...HOMEWORK 2 Avoiding Permanent Damage from Temporary Help Dated: 08/01/2012 Keller Graduate School of New York Course MGMT 520 Business: Its Legal, Ethical, and Global Environment In nowadays, background check of hiring employee is practicing by almost all agencies. Point is that, the skills of the applicant can be, somehow, figured out. It is much more difficult to assess the level of trust, honesty, mental toughness, and loyalty. Reading through chapter 9, and conducting a slight research, my answers to the questions of the given scenario are as follows: 1. Do temporary agencies have a “duty” to run background checks? If so, did Robert half “breach that duty?” Why or Why not? According to the law of negligence, temporary agencies should follow the duty policy on background check on pre-employment, in order not to satisfy an element of negligence. In case of Robert Half International Inc., and Fox Associates, Inc., I don’t think, that duty was breached, the company trusted to provided information by Ms. Ross about herself, and she got good recommendations from her former employers. At some extend, it is a background check. 2. The court ruled against Fox Associates. Was the court correct? Do you think Fox should have done its own background check? Why or Why not? I agree with the court decision, that it was determined that duty is not breached, because it happened unknowingly. Even though the company recommended the employee, Fox could do its own......

...Homework and Testing 1 Homework and Testing Assigning Homework How much is too much? As with classroom assignments, homework should never be given as busy work. It should have a purpose with a goal. And as I mentioned in the Behavioral Approach to Learning, homework should NEVER be given as punishment. The kid will associate homework with punishment. This may interest you. Harris Cooper (1998) analyzed more than 100 research studies on homework in American schools. He found that homework had a very small connection with test scores at the elementary level. If anything, the more homework an elementary school student had, the more negative their attitude was toward school. Plus it takes away from their social time, which is an important part of growing up. Kids need to learn social skills. Too much homework causes stress, as you probably know very well by now. Kids need to have down time too! Why does homework have such a small effect at the elementary level? One reason is that young children have limited attention spans and are very distractible. It is difficult to do homework in a house that has many distractions. Teachers need to work with parents and help students find a quiet space to do homework. Most professional organization in education agrees that homework should never exceed 10 - 20 minutes per day in grades K - 2. In grades 3 - 6 homework should never exceed 30 - 60 minutes per day. Another reason elementary school children do not benefit much from homework is...

...HOMEWORK ASSIGNEMENT #1 Well, where to start. Ive never been asked to write about myself for a school assignment, and I definetly wasn’t expecting it from a Biology class. Is My House My Home?

...Goguen 1 Evangeline Goguen Professor Laurie Cooper English 1041 15 October 2013 Is My House My Home? For as long as I can remember I’ve lived in the same 100 year old house. It was the place where I experienced so many firsts: my first play date, my first sleepover, my first kiss, and my first heartbreak. I never thought I’d be excited to leave, but as the years passed, that house didn’t feel like home anymore. The house sat on 5 acres of land; I had a view of the field in the backyard from my bedroom window. I would sit and stare at the long grass, as the wind would make it dance. The front flowerbeds were always weeded no matter how much it hurt my mother’s back. The pain was worth it to see the vibrant colors of spring’s first bloom. In the backyard, an old mice-infested barn that sat there uselessly was converted into a cottage. It was like a home away from home. Moving on to the inside of the house, through that annoying door that never closed properly, there was the kitchen. The yellow walls made the place seem cheerful and the cherry wood cabinets added some warmth. There was no dinning room; there was simply an eat-in kitchen. Many dinners, few that were satisfying, have been served on that glass top table. On the other side of the kitchen, two rocking chairs facing each other were placed beside the window. We were a family of three so it was a race to see who would have to pull up an extra chair. I always lost since I was the child. We had countless......

...Homework 1 On the 19th of September on the year 1991 in a very small city hospital in Brazil a very handsome boy was born, and that boy is me. My name is ________, I grew up playing soccer and running around on the streets of Brazil. When I was about 16 years old I came to visit United States and it was love at first visit, and I decided to make this place my new home. I lived in Florida for the most part, my parents were always relocating due to their work. I went to four different high schools, and the last one of them was in Boston, MA where I graduated. After high school I took a 6 month brake from school to decide what profession I wanted to follow. After a long time contemplating my decision I chose Civil Engineering as my major and started at FIU. I started working at the age of 17 at a fast food restaurant (Pizza Hut), I worked there for quite some time until I had to leave because my parents were moving to Boston. Once in Boston I found a pizza hut very close to my house and I applied there. Needless to say I got the job. After that I moved back to Florida where I started working at a 4 star restaurant, then another restaurant. After some time working in the restaurant business I wanted to get experience in some other area, maybe in an area that would be related to civil engineering and help me in the future. Then I started working at a Hotel in Miami Beach as an ‘engineer’. Yes the tittle is very misleading because all I did was maintenance work, still it was......

