In the role of Regional Director of Operations (RDO) for Starbucks Canada, Linda has a wide scope of responsibilities which include setting clear expectations for 8 direct reports (district managers), ensuring execution of operational standards for 87 store locations with an approximate annual sales revenue of $95 million, and achieving business goals for growth all while aligning with the company policies and mission statement. Starbucks Coffee Canada is an iconic brand that provides high quality food and hand-crafted beverages to the masses. Linda has the job of ensuring all of the primary and secondary stakeholders are satisfied. As a publically traded company the primary stakeholders are the company shareholders. As Linda affects the shareholders most by directly impacting the secondary stakeholders of the customer, partner (employee), and public; she must first focus on making things happen.
By preparing yearly budgets and anticipating turnover at the DM level, she must plan for the amount of time needed to hire and train suitable candidates. These plans, help Linda to be agile in a highly competitive and constantly changing industry. One difficult component of her job is to ensure that her department has the right people, doing the most important work at the right time. With many competing priorities in this complex environment she has to be able to attract and retain talent while managing the various expectations of both the primary and secondary stakeholders.
Linda is also responsible for meeting the competition. She must ensure store partners are focused on current company strategies to stay ahead of industry trends. As the coffee industry grows so does the need for Linda to ensure that current promotions, customer service expectations and overall store operations are held at the utmost standard.
