Below is an example image of what a home network or small office network may look. As can be seen below, this network is setup to enable all computers and other network devices with network abilities, such as the TiVo, to communicate with each other, as well as share the single Internet connection.

Network topologies and types of networks
A network can be setup in dozens of different ways known as network topologies. Common configurations include the bus topology, mesh topology, ring topology, star topology, tree topology and hybrid topology. Most home users have a home network with a tree topology that is connected to the Internet. Many corporate networks also use the tree topology setup but have many more star networks and may have an Intranet for employees only.

Networking System
They follow RING and BUS Topology as their internal networking. A ring network is a network topology in which each node connects to exactly two other nodes, forming a single continuous pathway for signals through each node - a ring. Data travel from node to node, with each node along the way handling every packet. Alternatively referred to as a line topology, a bus topology is a network setup in which each computer and network device are connected to a single cable or backbone.

Tv Violence

...Abbey Ludwick Professor Guy Communications 1 1 December 2011 Media Violence: Television shows are part of the American culture. Unlike early times when a TV could only be afforded by the upper class and were seldomly tuned into, Americans today use TV as a main source of entertainment. The age group of people who watch TV encompasses all ends of the spectrum. TV programming exists for just about any age and genre. Television can be a powerful influence in developing a person’s value system and shaping their behavior. Unfortunately, much of today’s television programming is violent. The reliance on violence as an entertainment stimulant cheapens children’s views of human interaction, leads to aggressive behavior and fosters the acceptance of violence in our society. A young child who watches violent shows is unable to differentiate between fact and fiction. As a result they are inclined to imitate the acts they witness on TV and view them as acceptable means of behavior. Violence is a prevalent theme seen on children’s TV shows and this exposure starts at an early age. As former FCC commissioner Nicholas Johnson said in 1971, “All television is educational television. The only question is, what is it teaching?” (Johnson) If children are being exposed daily settings of TV at the age of one and what’s being depicted is violent then that child is beginning to understand the nature of violence at an early age. At such an early age, toddlers are not able to......

Reality Tv

...Grierson referred to the documentary as a text that has ‘documentary value’(Grierson, 1926). Using this definition as a starting point, discuss whether ‘reality’ TV should be classified as a documentary. “We take television for granted in the same way as we take everyday life for granted.” (Silverstone, 2000) Reality television, being a mix of the two, is often an over-looked and disrespected television genre, as it can seem worthless and therefore worthy of the term ‘trash TV’. However it appears that reality television has started to take over our screens and is pushing other, more reputable genres out of the schedule. John Grierson is said to be the man who first coined the phrase ‘documentary’ and therefore documentarians often look back to his quotes and theories to be used as the bible for accepting or rejecting television shows into the genre. Grierson used the quote when he was evaluating Robert Flaherty’s film Moana. Flaherty, producer of Nanook of the North, used actors to portray the characters in the documentary rather than the people themselves, which conflicted with Grierson’s principles, arguing that using the real person in their original environment, “thus taken from the raw” are far better than a fictional alternative. However vague Grierson’s quote may seem, it is clear what he intended by it. The word ‘documentary’ comes from the Latin root ‘docere’, meaning to teach or instruct, however the more modern relation is to ‘document’, which is a factual......

The Tv

...The TV Those endless days, the same routines, the same people, the same complications at work, nothing new is meeting you. Life has become a routine, and suddenly you see no point with it. You stay home one day, watching some television, and discover that life is just in front of you. You see the same person over and over again in different TV-shows, and realise it could be you. Maybe life isn’t so bad and routine marked after all. The story The TV is written by Ben Loory and published in the newspaper The New Yorker in April 2010. The story is about a man that stays home from work one day, because he is sick, and like most of us would do when we are sick, he lays on the couch all day and watches television. When suddenly he finds a show he wants to watch, and he wonders. The main character seems so familiar, and the show is so long. Afterwards he takes a shower, and realises, the show was about him, he was the main character. The story starts in medias res, which is a common characteristic for short stories. An omniscient third-person narrator tells the story. “In the morning, the man awakens confused… He feels as if he were forgetting something..” P. 2, l 47, the narrator knows how our main character thinks and feels, which works really well because, the main character has so many different thoughts and feelings about seeing him self in the television, so it makes it easier to understand the story. The name on our main character is not stated, and somehow it......

The Tv

...The TV By Ben Loory “The TV” is a short story written by Ben Loory, and his story was published in the April 12, 2010. First I will look at the course of events in this story. The story “The TV” is about a man, who stays home one day suddenly from his work. On this day he discovers that there is a special TV channel about himself or his life - but it could be his other self he had. After that the man becomes very engrossed with the TV show. In time he saw reflections of himself of the man's world in the TV show. At one point, he discovers that he chews on his lips on TV, so he starts trying to stop chewing her lips in his really life - not in the TV show, causing his other self to stop chewing his lips. And yet, his other self is different, better. He reads intellectual books, asks his boss for a raise, hosts corporate meetings and his “real self” begins to feel jealous. The author also used religious words in this story, such as the word "God," when he says: "My God.” This could symbolizes that he thinks that he is his God, because he is different, but there are still some who are like him, but maybe he has not felt. If we are looking at the author, he use third-person narrator, because he called the man for “the man.” Authors of novels and composers of papers use “he,” “she,” or “it” when referring to a person, place, thing, or idea. The reader gets not a name for the man in the story, but only one fact of the man, and it is that he has the name “the man”. The......

