CHAPTER 1 Suggested solutions
1.1 Select an organisation with which you are familiar, and outline some of the main changes that have taken place in its business environment in recent years. 选择你熟悉的一个组织,简要说明了一些近几年在其业务环境中发生的主要变化。
Qantas, the national airline of Australia, has faced a number of changes to the business environment in recent years, including deregulation of the domestic aviation industry. This resulted in increased competition as new companies attempted to enter the industry. The most notable of these was two failed attempts by Compass to succeed in the market and gain market share by savagely cutting prices. Its major competitor, Ansett Australia, collapsed in 2001 resulting in Qantas having almost a monopoly for a short period. A powerful UK airline, Virgin, has also entered the market, with a history of taking legal action against market leaders who attempt to intimidate them using predatory pricing. Further, Impulse Airlines, a local airline, started operations, only to be eventually taken over by Qantas. On top of all this, the international terrorism crisis of 11 September 2001 saw a substantial contraction of international air travel for a period of many months, leading to the collapse of several United States airlines many times the size of Qantas.
Other changes to the business environment have included unrest and war in the Middle East and speculation in oil prices resulting in volatility and serious increases in fuel prices, bombings in Bali in 2002, the outbreak of SARS in 2003, natural disasters such as the Asian tsunami, the heavy…...

...bit of help to complete them. My mom has always been there when I am having problems writing papers. There have been times where I am amazing at them and knock them out like nothing. These are papers are usually short stories or something I can relate to. Then theres times where nothing comes to me and it seems like it takes forever to write them. When writing the papers one of the difficulties came from what I was writing about. In high school papers stressed me out because I knew I was going to have trouble with them. When I had to write my paper for chemistry, I worried about the length, how many citation, and how to cite it. I ask myself how does confidence impact my ability to write? On the one hand the papers I have the most confidence writing and I favor the most are ones where we have to tell a made up story or about a life event. I can write these very easily because I can remember the event very vividly or can make up a story with lots of detail. With event stories I usually just remember then write and occasionally go back to reread and fill some parts with more detail. In high school one of the first papers I had to write in my English class about a life event that changed your life. I thought to myself this is really easy to write about. I had an idea and there was no length on the paper so I didn't have to worry about how long it was. I was ready for this paper. I had confidence and I knew inside I could do this. I wrote about the time when my friend and I......

...proposition. At least one man asked why wait until the night. Another checked his mental calendar and said he couldn't today but what about tomorrow. Another who refused on account of being married apologized for having to refuse on account of being married. Meanwhile just half the men agreed to go out sometime. Extrapolating the finding to the real world means that on any given first date, the man would sooner sleep with the hostess than dine with his companion. The study seemed to confirm every stereotype anyone ever held about what men want (for the purposes of this article, what heterosexual men want). We want women. Now, please—although tonight will do. At worst tomorrow. We want them like that old Army poster with the finger pointing outward. We want you. We want you like we're all Uncle Sam, and dammit if the Germans aren't at it again. Pack up the lab equipment, please, shut off the lights, and move on to more important behavioral studies. Like finding out who drinks "lots of pulp" Tropicana. But the research did not stop there. What psychologists discovered is that underneath the simplicity, we men can be surprisingly complicated. We want women, yes, and we want sex. But we don't always want a slender frame and sharp curves. Sometimes we want a good personality. And a good romantic comedy. And to cuddle. This is laboratory science talking—not Hallmark or four martinis. And our motives for sex have diversified (as have women's)—a reality Hatfield now calls "one......

Include the reactants and the products. Where does it occur? Glycolysis splits the glucose molecule into two pyruvic acid molecules. The Reactants going into the process are Glucose, NAD+ (and ATP to start the reaction). The products are 2 pyruvic acid molecules NADH and a net gain of 2 ATP (2 used 4 produced). This reaction occurs in the cytoplasm and is also considered the first step in both aerobic and anaerobic respiration. What is the role of the citric acid cycle? Include the reactants and the products. Where does it occur? Each of the pyruvic acid molecules will be processed in two separate citric acid cycles. Here the three carbon pyruvic acid molecule is processed to produce ATP and Carbon Dioxide molecules. This Cycle uses ATP to specifically break down the pyruvate into Acetyl Co-A. Once this goes through the cycle, limited ATP as well as more NADH are produced. This happens in the mitochondria when sufficient oxygen is present to form the Carbon Dioxide. What is the role of the electron transport system? Include the reactants and the products. Where does it occur? The role of the......

...Job Interviews: Illegal and Unethical Question MGT 411 Information Systems For Managers In today’s society people are hired for employment on a daily basis. The interview process is not one to be taken lightly. As an interviewer there is a need to know the basics of communication to potential candidates. Illegal and unethical questions are still an issue in today’s workplace environment. Many students are already interviewing for jobs. A person must know their rights in order to protect oneself in a job interview. In this paper I would like to discuss the personal interview, as well as illegal and unethical questions, which should not be used in the interview process. The personal interview is a logical and necessary part of the process of making hiring decisions. However, it can be filled with unethical and illegal questions. The simple truth about the job interview is that any question that tries to get at an individual’s personal attributes, orientations, or background is illegal. Employers cannot ethically or legally ask you about personal matters. The interview questions must be kept to job requirements and to the qualifications of the applicant for that job. There are specific things that cannot be asked in a job interview. In any situation, making race a factor in the hiring decision process is illegal. However, it is legal for an employer to ask an applicant if he or she is legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time...

...an orchestra of applause and accolades to motivate us in order to thrive in our endeavors. How we come to achieve our goals is based on motivations and effectiveness. Stephen Covey’s book, First Things First looks at time management strategies and how one can best achieve effectiveness and therefore succeed in obtaining their goals Covey’s approach to effectiveness works with two very important dynamics in mind illustrated by the clock and the compass. There has to be reasonable amount of resources available as we contend with our aspirations or else one will face stress and frustrations hindering one in their pursuits therefore some self analysis and planning is required. “Our struggle to put first things first can be characterized by the contrast between two powerful tools that direct us: the clock and the compass. The clock represents our commitments, appointments, schedules, goals, activities what we do with, and how we manage our time. The compass represents our vision, values, principals, mission, conscious, direction—what we feel is important and how we lead our lives.” (Covey 20) As Covey illustrates with the clock, time is a very important part of our lives. We live by schedules eat, sleep, work, play; there is much to do and often so little time to take it all on. Time is one of the biggest ideals instilled in us from childhood. School - aged children have tightly structured class time and times designated for play or eating, once home parents often......

Begin each day with a morning prayer or affirmation. Take Responsibility for Your Own Happiness Happiness does not depend on the behavior of others. Happiness isn’t something other people give to you. It’s a choice, one that you have to make for yourself. Be More Present in Each Moment Choose to be fully present now, in each moment, and gently stop your mind from racing ahead to what comes next, or reliving the moments that came before. The secret to happiness is to be happy right now. Logics for Peaceful Living Make peace with your past, so it doesn’t spoil your present In every situation or experience in your life, you can find valuable wisdom and learning. All you have to do is to open your eyes fully and dare to look for it instead of hanging on to the pain. Time heals almost everything. Give the time, some time Nothing last forever not even pain. So take your time to heal yourself and be patient. No one is the reason of your happiness. Except You – yourself No matter what other people say or do, they are not the reason of your happiness.
