Internet Privacy Law Internet privacy has been a major issue since the movement of the internet into mainstream culture since the early 1990s. We have basically the entire world on the internet now, let alone America itself, and it really is a massive social experiment. We have nothing to compare the internet to throughout history and governments are debating and experimenting on how best to govern this incredible evolution of communication. It is important to remember that the internet really is quite new. The benchmarks we set now are extremely important to the rest of history on this planet because like it or not, the internet is definitely here to stay. The world has rapidly become dependent on its functioning. This is why internet privacy law is so important. We are establishing standards that our progeny will have to live with for years and years to come. The current state of internet privacy is a bit blurry because there are many factors at play here. We have many interest groups, concerns, and legal issues to consider. The legal issues we are looking at when talking about privacy on the internet are primarily free speech, and whether the government or organizations have the right to track your personal information. If they do have that right, how much information can they use and how can they use it? The reason we are dealing with free speech here is because there is a question as to what all can be broadcast in the public domain so to speak. For example, should a website be able to post the names of a member’s children? Should pornography websites be legal? Should music be freely broadcast without compensation to the artists? These are all examples of important questions that our government and all sorts of different interest groups are attempting to address. The RIAA, Recording Industry Association of America, is one example of an interest group that is in favor of not allowing the so-called ‘free speech’ of music. This is because people can sell artists’ music without compensation. We have all heard of the Napster cases etc. which have changed the face of how we distribute music – a prime cultural influence in America. Now we are dealing with movies and books as well. Basically anything can be distributed over the internet, and anyone who creates a product is against the free distribution of material. The Federal Trade Commission attempted to pass the SOPA act, Stop Online Piracy Act, with much support from huge industries such as the RIAA, CBS.com, and many other big hitters. This act had a huge effect by setting a standard for the types of things that will be attempted by many bills to come. It’s primary goal was to increase law enforcements ability to battle copyright infringement on the internet. A big cornerstone of the bill was to ban the streaming of copyrighted content, for example movies and music, with the penalty of up to 5 years in prison. The bill was not passed, however it did bring up some very important issues that will be battled over for years to come. What it also did was involve the federal courts in the decision making and make them aware of what is going on. As of now, the federal courts haven’t really gotten a good grasp on what to really do – if anything at all. They did pass many child protection acts, for example COPPA in 1998, and CIPA in 2001. COPPA was an act that put limits on the type of information that can be tracked by sites and disseminated. CIPA was an act that requires internet filters to be installed on web browsers and websites to basically keep children from seeing thing they are not supposed to see. Of course these filters are optional by the computer user so it may or may not be effective. The majority of protections to privacy have been placed in the responsibility of the websites themselves, state law, and internet technology companies coming up with their own solutions to make the public feel safe. Many free speech activists agree with these happenings because they don’t think that it is the federal governments job get their knows into the internet, seeing as how the internet is basically the mother of all free speech that this world has ever seen. So because of the lack of federal involvement, these companies and the internet so far have been left to their own devices. One act that put this in serious jeopardy however was the USA PATRIOT Act passed during George W. Bush’s presidential term in response to 9/11. Basically this act bumped up the previous 1986 ECPA Act which allowed wiretapping and information gathering of electronic devices. It bumped it up to the point where the NSA and other government agencies could freely gather information over the internet from any individual if they deemed the individual to have suspicious motives. This is a huge deal in internet privacy and it lead to all the current events we hear about, such as the NSA gathering phone numbers of millions of Americans and people from other countries, the Julian Assange Wikileaks.org deal, as well as the Edward Snowden whistleblowing about the NSA’s activities. All of these major events tie back to internet privacy law and electronic privacy law in general. So it will be interesting to see the way that things go from here on out. One thing is certain, and that is that internet privacy law is massively important to the future of free speech in this country so we should all stay very aware of what is going on! The whole world is becoming more and more dependent on the internet so it is incredibly important that we make the right decisions for the long term productivity and success of this country, as well as the protection of our liberties. Most would say they are either extremely for or extremely against internet privacy, while I personally fall somewhere in the middle. I think there is a delicate balance that must be achieved because both sides of the argument are equally valid.…...

