... The Impact of market orientation on business performance and website adoption: a study among iranian smeS Yasaman Darabi Division of Industrial Marketing and E-commerce, Tarbiat Modares University, Tehran, Iran ABSTRACT Studying the impact of market orientation on business performance has been a popular research topic in recent years. However, there seems to be a lack of empirical studies that measure market orientation in an e-commerce environment. According to previous studies market orientation is a prerequisite for a successful business operation, but actually there is not enough evidence in support of this relationship in an Iranian context and particularly about the impact of market orientation on the perception of managers toward having websites. To test these assertions, this study looks into the nature of the relationships between market orientation, company performance and website adoption using 117 website adopters and 102 non-website adopters as sample data from Iranian SMEs. Narver and Slater’s scale (MKTOR) for market orientation, Weerakoon’s Multi-Model Performance Framework (MMPF) for business performance and Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) for website adoption are tested and used. Confirmatory factor analysis was used to validate the measures in the study. Regression analysis was performed to determine whether market orientation is associated with firm’s performance and website adoption using the Partial Least Square (PLS) technique. Our findings suggest...

Clinical Informatics

... Analysis of the Clinical Informatics Job Description Ann Miller American Sentinel University Analysis of the Clinical Informatics Job Description What is an Informatics Nurse, an Nurse Informaticist? When people ask me what job that I do and I reply “Informatics”, they get an interesting look on their face. The look is of concern and of that is not what a nurse does. The public is not educated in what this position’s importance really is and that is too bad. What is a typical day like for an informatics nurse like myself? That question is easy. There are no typical days! I can honestly say that this is what I like about my job position. Some days I am going to staff meetings where I am educating on a new process to a page from the floor that a provider needs my help. I have many computer classes to teach for staff, nursing students, providers, and soon 80 or so high school students who will be joining us for the next seven months to learn patient basic care and documentation. In my spare time- I do get some from time to time, I have many projects that I am working on to optimize the electronic medical record. The projects can be getting rid of any paper processes that remain and doing whatever it takes to get them all electronic from the development of provider order sets (Powerplans), to nursing processes, and education. You cannot forget about the education. Education has to come in many formats, including group settings (staff meetings),......

Value Orientations

...* Value Orientations in Our School Campus and Barangay Values are the elements of life prevailing in a society. They are the rules by which we make decisions about right and wrong, should and shouldn't, good and bad. They also tell us which are more or less important, which is useful when we have to trade off meeting one value over another. They provide motivation and ground for choice. They shape and determine individual and group’s decision to like or dislike and change or not change something. Thus, knowing people’s value orientation will guide planners, administrators, policy-makers, and agents responsible in implementations of laws and programs. Every individual, social group and institution has its own value orientation. What is value orientation? Value orientation is the principle of right and wrong that are accepted by an individual or a social group. It is a system of principles governing morality and acceptable conduct. In our school, Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University, various value orientations are present. Students are able to accept responsibility for their own behavior. Definitions of responsibility stem from a shared community understanding, and responsibilities are taught explicitly across the curriculum. The school recognized that the acceptance of responsibility for behavior is developmental and is dependent on students having opportunities to discuss and practice appropriate behavior. Students learn to accept responsibility when they are......

Market Orientations

...(a) Identify and briefly discuss SIX business orientations. Business organisations basically exist to provide products and to maximise profits. But there can be a marked difference in their approach to do business depending on the orientations they modulate their business strategy. The following six business orientations are discussed hereunder: (a) Production orientation: Here the main focus is on the production and management ensures that there is enough capacity to mass produce and whatever is produced it is sold at a relatively low price. Consumers are sensitive to prices and there is less costs associated with advertising and promotion of the goods. Competition is almost inexistent. An example is the production and sale of tomatoes. Whatever amount is produced it is sold on the marketplace. (b) Product orientation: Here management decides to produce a product and production is undertaken without any assessment through proper research techniques being made whether the product is needed or not. Management has at least ensured that the quality and design of the product is good. This type of business orientation is quite risky as it can fail on the market if people do not need it nor are willing to use it in spite of marketing strategies being undertaken. (c) Sales orientation: This concept underpins the need to canalize all energies towards selling the product. The particular product is made available to consumers and salespersons use aggressive selling......

