Do you smoke? If you do it you never imagine the serious consequences that it would bring to your life. My Psychology class helped me to understand and think better about the damage of drugs, and how affect our central nervous system. Tobacco is a psychoactive drug with chemicals that affect our nervous system and, as a result, may alter consciousness and awareness, influence how we sense and perceive things, and modify our moods, feelings, emotions, and thoughts. In our days is very common to see people smoking; it is a widely used addictive drug, that alters cognitive processes, which include effects on attention and impulsivity, a mechanism that may contribute to the addictive properties of the drug.
Everyone have the right to think, analyze, and have their opinion, but I want to share with you a message, a story of my best friend where she suffered a disease and began a new life. All began a holiday day where our friends, among laughers, invited her to smoke her first cigarette and to learn like them. Then she came to smoke one after other cigarettes every day, until she gets to smoke three daily packs. Today I understand why she continued to smoke. She had an addiction to nicotine. My textbook said about addiction:” refers to a behavioral pattern of drug abuse that is marked by an overwhelming and compulsive desire to obtain and use drug; even after stopping, the person has a strong tendency to relapse and begin using the drug again”. My friend had become dependent to nicotine therefore she had become tolerant: “ tolerance means that after a person uses a drug repeatedly over a period of time, the original dose of the drug no longer produces the desire effect, so that a person must take increasingly larger doses of the drug to achieve the same behavioral effect”. She could not stop to smoke because her dependency to nicotine was too strong, “dependency refers to a change in the nervous system so that a person now needs to take the drug to prevent the occurrence of painful withdrawal symptoms.” She felt depressed and most when she knew that her life almost ended and he had withdrawal symptoms: “are painful physical and psychological symptoms that occur after a drug – dependent person using the drug”.
In 2005 she was diagnosed with lung disease and she had a surgery in the right lung removing the lower and middle lobes of her right lung. After a month of surgery she was an emergency and interned at the hospital because she got a pulmonary hypertension. She is alive today Thank a God and all people that gave her all the help and love, and she said “thanks” every day of her life for to have the most precious human: the life.
I invite you to stop smoking and think that your lives are worth more than a cigarette of any brand and size. Remember always, smoking is bad for your health because it produces a lot of damage and in extreme cases the death. It is necessary to maintain no-smoking laws in public places, any person who wish to smoke and relax can go to their own home where do not damage to nobody. Never is late, you can think about your life because your life is better than a cigarette.

Why You Shouldn’t Smoke

...Why You Shouldn’t Smoke There have been anti-smoking campaigns since the 1960s, and today the ads and commercials on TV are aimed more towards the youth culture—those who've not started smoking yet and might be around it—while commercials to stop the addiction to nicotine through patches and gums are geared towards the adults who've already become addicted. Not smoking is a very big issue as we can see from the proliferation of ads and commercials as well as the governmental involvement with tax-hikes on cigarettes to discourage smokers and the declaration of public places such as restaurants and shopping malls as smoke-free. There has been a stigma attached to those people who do smoke as can be witnessed by their division from the rest of the public into smoker areas. Everyone from the government to hospitals to movie stars, friends, and family claim smoking is a filthy habit one shouldn't start in on, and everyone gives very good reasons why someone shouldn't smoke, and I agree. The biggest reasons not to smoke concerns your health, the health of the people around you, the financial burden of buying cigarettes, cigars, and pipes and tobacco, and the health and beauty of the environment. One of the biggest reasons not to smoke that immediately comes to mind is health-related: "Cigarette smoking kills an estimated 264,000 men and 178,000 women in the United States each year" ("Tobacco"). Smoking has also been known to cause lung cancer, heart disease, and the chronic lung...

Do You Do Drugs

...anything else, too much of one thing is usually not good. I don’t really think it’s fair to compare caffeine to other illegal drugs because the negative impacts of caffeine are only prevalent if the user is taking in crazy amounts of it. Other drugs like heroin can cause lasting effects on somebody after one dose. Taking in high amounts of caffeine over a long period can cause bad results, but that’s why people need to learn self-control. My dad is a farmer and he drinks a cup of coffee in the morning and drinks a couple pops through the day. That’s way more caffeine then I take in during a regular day but I wouldn’t consider him addicted at all. He works long hours and sometimes needs that extra boost to get through the day. I do not think that we should tell children that caffeine is a drug simply because caffeine is in so many products that people enjoy. With that being said, I think we need to make sure kids limit their intake of caffeine. Children should not be drinking energy drinks because that’s more caffeine then they can handle and this is what is going to cause negative effects on them. I don’t think it’s a bad thing if a kid has a pop every once in a while but it should definitely be limited. I’m not going to be a teacher or coach but I think it’s us as adults that need to talk to kids about the dangers of caffeine. If they limit the amount they consume then there should not be a problem....