...seven statements that Jesus states, which are readily known as the “I am…” statements. There is an eighth claim that was also made by Jesus about Himself; when He simply states, “I am.” Theologian Elmer Towns states in his textbook, (Elmer Towns) “This is a statement of identification with Old Testament deity. Christ is implying, “I am…I am,” the self-existent One. He is claiming to be their God. The Old Testament is pointing to the coming One. Many scriptures tell that someone is coming. Who is coming? Could it be the Messiah? The people of John’s time were looking, searching, hoping for the One to come. Ray Stedman states in his commentary (Ray Stedman) “In John's day, people were stirred by the fact that John the Baptist had appeared. They asked him, "Are you the Christ?" He said, "No, but he is coming after me," and when Jesus began to preach up and down the hills of Judea and Galilee, men were saying everywhere, "Is this the One? Is this the Messiah?" The first time Jesus made this self-existent claim without explanation or without the use of a metaphor is found in John 4:26. Jesus was speaking to the Samaritan woman at the well in this scripture verse. Jesus being Deity had been telling her things about herself that no one knew. The exchange between the woman and Jesus is very telling. The Deity of Christ is examined by the woman when she states to Jesus in John 4:2, “The woman said to Him, I know that Messiah is coming, He who is called the Christ (the......

Who Am I?

...Who Am I As a Student? I feel like I’m not qualified enough to speak in the classroom, especially during SPS discussions. When I look at the rest of the class, I see the students who know almost everything and have something to say about. I might have something to talk about too, but I just let them talk, because I feel like they already know what I will say or they might have thought the same ideas. Then, I give up and don’t bother participating. After all, I probably look like a loser or a shy person, who I think I’m not; at least I don’t want to be. Who Am I? I think she is neither very aggressive nor very passive. What I hate is her being so selfish all the time. I am more aggressive to my friends than the members of my family. I am being aggressive sometimes when something I can’t stand happens, such as being arrogant, attempts to take control over me or despise me. I am passive when I don’t feel like I have something to tell. It usually happens when I don’t know the people around me beforehand. It is because of the feeling “I don’t count”. It takes time for me to get used to a place or a crowd. If I trust myself, I am not passive at all. Conclusion In order to have better grades and a better life, we should open up ourselves and give a chance to the others. No matter who we are and where we are, we should follow the voice, which is inside us and do whatever it says without following any rules or letting the restrictions limit ourselves. This is the only......

Why I Am Where I Am

...years of schooling I have always had the worst exsperience. I was teased all my years of elementry, middle school I was ignored, high school I was the "GEEK" who wore her mothers and sisters clothing. It seems like I have never had a break. I was never able to concentrate on school because I was just always worried about what everyone was saying about me. I was in and out of school, skipping class, hiding in bathrooms just to ignore the akward step of walking into a classroom. I never had anyone to talk to about these things, so I just kept everything inside of me. My mother "then", was not focused on us. She didnt wake us up in the mornings, she didnt get us ready for school, she wouldnt take us to school if we missed the bus. My second oldest sister did all of those things. If we missed the bus I remember having to run across the highway, and this is elementry and middle school days, to catch the bus before it went around the turn around. I never had someone forcing me to go to school or help me through my troubled years. I had to learn to coop on my own and get through things on my own. By the time I got into highschool i just didnt care anymore, I started hanging out with the wrong people doing things that I shouldnt have been doing having to switch schools countless times all eventually led me to just dropping out of high school. By this time, I was 18 and I was forced to live with my boyfriend and his family because of my mother kicking me out right when I turned 18.......

I Think I Am/Am Not an Entrepreneur. I Am a ... Entrepreneur Because...