I will give a brief description of my motives and traits I use as a leader. Finally, I will discuss how I can improve my effectiveness as a leader in my future leadership roles. Personal Leadership Orientation I am an Air Force First Sergeant. According to the Enlisted Force Structure, “First Sergeants provide a dedicated focal point for all readiness, health, morale, welfare, and quality of life issues within their organizations. At home station and in expeditionary environments, their primary responsibility is to build and maintain a mission-ready force to execute home station and expeditionary mission requirements” (United States. Department of the Air Force, 2009, p. 17). To do this job effectively, it takes some level of emotional intelligence. I am very self-aware and this allows me to understand my strengths and weaknesses. According to DuBrin (2010) by utilizing this awareness, I can recognize effectively whether I am liked and if I am exerting the right amount of pressure to get tasks completed and reach mission accomplishment (p. 45). I also have a high social awareness. It takes a certain level of empathy to listen to others and help solve issues, while showing that I care. Sexual Orientation

...between man and woman. Sexual orientation has been something that scientist and psychologist have been trying to discover a logical answer on how and why. There have been many theories developed on the different types of sexual orientations and what makes a person have these types of feeling toward same gender. There has never been an answer to this question that has so many wondering. Some believe this could be how the child may be raised, or is this a specific gene that a person is born with, maybe even some type of chemical/hormonal imbalances. Overall it just seems to come down to who you are as a person and that shouldn’t be determined by society or scientist. Sexual Orientation Sexual orientation can be a set of physical and emotional attractions and interest that will attract both sexually and romantically to other people. There are three sexual orientations straight, gay or bisexual. Research has shown that adolescence and young adulthood go thru some stages such as sexual orientation identity (Kelly, 2010). It has been anticipated that sexual orientation and sexual identity that once they are established and accepted that it will remain steady for the rest of life. This does not indicate that people will wake up and one morning they are in a new sexual orientation or identify such as suddenly becoming gay or straight. Alfred Kinsey conducted a research in 1940’s, what an individual had done sexual was assumed to be their sexual orientation. Early in his research......

Marketing Orientation

...is meant by a Marketing Orientation and whether this is a successful model in todays’ marketing industry. Marketing is the actions undertaken by a business to sell products or provide services to consumers. Marketing encompasses every way in which consumers perceive business and includes all methods used to generate sales. As suggested by Peter Vessenes (2003:30), ‘’Cash may be king, but marketing is everything’’. Marketing can be defined in many ways however one of the most predominant definitions used today is: ‘’ Marketing is a social and managerial process by which individuals and groups obtain what they need and want through creating and exchanging products and value with others’’ ( Kotler et al.,1999; Addock et al 2001) Marketing is in summary, all the activities used in negotiating the passing of goods and services between the producers and consumers. The concept of marketing has evolved over time. Businesses orientate their marketing strategies around different components. Whilst in today’s business world the marketing orientation is most the most favourable method of marketing this has not always been the case and is still not the only orientation used. Generally speaking the marketing orientation is viewed as having evolved from three prior developmental orientations therefore it is worth considering each type of orientation which has been prominent previously. To begin there was the Production orientation. The focus of this orientation is to mass produce......

Marketing Orientation

...A Short Note on Market Orientation Market orientation (MO) is one of the most visible phrases in marketing, especially in the MBA and MSc courses on marketing. In many ways it has become an umbrella term (and thus in danger of losing its effectiveness), and is sometimes confused with the marketing concept, customer satisfaction, customer orientation etc. Even though there might be an overlap with the latter terms, this short, friendly note will define MO more precisely and set it in the context of top academic research, especially since 1990. Origins: The Marketing Concept Some highly popular textbooks claim MO is synonymous with the marketing concept. For example, one of most popular marketing texts notes in the first chapter that “the marketing concept is often referred to as ‘market orientation’”. This might have been the case till 1990, but ever since, we distinguish between the two terms. Drucker (1954) may have been one of the first theorists to suggest that creating satisfied customers was the only valid definition of business purpose. Webster (1988) summarized the marketing concept by noting that “executives must put the interests of the customer at the top of the firm’s priorities.” You may like to think of it as a kind of a philosophy, a belief, an ideal, a policy statement, or even a normative statement. Market Orientation In 1990, two seminal papers were published in the Journal of Marketing, which defined and operationalized MO by creating two......
