Introduction
General Motors has made tremendous progress towards diversity. It is sad to say that it took a lawsuit for them to get with reality. General Motors took the right step when they included diversity into such well know business. General Motor added females in their upper management. If General Motors human resource management whould have followed the EEOC regulations, the lawsuit could have been avoided.
The Human Resource Department should have consider who they were hiring. It is that department responsibility of obeying with laws according to the EEOC. When GM decided that they were going to pomote and hire whom they wanted, it became a problem. Someone realize that they bein treated unfairly and refused to follow the law. At some organizations the selection process may focus on specific skills, such as experience with a particular programming language or type of equipment. (Noe 8) Rule of thumb that finds evidence of potential discrimination if an organization’s hiring rate for a minority group is less than four-fifths the hiring rate for the majority group. (Noe 7) Of course they are happy to be excepted. People are more at ease and can function better when they do not have to pretend to be someone that are not. People are free when they can be themselves. Dr. Nelson uses a similar example of Procter & Gamble also paying back company success to employees through extra paid days off. “It ate a little bit of their bottom line, a little bit from the stockholders, but oh my God what it bought them in employee loyalty and productivity,” says Dr. Nelson. “If you’re doing well, share. This enticed many different companies into entering the automobile history to try and meet the growing demand. ...General Motors General Motors Corporation has failed to adequately respond to shifts in its general and competitive environments. We will argue that past success led to over-confident management and inertia, causing lack of foresight in anticipating change, and causing it to undertake obligations that now constrain its ability to react. We will first introduce GM’s traditional business strategy, and what its position is relative to its competitors. Then, we will describe GM’s global, economic, demographic, political/legal, sociocultural and technological environments, showing how GM has fallen behind in each. Each section will end with a discussion of how the environmental changes in question have impacted GM’s position in its competitive enviroment, ultimately leading to its current state of poor sales and near-bankruptcy. We believe GM’s management now needs to be proactive in rectifying its current situation, instead of adopting short-term, stop-gap measures.
