The journey of my writing

Writing is a beautiful thing. There are like rainbows rare majestic and transparent. Good writing is rare and majestic because the reader understands exactly the point of view that the writer is trying to convey. They are also transparent because the writers meaning can be hidden through symbolism, irony or even syntax. However good writing is a process just like anything else. It takes time to tone your skills and develop your writing.
My writing is no exception. There are many things I need to develop. It has considerably grown from when I first started writing in 4th grade till now.
My first writing was a fictional story we had to come up with. IU wrote about being trapped on an island that was surrounded by sharks. It sounds pretty easy however it was not. My story did not flow throughout for example as I crashed down and swam towards the island there were sharks. There is no transition from the crash to sharks. For a 4th grader trying to write a simple story was hard.I was a beginner in wrting. Many teachers were surprised at my writing skill. I was a bookworm and was well above my reading level. Being able to read high level was suppose to increase your writing skills or that’s what I believed. But that did not happen to me. The teachers and myself kept asking how can I be such a good reader but not a good writer. That question used to mistify me, I could not figure out the answer for that. I kept reading higher level books and still that didn’t help, I also read books recommended to me by teachers but that also didn’t help. What could possibly be wrong maybe I was an exception to the saying.

Just recently I found the answer to my question. It turns out I was not reading critically. I was reading for reading and not understanding. However understanding is the main point of reading. I hope to increase my skills with this…...

My Progress in Writing

...understanding English when talking to others. Writing an essay was almost impossible for me to think of. Realizing how difficult it was to experience these linguistic difficulties, I then decided to go back to school to improve my English skills. Therefore, English became especially essential for me to succeed in my educational goals. I was determined to earn an Associate’s degree then transfer to a university for a Bachelor’s degree. I started going to ESL classes and studied English very hard to make progress in my speaking, reading and writing skills. After spending one year in ESL classes, I qualified for English 43. I learned lots of grammar and how to write paragraphs efficiently during these classes. I noticed that writing an essay was more challenging when I got into English 49. However, since then I’ve learned how to write a five-paragraph argumentative essay which was one of my weaknesses in academic writings. I have made a lot of progress in writing skills since I started studying English 49. I now think that I’m ready to go on to English 101 due to the fact that I have learned useful strategies to follow a writing process and develop coherent paragraphs effectively. A writing process is the most important step that I learned in this class. First of all, before writing a complete essay, I need to come up with the pre-writing which consists of free writing and brainstorming. I found this step essential because free writing helps me find as many supports and......

My Aproach to Writing

...Yessenia Amaya My approach to writing I have many goals for my English course, and one of those goals is to get into the habit of writing more. By getting into the habit of writing more I am going to accomplish my second goal which is to fix my spelling and grammar. For example learn where to put my commas and periods and learn how to spell words I don’t really use. Another major goal I have for this course is to learn how to target my audience, learn who my audience is and write to the appeal of that audience. My final goal and the most important goal I have for this course is to get an A+. My plan is to try and hand in everything on time and not miss a class. I hope I can accomplish these goals. I also always set up goals when writing an academic paper. For example, I try and get the least grammar spelling errors as possible. I also set goals to finish my papers a paper a certain time so I have time to proofread and revise my paper. And the most important goal I set when I write is to hand in my paper on time. With these goals I hope to get a better grade. I have many challenges when I write. My biggest challenges when writing for others is trying not to have many grammars and spelling errors, but I always do. Another challenge I have is that I don’t know if I’m getting through to my audience or not. I’m also always concerned if I’m giving enough information to the person I’m writing to, in other words being informative. And my biggest challenge might be that......

My Journey

...On February 7, 1967 my journey started on the freedom ride. The events which took place in the past week were the worst experiences of my life. Until now I have not realized how unworthy my existence is to this world. I actually feel like I am nothing, I feel like a nobody I feel so worthless, actually who am I? I just sitting here right now and thinking to myself what has this country changed to. I am basically being treated in the non-human category. I have been discriminated against, been hurt physically, mentally and emotionally for being in my own country and practising my own religion, traditions and beliefs. On the first day on the freedom ride we headed off to Moree, In Moree we decided to address the segregation of the local swimming pool. Firstly we protested out the front of the council chambers. We then to took the Aboriginal children to the pool. The white people were angry and furious they had thought that we would bring diseases and infections by swimming in the same pool as them, but we insisted and we didn’t leave until we fulfilled our satisfactions. But obviously we didn’t enjoy the stay at the pools the white people were calling out offensive names to us and throwing pebbles at us and swearing at us but we had no choice. From my own memory I can just recall the white Australians saying “we don’t want these scary looking animal like creatures around us” I wanted to cry but I had to man up. Such humans like us aboriginals are being compared to animals.......