..."I think I am/am not an entrepreneur. I am a ... entrepreneur because...” 15/9/201 Introduction In this assignment, I will explain as to why I think I am a lifestyle entrepreneur and the reasons as to why I think I am classified as this type of entrepreneur. I will discuss what a lifestyle entrepreneur is as well as the major motivations that form an integral part of the lifestyle entrepreneur’s choice to follow the specified path. The following motivations of autonomy, family and leisure time, passion and intrinsic reward and satisfaction as well as life quality will be discussed at different stages of my assignment. I will also show how some of these motivations integrate together to form a basis for the lifestyle entrepreneur. What is a lifestyle entrepreneur? As noted by Henderson (2002:49), to support a desired lifestyle or provide a family income is reasons as to why a lifestyle entrepreneur will start a new venture. These entrepreneurs also seek independence and control over their own schedule. Whilst Mottiar (2007:67) argues that a lifestyle entrepreneur is concerned with maintaining income at a level sufficient enough to provide them and their family with adequate funds to allow them to enjoy their chosen lifestyle. As can been seen in the above, lifestyle entrepreneurs aim to make as much money as they require to live and maintain the lifestyle of their choice (Janssen-Selvadurai, 2010:187). Important components to the lifestyle entrepreneur that act as......

I Am What I Am

...“I Am What I AM” is a musical which was on shown in January in Sheung Wan Civic Centre. The story of the musical is actually a real-life story adapted from a Singapore transgender person, Abigail, about making a tough decision of being loyal to her true gender. Abigail’s frustration of whether to take the Sex Reassignment Surgery (“SRS” for short) or not was exquisitely presented in the musical, so as to communicate with the audience and encourage them to have an in-depth review about the related issue. Why Abigail hopes to be a female rather than a male? To uncover the underlying reasons, let’s start with knowing more about her life in early stage. Being born as a boy, Abigail felt that he was a girl deeply inside his mind. Liked other normal little girls, he loved playing Barbie dolls and doll’s houses. Presenting girls’ characteristics in his childhood gave him a derogatory nickname, “Girlish Boy”, which was frequently called by his classmates in primary school. Trying to conceal his female mind, Abigail always made himself looks like stronger, self-reliant through behaviors, thoughts but seems that was not successful. His classmates continued to laugh at him with offensive languages. When he grew up, he felt much more natural and comfortable to play with girls while sensed shy to play with boys. In Singapore, boys who aged 18 had to serve their duty in military. During that period, Abigail took baths in late evening after all the other soldiers took their baths. It......

Who Am I

...We say a great many things in church (and out of church too) without thinking of what we are saying. For instance, we say in the Creed " I believe in the forgiveness of sins." I had been saying it for several years before I asked myself why it was in the Creed. At first sight it seems hardly worth putting in. "If one is a Christian," I thought " of course one believes in the forgiveness of sins. It goes without saying." But the people who compiled the Creed apparently thought that this was a part of our belief which we needed to be reminded of every time we went to church. And I have begun to see that, as far as I am concerned, they were right. To believe in the forgiveness of sins is not so easy as I thought. Real belief in it is the sort of thing that easily slips away if we don't keep on polishing it up. We believe that God forgives us our sins; but also that He will not do so unless we forgive other people their sins against us. There is no doubt about the second part of this statement. It is in the Lord's Prayer, it was emphatically stated by our Lord. If you don't forgive you will not be forgiven. No exceptions to it. He doesn't say that we are to forgive other people's sins, provided they are not too frightful, or provided there are extenuating circumstances, or anything of that sort. We are to forgive them all, however spiteful, however mean, however often they are repeated. If we don't we shall be forgiven none of our own. Now it seems to me that we often...

