The purpose of this CQ Feedback Report is to increase your awareness and understanding of Cultural Intelligence (CQ).

CONTENTS OF THE REPORT
The report includes personal feedback on how you described yourself and how others described themselves. This information will allow you to compare your own responses with those of others who have completed the assessment. The report concludes with a personal development section that will guide you in preparing and IMPLEMENTING a personal CQ development plan that can help you to build on your CQ strengths and further develop your overall cultural intelligence.

The Museum I chose to visit was the Philadelphia Museum of Art, I have always wanted to visit this particular museum and I hope that I will. Of these the ones that made an impression on me were: 1. “Virgin and child with Angel” painted in 1642 by Simon Vouet in France. This portrays a virgin half sitting, half crouching with a cherubic infant on her hips while her focus was on the basket of fruits that she was eating from, oblivious of the angel to her right that was playing with the infant in her arms. In this research paper, the role of EI in determining leadership effectiveness was reviewed to explain emotional characteristics specific to five countries: Nigeria, Mexico, Russia, Argentina, and China. These countries were included in a study called Project Globe. GLOBE is the acronym for Global Leadership and Organizational Behavior Effectiveness. In this study, four cultural clusters were utilized, and the role of emotional intelligence was evaluated in determining leadership effectiveness. Emotional Intelligence was appraised more favorably than technical skills and cognitive skills, especially when referring to social skills, and transformational/charismatic leaderships were preferred across cultures. The intent of the collaborative effort of Team 4 was to explore the cultural values and practices in five different countries and to identify their impact on organizational practices and leadership attributes. ...What is cultural intelligence? “Cultural intelligence is a theory within management and organizational psychology which states that understanding the impact of an individual’s cultural background on their behavior is essential for effective business, and measuring an individual’s ability to engage successfully in any environment or social setting.” (Wikipedia) One’s cultural intelligence (or cultural quotient) includes three components that work together: cognitive, emotional, and physical. The cognitive component involves a person’s observational and learning skills and the ability to pick up on clues and understanding the subtleties of others. The emotional component concerns one’s self-confidence and self-motivation; gaining rewards and strength from acceptance and success. The physical component refers to a person’s ability to shift his or her speech patterns, expressions, and body language to be in tune with people from a different culture; using your senses and adapting your movements and body language to blend in. These are as follows: 1. Intelligence tests unfairly categorize students by race, gender, class and culture. 2. Propagates the idea that people are born with an unchangeable endowment of intellectual potential that determines their success in life. 3. Practitioners want tests that can help them design interventions that will actually improve students’ learning. My Reaction As I read this article, my eyes were focused on the “one size fit all” mentality that exists in most of our Jamaican classrooms. The reality is that many of our students are left behind due to the advent of standardized intelligence testing which focuses on the product instead of the process. I believe standardized intelligence testing has its part to play, but in a holistic sense, it is ineffective and should be removed from the education system. One can reflect on the many students who are said to “fail or underperform” in the Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT) each year to clearly understand that this form of testing must give way to something that is more holistic and student friendly, which focuses on the many steps the student had to take to reach where he is at. After inputting the museum’s address I into my phone, Google Maps routed me through the Brentwood area of Los Angeles. The area seems very affluent as I passed several large homes with private gates. I followed the directions and eventually arrived at the Getty Center parking garage. There is a tram that runs from the parking garage to the museum. The tram was very clean and had a very modern feel. The tram ride is very scenic and the views of Los Angeles are incredible as you climb the mountain towards the museum. The Freedom Walk or Freedom March took place during the Albany Movement where protesters marched from the church to City Hall with hopes of ending segregation.