My New Journey

...My New Journey I realized that my journey from high school to college would not be so easy for me. When it come to high school I didn't do as well as I wanted to. My grades were not something i was so happy about. I was the kid that my friends wouldn't see everyday in class and I didn't really care too much when it was time to study. Now as I start my new journey into the college life I know it’s going to be a challenge and I'm going to have to change in some ways to prepare myself for success such as not missing class, being able to make the time to try understand what the teacher is teaching, and most important complete any assignments that may be assigned for homework or class work. The first way I'm going to prepare myself for college is to keep good attendance. When I think back to my high school days the one thing I remember was skipping class or not being able to wake up early enough in the morning to make it to school. In order to break out this habit I would have to do a few things. One reason why I didn’t go to class in high school was because it was boring and after awhile going became pointless. So to begin with, I would have to tell myself over that school might be boring at times but going is important for my future and to my parents. In addition to reminding myself about the importance I would also have to fight through any sickness that may occur because missing one day of class, is one class too many. With the speed that college moves there...

Writing Journey

...In my younger days, I thought of the term literacy as being able to physically read a written piece of work. I thought the ability to read was when an individual could actually pick up a book, magazine, or even the daily news, and have the ability to understand the collage or words on the page. Most believe that this simple understanding of what words are on the paper is all there is to know about reading. But what most people do not know, is that there is a much deeper meaning behind the word literacy. Along with being able to actually read a piece of literature, there is also having the ability to determine what that piece actually means or the overall message behind it. This helpful but yet difficult skill to attain is the ability to analyze. Many individuals tend to leave the process of analysis out of the equation when discussing literacy abilities. Some also over look the fact the knowledge gained through reading can be applicable to life in general. Consequently, these talents are not just acquired overnight. Learning to read and understand written words and languages takes time, as there are many more parts to literacy than one would imagine. Although learning to read can prove to be difficult, even for the smartest of children, everyone has to start somewhere. For me, my journey began when I was in kindergarden. My teacher, Mrs. Kroon, had a clever trick to help teach her students how to read. She believed that learning to read starts off with becoming familiar......

Convict to College: My Journey

...of Convicts: My Journey People have a lot of personal and media opinionated views of people who have been convicted of crimes. Employers, when they are screening for job positions might believe they cannot trust the convicts. If they have been arrested for one crime, then they must commit other types of crimes also, for instance hey must steal, lie, and cheat. Why would they be invited to holiday parties? They probably cause scenes because they are trouble makers. People think that if you have been arrested for drugs that you do not know the dangers of drug abuse. They do not know that drugs hurt the dealer and the users, not to mention how it affects the families on both ends. When people have been arrested for assault they need anger management. They are institutionalized and commit crimes because they enjoy to be in prison, so they must have gay or lesbian intentions. The think that it is easy for people that have been incarcerated to be upholding citizens without being prejudiced against. People do not believe if you have felony convictions you should not be able to vote for the political parties. They should not be able to adopt or foster children because they are not trustworthy. You cannot work for the state or federal government, why when there are people without the convictions who could fill those positions. People think that if you have been in prison for as a result of felony convictions that you are incapable of changing or helping other people. My experience is...

My Approach to Writing

...My Approach to Writing By: Michael Czeczeli My goals for this course are fairly simple. My biggest goal for this course is to learn how to write a paper and get my point across without going overboard with run- on sentences and un-needed info. In my career field it’s going to be very important to be able to get my point across with minimal errors and mistakes. Another goal of mine is to learn to overall like writing. When I first started school I couldn’t stand writing papers or sending emails, but since that is the biggest line of communication today I need to learn to love it. I plan on using my writing in many different ways. One major way I plan on using writing is sending emails and letters to customers and employees at work. I hope to be a General Manager or at least Assistant General Manager of a major company or corporation after graduation. I plan to also use my writing throughout my college career. My college career is looking to be a long one since I plan to continue until I receive my masters’ degree in business. A really big use of my writing will be helping my daughters as they journey through school over the years to come. When I set out to write an academic paper I usually set a few goals for myself. The major goal for me is to insure that the reader gets all the information that is intended for them. I want to make sure that they fully understand where I’m coming from without drawing it out too much. Sometimes I have problems with run-on sentences...