I Hope I Am Not Dreaming

...assignment 4 I Hope I Am Not Dreaming On one sunny spring morning, I stepped out of my bed and thought to myself, when does all this end. I knew that I had to pick extra shifts at work because my mother needed some money. My mother had exactly one month to come up with 80 thousand shillings, and if not she would lose her house, that she had used as a collateral for a school loan in order for my younger brother to go to school. Mother had always taught me to be patient with time and that “Gods time wasn’t our time.” At this very minute however, it was almost impossible to still believe, “I have issues of my own, you know” I need a larger apartment, my car sounds like its going to quit any minute now, I need to see a dentist but my company has dropped my insurance coverage. I have invested my time and money into an undergraduate degree that really never change my standard of living, in fact, I am left paying off student loans with money from my old part time job. I walked to the mirror and to my shock; I could not recognize the person in the mirror. I thought this had to be a dream. I stood there for a good ten minutes thinking, how easier life would be for me if I was the woman in the mirror, Paris Hilton. She is an heir to a multimillion dollar establishment. Oh my, I love her blonde hair and skinny body, she is tall, beautiful, not too smart and not college educated but, who cares; she is wealthy. I thought to myself, I could really get used to this. I......

I Am Legend

...I am legend “I am Legend” is a sci-fi movie based on a brilliant military scientist, Robert Neville, whom becomes the last man on earth. He becomes the last man on earth because of a man-made untreatable virus which turns people into flesh eating zombies. He is immune to the virus and the only one who can save humanity. He spends several years trying to control the virus and also broadcasting radio signals for any other survivors. The Zombies creep around in the shadows, observing the scientist’s every move until he makes a fatal mistake. I liked this movie because the effectiveness and dialogue of it were accurate and I didn’t get lost watching all the scenes. The special effects and background coincided with what was going on throughout the movie and also appeared to be realistic. The performance of the main character, Will Smith, was phenomenal and I also felt as if I was in his shoes. Several aspects during certain scenes made the movie stand out from the thousands of movies I’ve watched. When Neville was driving around New York City with his dog Sam in a 2009 ford mustang GT500, the roar of the engine and the watchful eye of his dog following the deers symbolized modern hunting. After they got out on foot and began chasing the wild animals into the growing forest and the lions appeared out of the fields to take Neville’s priced deer gave me the idea that earth was reverting back into prehistoric times. Finally, when he sacrificed his life after he......

I Am Legend

...“I Am Legend” The plot in the movie “I Am Legend” relates closely to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. The first stage of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs is physiological. For a human to survive they need air, food, and water. The main character in “I Am Legend” demonstrates meeting this need by hunting wildlife in one of the first scenes. He also searches other abandoned houses or buildings for canned food to add to his supply at his house. The second stage in Maslow’s hierarchy of needs is safety. This need includes having shelter to remain free from harm. The main character meets this need by installing extra security features on his house. He installed metal doors over his windows and doors with extra locks to prevent anything from intruding. He also meets this need by having a variety of weapons available, which he carries with him anywhere he goes. The third stage in Maslow’s hierarchy of needs is love and belonging. The main character struggled with meeting this need in the movie. He had his dog as a companion, whom he spoke to as if he were human. He also staged manikins in different places throughout the city and talked to them as if they were alive. There were several scenes where he would broadcast in the hopes of letting others know where he could be found if they were seeking shelter. The fourth stage in Maslow’s hierarchy of needs is self-esteem. The main character also struggled with this need. Before the epidemic he had a very powerful position in his career.......

Who I Am

...or Madam, I realize that this is not one of the prompts for the essay. But I thought instead of going through the same essays over and over again, you can get to know more about me and what I’d like to do for the future. Sound good? Ok let’s go. First of all my name is Gustavo Arturo Villarroel De La Concha Alvarez. Pretty long isn’t it? Don’t worry you can call me Gus for short. Over the past year when I still a junior in high school I conjured up a multitude of ideas for innovations that could very well alter the way we manufacture vehicles for the future, but first I need to be educated in the field that best suits that subject, Mechanical Engineering. During my junior year, I bought a 2001 6 cylinder Laser Red Ford Mustang. It was a stick shift too, so it was fun to drive on the highway switching in and out of gears and really hear the engine roar. I went with my mother and step father to the Rolex 24 since they worked for BRA Motorsports and went inside the garages for the racers and I was mesmerized by the array of sport horses as well as the components that make them up. I was always a curious soul, I just felt the need to poke my nose into things that fascinated me and I always had the urge to obtain a COMPLETE understanding of them. I would actually take some of the machines around the house and take them apart to see how they worked. As a matter of fact I always had my parents buy Legos for me to build, they were always star wars spaceships and every time I would......

