Being a college student is truly an exhilarating, exciting, but also tiresome choice, I have made the decision to go back to college for the third and final time. It truly does seem as though it has gotten harder and harder to be a student over the years, and now I have the opportunity to reflect upon why this seems to be the case. After taking somewhat of a hiatus from school, I was given the idea from above, the strength from within, and the support of my family, friends, and co-workers to go back to college for my masters in what I have finally found to be my true passion. As a social case worker I will have the opportunity to work with battered and abused woman and children, and be given the opportunity to help law enforcement prosecute those you have offended. Being a single mother of five wondrous children and the opportunity to be the mother figure in so many other children’s lives has given me the foresight, the working knowledge as well, as the wisdom and compassion to help woman and children who have been victimized. The reason that I made this decision to go back to school to receive my masters degree comes from a multitude of facets. From all of my children supporting me emotionally, my fiancé supporting me in every way that a man should, to the support from the rest of my family friends, I felt as though it was more simply put, just my calling to do this. Although there are so many positive outcomes I can foresee from this decision, as with all other life changing decisions we make, there are always effects, sometimes with the appearance of being negative. One of these being simply my time, because time is truly so precious, I originally felt as though it wasn’t fair to my family, especially my two teenage daughters to take on this extra load of school, yet not surprisingly, they are all so supportive of me. Another effect that enrolling in college has had on my life, is a very positive one, it has made my children and most of their friends look at me differently. This is due to the fact that as a mother, and a role model, they all see me continuing to take care of my personal responsibilities as a mother, an employee, and even simply as a friend to so many, it has given them all inspiration, and drive to do better in their schoolwork, and careers because they see me juggling a very busy life. Finally, but certainly not of least importance is the drain on me of having such a busy lifestyle. As I said I am a fulltime mother first, then a fulltime student, and also a part time employee, so it goes without saying, that I burn a lot of my nighttime candles staying caught up with all of my responsibilities. So the question I ask myself is, is it all worth it. Because being a college student is truly an exhilarating, exciting, but also tiresome choice, and I have made the decision to go back to college for the third and final time. So my answer is yes, the positive outcomes of this decision far outweigh the possible less positive, so I will continue to push forward, strive for success, and will be the social case worker that is my passion.

...use Cause and Effect: The day I fainted “I look like a normal, well-adjusted 15-year-old high school sophomore. I like talking to friends on the phone, riding my bike, watching TV, and spending time with my boyfriend. I make above average grades and like English and Music classes the best. However, about a year ago, my weight dropped to 72 pounds. I lay in a hospital bed with unkempt hair, fragile limbs and a sunken face. I was seriously ill. The villainous disease was not cancer or AIDS. I had anorexia, a condition which afflicts many teens and young adults, especially young women.” - Me Still to this day I am not sure how I had gotten to that point. The point where I was so focused on being skinny, on being part of the in-crowd. I can blame it on many things like, how I was new to the private school life, or that I was in my first “serious” relationship that in itself was super unhealthy for me in the sense that he lowered my confidence. What it all boils down to though was, I had simply hit my low-point in my life. Somehow though it got so bad that I just couldn’t deal with it anymore, mentally or physically, my body just gave up on me; and I ended up in the hospital. Anorexia is a type of eating disorder who has an intense fear of gaining weight. They severely limit the amount of food they eat and can become dangerously thin. Most people are not aware of the effects they will face during their life, when they do not keep a personal budget. Most people are generally thrown into the real world when it comes to spending money. Some people are not concerned with the amounts they spend. The effects of not keeping a personal budget can be, but are not limited to not having any saving for unexpected expenses, going into debt or bankruptcy, causing intensified stress on a household, and the lack of responsibility which causes over spending. The biggest effect that can come from not keeping a personal budget is not having a savings fund for unexpected expenses. Everyone should have a savings fund. No one knows when an unexpected emergency will occur, such as a broken down car or hospital visit. This would be an ideal time when having a savings fund would be a great solution. According to Min Punyerr, “Emergency is a serious event that will need immediate action… any emergency that happens with no money in pocket or savings will be devastating.” (Punyerr). Punyerr continues on to explain an example of an emergency that happened to herself. Her car was repossessed, and her home was foreclosed. This forced Punyerr to live in a van by a river because she did not have a personal budget. Not keeping a personal budget will make it very hard for...

...comes with a consequence however; the causes and effects of unemployment are very potent in life. For example, an individual may lack the proper skills for the hand at task so their job will be terminated. The same goes for if they are absent often or late; that will not be tolerated. A person is considered unemployed if they are fired from their job due to budget cuts and they are in waiting to get their job back. As well, there may be an abundance of workers but not enough jobs to match; or the mirror opposite may occur; there are plenty of jobs but workers do not have the right skills or experience to work for the job. Either way, unemployment will begin to rise steadily, and this will not help the world’s economy get better. Younger individuals tend to have more issues finding jobs, and this aids the unemployment; the younger individuals usually have lack of experience and then they cannot find jobs; in turn they cannot earn the proper experience to receive better jobs. With the younger generation not being able to find jobs, they tend to turn to the streets in a negative way, stealing, become drug dealers and users, alcoholics, etc. Individuals lose their income if businesses close down, if businesses are declared bankrupt or individuals are too sick to work. Wrong investment plans also cause unemployment; a bad decision can cause one to miss an opportunity of employment. Taking out a loan on the business and failing to pay causes for a bank take over and the close......