...everyday? The people who are always giving a lot of homeworks and projects, making our life hard? Teachers are great. They teach us in all ways they could. They guide us through different challenges. They act as light when we’re on darkness. They’re affection strengthens students. They’re patience are unbelievable. For even though, we, students are acting childishly, they forgive us. They’re like a second mom to us. And especially, they love us like a true mother. Once, when I was still young, I had a very kind and loving teacher. And for me, she was the reason why I am here in my spot today. She was the building block of my knowledge. She’s my teacher on kindergarten. She’s strict, yes, but still very affectionate. She was the one who discovered I’m myopic. After discovering this, she told it to my mom and I was able to see the world clearly. She was also the one who always guides me through everything. She taught me how to read, write, count, and how to be strong in every circumstance I face. She taught me how to meet friends. I learned many lessons from her. She always taps my head whenever I learned something new. And in that small gesture, I know how much her affection is for me. She’s a person whom I can ask help from anytime I want. She’s a person willing to help a lost child to make her a successful one. And I’m very thankful to her. She was like my hero once and I know she’ll forever be one. ...Liza Erpelo May 9, 2009 “Before I learned how to speak Tagalog, people made fun of me because of my New Jersey accent. They would ostracize me because I am an American,“ (Reyes). As one can see, language is the main issue in the Filipino American society that needs to be resolved in order to reserve history and traditions. Throughout the interview with Brian, I found that he went through hardships because he could not speak Tagalog. His early lifestyle of growing up in New Jersey gave Brian a disadvantage because he did not have a real reason why a Filipino dialect would be important to learn. His situation occurred during the 80’s and, since then, the number of Filipino and Filipino Americans not knowing a Filipino dialect increased. There can be many rationalizations as to why, year-by-year, the population amongst young Filipino and Filipina Americans retain from learning a part of their heritage. For example, in the book Homebound, by Yen Le Espiritu, there is a reference as to why some immigrant parents refrain from teaching their children how to speak a Filipino dialect. Similar opinions also occur in the section “Filipino American Identity: Transcending the Crisis,” by Linda A. Revilla, and how Filipino soldiers stationed in Hawaii were called a “disgracia,” or a disgrace, because they did not know a Filipino language. Both books correlate to what my brother went through when he was living in the Philippines for two years. In his early days of......

...Kristine Alpurado Professor Melodia English 100: College Writing 02/15/2016 Homework #1 “Looking for Work” p. 22 Engaging the Text, q. 1-5 1. The narrator is so attracted to the family life depicted on TV because they live a perfect life and that is exactly what he wants. One thing he feels that is wrong with his life is his family’s appearance. He believes if they improved their looks they would be accepted by others such as white people. This has little impact on his family because they realize life is not perfect and they are not in control of certain things. The family realizes they do not have to change in order to be liked by others as long as they have each other to love. 2. At first, the narrator goes looking for work because he wants to be wealthy. He believed that being wealthy would take away all his family’s problems. At the end of the story, the narrator starts to accept the fact that he cannot change the way his family is. My Lost Homework Assignment

...My Lost Homework Assignment I completed my homework assignment and left it sitting on the table. I went to get my folder so I could put it away. It took me just seconds to return to the table. My homework was gone. What could have happened to it so quickly? I checked the dog, the children and even my wife. Nobody knew anything about my missing homework. So I started a search with the help of everyone in my family. While searching I saw paper hanging out the window. It was the cover page. Then I looked outside for the other pages. As I searched I found another page in the garage. How it got there I’ll never know. As I continued my search my next door neighbor stopped me and asked if I had I lost something. I said yes. He pulled a crumpled piece of paper out of his car. He went and explained that it had blown into his car a couple blocks back. The last paper of my homework was found when I had given up on searching for it. My phone rang, and it was my brother. He was almost a mile away at the gas station pumping his gas when a paper blew on to his foot. He said when he removed it he saw my name on it, and had to give me a call. I didn’t believe it so I told him to bring it with him. To my surprise it was my final page. Even up to this day the events of the missing homework assignment is still a mystery to me....
