and......

Swot Analysis in Drug Store Industry

...SWOT Analysis in Drug Store Industry Treasure Womack PHL/ 320 July 13, 2015 Howard Kersey SWOT Analysis in Drug Store Industry The drugs store industry has several capabilities. Most consumers have at least the occasional need to shop at a retail drug store. The retail drug store industry consists of neighborhood pharmacies, large drug store chains and supermarkets or general retailers with drug store departments. Competition within the industry is strong as retailers adapt to changing trends in the market and seek to retain customers. Drug stores face several critical issues. Low margins on prescription drugs may push drug stores to expand front store merchandise sales where they compete with discount stores or into related businesses such as Pharmacy Benefit Management. The problem also arises in regulatory pressure to contain drug store prices. The continuing rise in prescription drugs costs has encouraged proposals to control drug prices either through legislation or the formation of large public buyer groups that can negotiate lower prices with drug suppliers. Controls in drug store prices have cut drug store margins. The increase in the number of widely used drugs moving from prescription to over-the-counter (OTC) status proved to be another problematic area for the drug store industry. In the U.S., 106 ingredients in more than 700 widely used medicines have moved from prescription to OTC in the past 30 years; this has completely changed the pharmacy role in......

National Book Store: a Category in Itself

...National Book Store: A Category in itself National Book Store is the largest book and supplies retail chain in the Philippines. As a student, it is also the retail chain that I am most dependent on. It is the place where I get all my essentials from school to recreational materials. NBS has numerous branches scattered all over the archipelago. I do most of my purchases at the Glorietta 5 branch. This is where I gained my personal perception and knowledge about the chain. Through the hard work and powerful leadership of Socorro Cancio-Ramos and the late Jose Ramos with their family, the company has evolved from its humble beginnings into the biggest and strongest bookstore chain in the Philippines. The first National Book Store started as a stall shop in Escolta before the Japanese occupation selling supplies, GI novels, and textbooks. When war broke out, strict book censorship forced them to shift their trade to soap, candies, and slippers. They bought their merchandise from wholesalers and peddled them to smaller retailers. They went back to business using their door as a counter for selling textbooks, notebooks, pad paper, and pencils. Business went very well because, during that time, there were only a few stores that sold school supplies and books. National Book Store's opening was strategically timed to welcome the first postwar school year. In the 1940's, Typhoon Gene destroyed their store and soaked all the merchandise. After the tragic event, they slept for......