Reality Tv

...Mariah Priester The Reality TV Phenomenon Many of us spend countless hours a week enjoying the shows that come on t.v. Years ago, television shows focused on the family, the strong bonds they shared, and building strong family ties. Shows like “The Brady Bunch”, “The Cosby Show” “Full House” and “Family Matters” were shows that could be enjoyed by the entire family. Today, television has taken on a new role, and it’s called “Reality T.V.” Reality TV are shows that observe real-life situations. They are t.v. programs that present real people in live, though often deliberately manufactured, situations and monitor their emotions and behavior. The industry now filled with unscripted dramas, makeover sagas, celebrity breakdowns, lifestyle-change shows, dating shows, talent searches and just about any kind of competition you can think of (and a few that you probably can't). In the fall 2007 season, there were more than a dozen reality shows in prime-time slots on major networks and cable channels. On any given night, you can watch "The Biggest Loser," "Dancing with the Stars," "The Real World," "I Love New York," "Beauty and the Geek," "America's Next Top Model," "Ultimate Fighter," "The Bachelor," "Run's House" or "Project Runway" -- to name just a few. Reality TV was created as an alternative to normal programs, and to boost channel ratings. Many shows were being cancelled due to low viewership. It has been since The Real World and Road Rules premiered on MTV......

4k Tv vs 3d Tv

...Affirmative Agreement: 4K TV will be no more successful than 3D TV. According to Barry Sandrew, who is an internationally recognized visual effect pioneer and digital imaging expert, “To the average consumer looking to purchase a big screen TV, 3D is unavoidable.” Today it is difficult to purchase a big, flat screen TV from a reputable manufacturer that is not 3D ready, even if the soncumerdid not purchase the set specifically for that feature. Despite what you might read in the media says that 3D ‘s popularization was limited by lacking of content, there are plenty of 3D Blue-rays for sale today of all genres. Also, for instance, Comcast HD subscribers with a current set-top box can find dozens of recent 3D releases available for rental, including “Captain American”, ”Hugo”, as well as a few channels that provide 24/7 3D content, including ESPN 3D. Moreover, Netflix is starting to grow its 3D catalog slowly. In fact, a lack of content is no longer an excuse. However, for 4K, the cost of producing 4K content is a huge amount of investment for Networks and advertisers. If 4K TV wants to gain its popularity, the 4K content would need to be available everywhere. The problem remains, however, that it will take a rather larger investment by the networks, as well as advertisers, to be able to distribute and produce 4K content. As previously mentioned, a large portion of networks and advertisers have yet to adapt to HD which was introduced back in 2009. (franis, K.) Cost......

Television has a very important part of our lives as humans. It how we get our latest new, deals, entertainment even communication. But how does the television impact our personal finance? Without the television there would not be any TV ads and what do TV ads do try and get customer to buy new products. Industries spend millions, even billions of dollars to win our hearts and minds, and to influence our choices towards their products and ideas. According to the A.C. Nielsen Co., the average American watches more than 4 hours of TV each day (or 28 hours/week, or 2 months of nonstop TV-watching per year). In a 65-year life, that person will have spent 9 years glued to the tube. The number of TV commercials seen by the by age 65 is 2 million. (Norman Herp) But why are commercial ads use and are important? One reason they give us as costumer’s information we may not know on product we want to buy. Like when Toyota is having a new car deal or when Macys is having a one day sale. How the new IPhone is 5g and the day it comes out. All the television commercials give us information on item we think we may need or have an interest in. But the way some of the television ads are advertised can have a negative way of influencing our decision making. The media......

Google Tv

...Google TV could be a telco’s best friend in the battle for the multiscreen market, says Rob Gallagher 04 February 2011 Rob Gallagher Telecoms operators once thought they would rule the world. They foresaw a future where people would communicate, access the Internet and watch TV via their mobile phones, PCs and a number of as-yet-unimagined screens. And thanks to their brands, customer relationships and control of the wired- and wireless-broadband networks that would carry the new services, telecoms operators would be best-positioned to profit. It didn’t quite work out like that. But not for the operators’ lack of trying. Throughout the course of the last decade, many sought to expand the control they have over their networks to almost every element of the new-media industry, from content and delivery platforms to devices and embedded software. Unfortunately, the operators overestimated their ability to control these other parts of the value chain, most strikingly in the mobile phone market. Consumers shunned the operators’ mobile portals when they found they could access their favorite PC-based Internet services “over the top” (OTT) of their mobile networks. Pouring salt into the wound, the content, devices and software companies have proved much more effective at entering each other’s markets than the operators have. Search engine Google’s Android mobile operating system (OS), for example, has effectively achieved take-up operator efforts could only ever dream of. Apple’s......