My Mothers Career Journey

...My Mothers Career Journey William Howard Strayer University ENG 090 Prof: Collyn Warner November 12, 2013 Past, Present and Future Going back to school was not a difficult decision for my mom to make. As she looked back over her life and saw what she had accomplished in her current career field without a degree, she could only image what she could accomplish if she had a degree. She has always dream of having several degrees, one in information technology and the other in management. So one day as she was surfing the internet for jobs and even at her current employer she noticed that the better paying position required a degree. So she made up her mind that the only thing to it was to do it, return to school to get a degree. She attended the University of Phoenix where she received her bachelor’s degree. She knew it was going to be hard and challenging but she did not let that make me lose sight of why she was coming back to school in the first place. She attended previous colleges such as King’s College for their Medical Office Assistance program and ECPI College of Technology for their Network Administration Office Technology program. But even after completing those programs she felt it was not enough, she still felt just at entry level. Her level of professional competences such as problem solving, written and oral communication skills, research and collaboration were not strong. She believed that her......

Magis Journey and My Life

...brought up by my parents to become an electrical engineer. Louisiana Tech University was supposed to be the maker of my career. Nobody ever asked me or cared about what I wanted to be or what I wanted to do. I joined Louisiana Tech to pursue my parent’s dream of seeing me as an electrical engineer. A year passed at Tech and I joined the International Students Organization at Tech which gave me an opportunity to experience leadership and event management. I felt immense happiness and satisfaction whenever I was to organize an event at the university, it could either be a rock concert, a cultural show, a charity event, or community service. Doing homework and studying course books were part of my academic life whereas joining different organizations and conducting events had become my personal interest. I could relate my life experience with T.S. Elliot’s “The Journey of the Magi”. Just as the Magi went through difficulties of travel, I too have been through quandaries and difficulties in finding a balance between my academic and personal life. I was getting bad grades for my classes, really bad. There was no motivation for me to improve my academics. I was rather enjoying my achievements and recognition that I was gaining by my event management pursuit. I had just successfully organized a rock concert at the university; I was featured in the Tech Talk; and I had earned a two page spread in the yearbook. The quest of the Magi for Jesus is a long arduous journey against the......

My Journey

...water in Hot Springs does not seem the cleanest sometimes. There are springs available downtown and the residents and tourists of Hot Springs like to fill their water bottles, and enormous jugs with this refreshing clean water. I normally stop by there while on my run and fill my water bottle. There have been times where I have waited for almost 30 minutes. I remember one day specifically when my family and I were out running and there were two cars filled with families filling up their jugs. One car had a license plate from Rhode Island, and the other, Ontario, Canada. I thought to myself, what, in Hot Springs is so amazing that someone has to drive from so far away to visit. There is a very popular place that tourists go to relax and it is bath house row. It is one of the tourist attractions downtown and there are several things to do such as the spa baths and the massages. Sometimes bath house row is so packed that the lines are reaching the street. There are park rangers unnecessarily walking around directing traffic because of this, or simply patrolling the area because it is always full of people. I have lived in the downtown area for most of my life and it is such a hassle getting anywhere. I do not like leaving my house most of the time because I cringe at the thought of how long it will take me to leave that area because of the tourism. At one point tourism became so congested downtown that the residents (including myself when I was 16) got together and......

My Views on Writing

...young girl, I always loved trips to the library throughout my school years. Though I enjoyed reading and the joys it brought to me, I could not begin to imagine writing in any of the books I read. I often imagined writing the suspenseful, and exciting stories that I read and in time; I got the chance to try and do so. The writing process for me was a little more difficult than I had ever imagined. As I began writing the pieces necessary for my English classes as a young adult, I soon realized that there was more to writing and jotting down words on a piece of paper for an assignment. As a developing writer, I knew very little in the beginning, I am very aware now that writing a paper indeed takes a great amount of time and requires a lengthy process in order to write an exceptional paper. There were definitely a lot of wrongs, before I learned right, but I now can say that I have gradually developed the ability to write, organize and prepare a paper whenever needed. The most important part of the writing process to me, would have to be the editing process. Along with editing, there is revision, which is a crucial process to developing an exceptional paper. The editing and revising process of writing is crucial to the writer and the reader because with incorrect grammar, sentence structures, punctuation etc., it is not only difficult for the reader to understand, but for the writer as well if the reason they are writing cannot be understood the way it was intended. Based......
