I. Summary Pedro Calungsod, a young Filipino man, leaves his Visayan native roots to join the Spanish Jesuit priest Fr. Diego de San Vitores in his mission to the Marianas Islands (Guam) in 1668.

The San Diego Mission arrives in the Marianas where the young Pedro, a trained catechist and mission assistant, begins work for Fr. Diego de San Vitores in baptizing the Chamorro natives, preaching the holy gospel and spreading the good news of salvation through the Christian faith amidst paganism, doubt and disbelief. Despite the longing for his father and the threats to their lives, even at the peril of death, Pedro and Fr. Diego continued their missionary work. They roamed the dangerous islands and baptized many more natives and continued to enlighten them about Christianity.

Guam is now a devoutly Catholic state and this is the story of how the young Filipino saint, between wars and persecutions, played his part in this divine mission.

II. Personal Reaction

A short introduction to the movie, A movie on the life of Filipino saint Pedro Calungsod, Church groups said the film is "an effective tool of new evangelization."

Although there were no figures given, organizers of the Metro Manila Film Festival said “Pedro Calungsod The Child Martyr” trailed in earnings compared to the other movies on the opening day.

Early reviews have varied between lukewarm and scathing, with one critic dismissing it as "a sermon best saved for church."

The good points of the movie, I’ll give high points to this Calungsod film, and the cinematography indignation (the Chamorros), had me wishing for a different approach to the screenplay; buwork has much to commend it. That you had the characters too often talking in platitudes (those in the Jesuit mission), or in strident t yes, there was this need to make Pedro Calungsod’s life a film subject, to bring home to more people an understanding of how he earned sainthood

. A Francis Villacorta film, the movie tells a story of a young Visayan saint who was martyred in the name of his Christian faith. It is an official entry to the 2013 Metro Manila Film Festival. Pedro Calungsod is portrayed by actor Rocco Nacino who accepted the role as he’s looking forward to new learnings and an opportunity to play someone who is special in the lives of many Filipinos. The GMA-7 actor had previously portrayed the same role for a GMA News and Public Affairs documentary. The film won’t entirely be just about Calungsod’s martyrdom but will also tackle he played in the San Diego Mission at the Marianas Islands (Guam) led by Father Diego de San Vitores.

So Far no negative points in the movie the acting are great, and well perform. I would recommend to other to watch the pedro calungsod movie.

The overall reaction, the movie by far says it all about the life of pedro calungsod, I’ve learn how he became a saint. I highly recommend to people to watch the movie pedro calungsod, to learn some history in life.…...

... Life of San Pedro Calungsod Blessed Pedro Calungsod (c. 1654 – April 2, 1672) was a young Roman Catholic Filipino sacristan and missionary catechist, who along with Spanish Jesuit missionary Blessed Diego Luis de San Vitores, suffered religious persecution and martyrdom on Guam for their missionary work in 1672. Calungsod was beatified on March 5, 2000 by Blessed Pope John Paul II. On February 18, 2012, Pope Benedict XVI officially announced at Saint Peter’s Basilica that Calungsod will be canonised on October 21, 2012. Pedro was just one of the boy catechists who went with San Vitores from the Philippines to the Ladrones Islands in the western North Pacific Ocean in 1668 to evangelize the Chamorros. In that century, the Jesuits in the Philippines used to train and employ young boys as competent catechists and versatile assistants in their missions. The Ladrones at that time was part of the old Diocese of Cebu. Life in the Ladrones was hard. The provisions for the Mission did not arrive regularly; the jungles were too thick to cross; the cliffs were very stiff to climb, and the islands were frequently visited by devastating typhoons. Despite the hardships, the missionaries persevered, and the Mission was blessed with many conversions. The first mission residence and church were built in the town of Hagåtña in the island of Guam. At this time, Spanish missionaries were actively converting Chamorros to Roman Catholicism. Very...

Hola Pedro

...Hola Pedro! Adios, Hasta luego!...