What Would You Do

...Emma Finney November 9, 2012 Mrs. Likin English 095 Summary: Today we watched video clips from ABC’s show “What would you do?” one of situations in the video was a woman with OCD with a condition of germ phobia. She had dropped her groceries on the floor and could not purchase them for she felt they were “dirty”. The cashier was playing a roll of a not so very understanding person. He kept implying that they were not dirty and that the food was fine, one customer in line tried to explain to that OCD is Obsession Compulsive Disorder and that once something isn’t right they mentally cannot handle it. In the second situation there was a man in a liquor store with his son purchasing alcohol for a party that his son was going to have. You could tell that the son was very uncomfortable with the whole thing and that the father was pressuring him. A bunch of people disagreed with the actions the father was taking. In the final scenario a woman was breast feeding her child that was at the age of four in a coffee shop. One of the actors was playing the role as a disgusted costumer in the coffee shop and was making a big scene asking the woman to do that elsewhere. A lot of customer didn’t seem to have an issue with the woman breast feeding her child in the open public. Critique: All the scenarios had good points to them, if I was the person in line at the grocery store I would have done the same thing that the woman had done while she was in line. Some people have...

How Do You Think

... HOW DO YOU THINK MARION HODLE LACKAWANNA COLLEGE ABSTRACT Are you a creative thinker? Can you be inspired to write or draw from a walk through a museum? Can you come up with a few good ideas from just lying in the grass at the park? If this is the way your mind works and how you go about solving problems then you’re a creative thinker. If you get inspirations or some of your best answers by looking up facts, reading up on subjects and linking information you already know to be true, you’re a critical thinker. Critical Thinking Critical thinking is the ability to think clearly and rationally. It’s a persons ability to engage in independent thinking. They can understand logical concepts between ideas, like linking thoughts. They can identify and construct arguments and detect common mistakes in reasoning over things. Creative thinking involves solving problems systematically. It also includes the identification and importance of ideas. Critical thinking can reflect on a person’s beliefs and values. Critical thinking is not based on how much a person knows. Even if you have a good memory and know a lot of facts it still does not mean you are a good critical thinker. A good critical thinker knows how to use his knowledge to solve problems and seek relevant sources of information. Critical thinking does not mean a person is critical or argumentative. It can also play a role in cooperation and reasoning. We use critical thinking to enhance our social situations. Some people...

Do You Have Jelly?

...TYPE/TOPIC OF JOURNAL: Do you have Jelly? JOURNAL CONTENT: Section 1 – Critical Incident The nurse that I was observing had taken her lunch and I decided to take this time to go ahead and log in to the computer and look into some of the records of the patients. I hear someone saying help, help. I look around and see no one except TCU students that are sitting at computers picking out their patients for the next day. So I quickly get up and head in to the room. This is not one of my patients, but it is a patient that I had helped with earlier. I head in and introduce myself again while asking the women what I can do to help her. She appears to be about 70 years of age and she is crying. I don’t see anything that appears to be physically hurting her so I ask her what is wrong and she says she is in pain, saying the worst pain she has ever been in. She says it’s as much pain as she was in when she came in. She says her catheter hurts. I know she doesn’t have one I helped take it out earlier. I tell her that she doesn’t have a catheter in anymore and that I am going to go get her nurse for her. She says okay thank you. I go to get the nurse and he is now sitting at a computer and I tell him the situation. He says, “Yeah I just gave her some pain meds and anxiety meds it should work in like 15 min or so.” He was not acting as if he was going to go in there. I say okay I will go let her know. I head back in the room and her hands are in the air and she is crying and......

What Do You Expect

...Courtney Gaylor GS1145 Charles Bozeman January 6, 2015 Most people have no clue as to what they're going to do with their lives and a lot of them do indeed turn out to be software engineers. Most software engineers do their jobs very poorly, many are average and a few are actually good, but everyone has a place in the industry. I am pursuing a degree at ITT Technical Institute in hopes of falling in the category of “actually good”. I feel that what I need to be successful is hands on learning. At ITT I plan to achieve a career, not just to float through life one “job” after another. A goal that I started to attain before leaving high school is developing the ability to see the value in maintaining a positive attitude, regardless of the circumstances. When I include my goal in the curriculum, I have a better understanding on how positive words, positive character traits and positive thinking can impact life immediately now and in the future. Another goal of mine is to be happy. To be happy is the most important thing there is because you only have one life and if you go through it fighting, competing and struggling you have wasted your one life. Being a human on this planet is like winning the lotto and if people would act that way we could all help each other and try to make the time we have not be a waste. I think that's my ultimate goal... I don't know that it's everyone's, if it's THE ultimate goal or even if there is a THE ultimate goal. Also I was thinking that......

If You Can Dream It, You Do It

...IF YOU CAN DREAM IT, YOU CAN DO IT...!! In childhood, we all have had many crazy dreams. But how many of us would really go behind those dreams and pursue them?? Time changes everything. And very few follow their dreams. It’s not that they forget their dreams, but the fear in them, pulls them back from pursuing their dreams. The courage they had in their childhood to do anything and everything is lost, the innocence is lost forever. They forget to think how much happiness it would bring into their life rather they are more concerned with what others would think if they follow their dreams. Even I have a dream, dream to be different. To stand out from the crowd, and to do things which no one ever had thought about. I always wanted to try those things which no one ever dared to do, because that helps me to know more and better of myself. I never followed anyone, because I never wanted to do the exact things what others did in their life. I wanted to be different, different from what others do and think. For me doing things differently, always means discovering myself, knowing more about myself, because what I always believe is, “if we want to do something different, we have to do that one thing which we feel we can’t do. Sometimes we may fail, but then we can proudly say, I’M DIFFERENT.” And for me the most daring thing is to be myself and to do exactly what I want to do at that point in time and not to be worried with what other people think or are doing. Yes I know......