Who Am I? Why Am I Here?

...Who Am I? My name is xxxxxxxxx and I am a woman originally born in the city of xxxxxx, xxxxx. I came to the United States at age five and I recently became xxx years old on my birthday, this past xxxx x, xxxx. As a woman of Hispanic origin, I am very rich in Latin and Central American Indian culture. I grew up with my mom and aunts speaking a derivative of Pig Latin. I have a Spanish style of cooking and mostly all my plates are xxxxxx dishes. I may have grown up in the states all my life, but I’m almost 100% rooted in Spanish customs. As a person, I identify myself as a child of God. Spiritually, I am always seeking knowledge and wisdom since I believe it comes from God. My faith is deeply rooted in my confession, that I am a spirit who will one day return to my maker. Holding such a belief has its advantages. For example, I generally do not abide by society’s norm of what I should be, or my role in life. I also believe that if I’m still here, there’s work to be done. I love to explore Biblical concepts and beliefs. As a mother I am an attentive soul. I’m always looking out for my children and their personal interest. I like to give them their space, but yet hold them accountable. I tend to be conservative with my children and do not try to push them beyond their limits. To me, being who we are and doing what we do, just as we choose whether to build a relationship with God, is a very personal matter. While most people do not like my parenting style, I think it’s......

I Am the Grass

...ENG-102 Judy Parks January 30 2014 Theme In ”I am the Grass” Daly Walker´s ”I am the Grass” is a short story about Vietnam War veteran, currently practicing plastic surgery, who goes back to Vietnam to ”repair the cleft palates and lips of children on whose land I once wreaked havoc, whose parents and grandparents I murdered and whom, somewhere deep inside me, I still hold in contempt.” Behind the obvious storyline, the story , however, serves us more complicated and moving, even sad example about vulnerable man, who can not escape the ghosts of his past, no matter how hard he is trying. The story consists several different themes that are all related to each others. These themes include war, regret, forgiveness, re-orientation and atonement. To me, forgiveness and atonement seemed to become the main themes of this story. The narrator is struggling with his past and he can not get over it. ” I can not talk about these things that I wish I could forget but know that I never will, ” narrator still bemoans, nevertheless he has been home already for 20 years. He can not tell the truth about the war to his wife nor his daughter and he is desperately ashamed about the things he did while in Vietnam. To make himself feel better, to forgive himself, to remind himself that there is still humanity left inside of him, he works abroad every summer for couple of weeks helping children. By doing this, he is trying to atone the horrors he did in the past. As story shows......

“Who Am I?”

...“Who Am I?” --by Michael Cho I wish I could write about the Michael Cho who stars in my Walter Mitty-like fantasies. If only my personal statement could consist of my name followed by such terms as Olympic athlete, master chef, boy genius, universal best friend, and Prince Charming to every hopeful woman. These claims would be, at worst, outright lies, or at best, gross hyperbole. My dreams, however, take their place alongside my memories, experiences, and genes in the palette that constitutes who I am. Who am I? I am a product of my reality and my imagination. I am innately depraved, yet I am made perfect. I plan my day with the knowledge that “Everything is meaningless” (Ecclesiastes 1:2), but I must “make the most of every opportunity” (Colossians 4:5). I search for simple answers, but find only complex questions. Once, on my way to a wrestling tourname whether living in an abode which rotated near the speed of light would result in my being younger (utilizing the Theory of Relativity) and stronger (utilizing the properties of adaptation along with the definition of centripetal and gravitational force) that I failed to realize that I had left my wrestling shoes in my locker. My mother says that my decision to wrestle is indicative of the fact I don’t think. Through working in a nursing home, the most important lesson I’ve learned is that I have many lessons yet to learn. Thus the most valuable knowledge I possess reminds me how little knowledge I have. Often...
