...payments figures. The U.S. typically runs a trade surplus in services, which serves to offset the merchandise trade deficit. The United States is a major service trader. As shown in Figure 2-5, U.S. services exports in 2006 totaled approximately $424 billion. This represented slightly less than one-third of total U.S. exports. The U.S. services surplus stood at $80 billion. This surplus partially offset the U.S. merchandise trade deficit, which reached a record $838 billion in 2006. CHAPTER 3 THE GLOBAL TRADE ENVIRONMENT SUMMARY This chapter examines the environment for world trade, focusing on the institutions and regional cooperation agreements that affect trade patterns. The multilateral World Trade Organization, created in 1995 as the successor to the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade, provides a forum for settling disputes among member nations and tries to set policy for world trade. The world trade environment is also characterized by preferential trade agreements among smaller numbers of countries on a regional and subregional basis. These agreements can be conceptualized on a continuum of increasing economic integration. Free trade areas such as the one created by the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) represent the lowest level of economic integration. The purpose of a free trade area is to eliminate tariffs and quotas. Rules of origin are used to verify the country from which goods are shipped. A customs union (e.g. Mercosur)......

...languages referred to as XML. One common feature of all XML specifications is their extensible nature; another is their use as markup languages. So, XML consists of a series of descriptors added to various kinds of information that help users make sense of the information. As a specification of XML, XBRL is focused on descriptors of business reporting information-most often, accounting information. 3. Taxonomy: XBL is made up of several taxonomies, which, for the most part, are focused on specific industry groups. For example, the terminology that describes financial information in a manufacturing firm has some significant differences from financial terminology in a government entity. 4. Namespace: A namespace is like an XBRL dictionary. Remember what the X stands for: extensible. So if someone invents a new XBRL term, he or she has to let others know what it means. The meaning of the new term would reside in a namespace. Namespaces have internet addresses just like web pages. 5. Instance document: An instance document is a specific example of properly tagged XBRL information. For example, a publicly traded company like Microsoft might mark up its balance sheet with XBRL tags. The balance sheet, then, would be an instance document. Explain the history and structure of XBRL. The extensible business reporting language grew out of a need for increased efficiency in collecting, analyzing, and reporting financial information. XBRL is one specification of XML, the......

Xbox One Review

...Xbox One review – The right choice? New, Powerful, Controversial. All you need is in one box, Xbox One. Introduction When Microsoft first announced their next-gen console at E3 2013 current console hardware was becoming obsolete, which was made clear as newer games were pushing performance to the limit. Rumors were high that the next generation of consoles were going to be something completely different, and the Xbox One in its grand announcement at E3 met that criteria, different - not in a good way. Microsoft presented an Xbox not designed for gaming alone but for entertainment as a whole, this meant a complete reorder of priorities of the console. Gaming had to give way to TV, apps, internet, films, streaming and overall entertainment connectivity, your all in one multimedia box. Certainly innovative but with a slight problem of under-looking the core feature, gaming. Of course the onslaught that Microsoft faced after this announcement quickly made them change their ways, but the damage had been done and can still be seen with the disproportionate sales of the PS4 to Xbox One. The Xbox One out now however is a completely different case. With the realization that the Xbox user base is in the majority gamers, Microsoft quickly restructured their vision of the Xbox One. Always online requirement was scrapped, as was idea of disc-less gaming and a constantly working and watchful Kinect complied with its own system checks. In many ways the original concept was a huge leap......

...BUSI 101 To: Professor Fulbright From: Nandi Williams Date: April 2, 2016 Re: Case Study Chapter One Comments: 1. Should oil and gas companies be allowed to engage in fracking, or should the United States ban the practice? Should certain regulations be put in place? Defend your answer using examples from the text. Fracking, like many other business solutions is a catch 22 however, I think it is worth researching instead of banning it completely. Fracking seems to have quite a bit of benefits to our economy lowering the unemployment rate and creating 600,000 jobs. It also gives the US a leg up in natural gas production making us less reliable on foreign oil and other countries and making the US the lead in natural gas production. As a result, fracking is a way for the US to slow down our damage to the environment and is a way to grow our economy. For that reason, I believe it should still be an option for oil companies to venture into. I think with research as to how fracking can be done without damaging the earth’s tectonic plates and possibly finding sites far from residential homes where fracking can take place without hurting our other natural resources, the US can find a way to fracking an all around good resolution to two of our nations biggest problems. 2. While fracking might have flown under the radar during the Industrial Revolution, the relationship era requires companies to build long-term relationships with......