There were around 18 towns populated by indigenous people in the Sula valley at the time. Early descriptions of the landscape indicate abundant swampland and dense tropical forests, with little land good for agriculture or cattle raising. The city's name became San Pedro Sula in the 18th century, after several changes. The "Sula" part of its name comes from the Minas de Sula, gold mines located to the west of the village of Naco. Panoramic view of Downtown San Pedro Sula For the first few years of its history, San Pedro was the colonial mint, where gold, found to the west in the Naco, Sula, and Quimistán valleys, had to be brought to smelt, and where the Spanish Crown collected a fifth of the value of the gold. Pedro Paramo

...Is there a set distinction between reality and illusions? Can someone’s illusions be their reality? What happens if one is lost within the abyss of such a struggle? Magical realism is somewhat of an explanation for such struggle. Magical Realism is a form of art, which allows people to view the world differently. It deals with emotions, meaning, and mystery in trying to figure out what life is, but only through a distinct imagination and willingness to learn can someone understand such feelings and actions. Both Pedro Paramo, from Pedro Paramo, and Will Atenton, from the movie “Dream House”, are lost within the lives that they believed to be reality but are in fact illusions. Both characters live within a life with their wives that are perceived to be true, but are in fact completely wrong. Do they figure it out? Will Atenton lives in this illusion in which him, his wife, and two daughters have just moved into a new home whose previous owners were killed and the father was sent to a psychiatric ward. The father, Peter Ward, allegedly killed his wife and two daughters only after being accidently shot in the head, himself, by his wife. Atenton searched for the answers just to be told by the psychiatric ward, which once held Peter Ward, that he is Peter Ward. He had created a new identity to cope with the death of his family. Upon figuring out that he in fact is Peter Ward, he also realizes that his perception of his children and wife were all illusions. How could......

Frequency of Tardiness and Academic Performance

...this. The researchers mainly wish if their tardiness affects their academic performance or not at all. Statement of the Problem The researchers have observed the frequency of the case of tardiness among the grade nine students of San Pedro College Basic Education Department. This brought them to make our research revolve around these questions: * What is the mean frequency of academic performance? * Is there a significant relationship between academic performance and the frequency of tardiness? Hypothesis The researchers infer that there is no significant relationship between the frequency of tardiness and academic performance of the Grade Nine Students. The mental capacity of the student cannot be determined by how frequently he or she is late. Late or not, they’re very likely to adjust to the situation and merely ‘go with the flow’ since the subjects of the study are in a mature age to deal with their environment thus making them able enough to do the necessary activities in the period with no regards to other external factors that would deem them as unable to do so. Significance of the Study The researchers conducted this study because of their observation that students, particularly the Grade Nine students from San Pedro College were late in coming to class and in school. This could be observed during the flag ceremony and the Morning Assembly with many students carrying their bags and rushing to come in line. Furthermore, the clearest evidence of......

Deconstructing Death, Gender Roles, and Hope: Comparison and Contrast Between Pedro Paramo and the Handsomest Drowned Man in the World

...Comparison and Contrast between Pedro Paramo and The Handsomest Drowned Man in the World While countless people seek for a happy ending when encountering a novel, a story might not always end in a happy ending. Though some stories around the world seem to convey similar morals, they still may differ in style and in the means of how they are illustrated. In fact, the elements of a story may display distinct societies depending on the time period or the author’s values and point of view. For instance, in the Korean novels of the 18th century, women are depicted as weak and careless. In contrast, women are illustrated as more scrupulous and sincere in modern stories (“A study on the types of female portraits in modern Korean novels : focusing on 18 Literature textbooks for high school,” 2010). Besides gender roles, the portrayal of death and hope may also be dissimilar between two novels. Pedro Paramo, by Juan Rulfo (1955), and The Handsomest Drowned Man in the World, by Gabriel Garcia Marquez (1968), are two primary examples. Both authors depict a society in accordance to their cultural traits and experiences, but apparently the two authors possess distinct reflections about death, gender roles, and hope. The following essay will compare and contrast how death is portrayed in the two works, how males and females are discriminated according to their roles, and the hope that the characters in each story share. Unquestionably, settings in both Pedro Paramo and The Handsomest......