Some of them are extremely crazy and some are hilarious. The first time I met Bandar, a mutual friend introduced me to him, to give him a ride home. On that day, I knew a lot about him. His interests, the way he thinks, his family, and especially his anger issues. He is hot-tempered. His angry actions cannot be controlled, always get us into a bad situation, but we learned a lot from him. First, I learned to control myself in many situations because of him. He does not care about what he say or do to others; he just expresses himself without thinking of the consequences. Many people were bothered and even fought with him because his actions. However, both our friends and I know how to deal with him. In time, we could help him controlling his anger problems. Nevertheless, sometimes we cannot do anything but leave him alone to think and relax. That at least what we could do to a friend. Second, he taught me how important is to continue my education. Cause and Effect

...The poem “Cause And Effect” written by Charles Bukowski is a very interesting poem about people that commit suicide and those they leave behind. I personally think this is a gloomy poem because death is usually a depressing topic. The poem starts out with, “the best often die by their own hand” I like how it starts out this way making those who take their life look like the best. I think it is interesting how it starts out kind of talking about those people and then changes to talking about the people they leave behind. Something that I noticed while reading this poem was that it is all in lowercase letters with no punctuation other than one comma. Then the poet says they do this ”just to get away” which is interesting because it makes you think why someone would just want to get away so much that they take their own life. “And those left behind can never quite understand why anybody would ever want to get away from them” I think that this last part of them poem really makes you think. I think people often do think this when someone they love takes their own hand however, the poet says they”just want to get away” which doesn’t necessarily mean away from anyone. I think this poet is kind of trying to show how people are very egocentric, even when someone takes their own life people relate it back to themselves. Also, people often times think that when someone takes their own life it is very selfish of them, but like the poem says those left behind don’t understand why someone......

Cause and Effect

...Determining Cause and Effect 3.3 Revision version Tracy Bass Professor Patricia Hoerr English 115 “The American Dream” primarily consists of homeownership, raising a family comfortably and investing in the future. To most, obtaining a college degree is viewed as a gateway to “the American Dream”. With a college education being the gateway, that many set out to get a college degree. However, it is not an easy task to achieve and does not come without its fair share of stress. The primary stress in the lives of today’s college students is caused by academic pressures, financial issues and their social lives. The major cause stress in college is the academic demands, particularly during the first year. It’s no secret that many college students spend most of their time on campus stressed out. Balancing classes, tests, projects, extra-curricular activities and work is enough to make anyone feel overwhelmed (Driscoll, 2011). The workload of the freshman college student is a drastic change from the workload they experienced while in high school. The radical shift causes major distress for the students. Freshman students experience problems dealing with the academic independence of setting their class schedules and studying times. The stress is extended further as students have to deal with studying harder and for longer hours to prepare for rigorous exams. In addition, the students have to adjust to new and more precise writing styles and expectations required of......

Life; Cause and Effect

...Romuald Jean Lori Bouzane ENG3UR May 2nd, 2014 Life; cause and effect. The past is, simply, a point in time that has already occurred; unfortunately, more often than none, the past plays a detrimental role to both the present and the future. This may not always be the case, nevertheless, it is impossible to completely escape one’s past; what has happened and one’s past actions will always be significant. The bestselling novel ‘The Memory Keeper’s Daughter,’ illustrates the impact of the past throughout the entire story. Kim Edwards uses her story and her characters to demonstrate that one’s past decisions and actions are inescapable. The author uses the narrative of the story to indicate that David, Norah and Caroline have all been deeply influenced by their pasts either negatively or positively. To begin, David spends his life paying penance for his shortcomings in the past. Upon returning from his performance, Paul’s parents annoy him which causes him to sneak out, David catches up to him and they began to drive back home. Whilst in the car, Paul confronts David for turning a blind eye to the infidelity of Norah; ‘“You don’t even give a damn about that Howard guy.”’ (Edwards p. 200) Moreover, David confesses that he is aware of the events that occurred between Norah and Howard; David behaves as though he is unaware for he is certain that this affair is a direct result of the decision he made thirteen years ago. David does not confront Norah in an attempt to repent......

Causes & Effects of Stress in College Students

...Informative Essay    Causes & Effects of Stress in College Students Tracy Thomas   Professor Evans   ENG 115   March 20, 2014     "The World Health Organization (WHO) Global Burden of Disease Survey estimates that mental disease, including stress-related disorders, will be the second leading cause of disabilities by the year 2020" (World Health Organization: 1990).  In today's fast paced society it is common for people to experience stress in various aspects of their lives.  Due to the ever evolving and increasing amounts of responsibilities the average college student has to manage on a daily basis, there is an urgent need for appropriate stress management skills in the following main causes of stress in a college student’s life:  personal, academic, and financial.  Let's further clarify these areas.  Personal - balance of family and social life; academic - challenge of maintaining mandatory GPA; financial - stress of the cost of education and the need to garner and maintain gainful employment to cover these costs.   Academic success is contingent upon the student's ability to properly manage these top causes of stress by implementing a regiment of academic time management, dietary and social health wellness routines, and by consistently harnessing available resource networks. Let’s consider how the effects of stress impact the economy. Although the term "stress" is used in a wide variety of contexts, it has consistently been......

...Assignment 3.1: Determining Causes and Effects – Draft Version English 115 Known as the Laurentian Great Lakes for its connection to the St. Lawrence River, the lakes combined make up nearly 20 percent of the world's fresh water (Latham, Wright, & Tsang, n.d.) Lakes Erie, Huron, Michigan, Ontario, and Superior are 5 lakes that provide food, jobs, and recreation to the surrounding regions reaching into two countries. The New York Times (2010) also estimate more than 30 million people are the recipient of potable water from the lakes. With over 3.2 million harvestable fish worth an estimated 4.8 million dollars, Lake Huron is important to the fishing industry. According to McCrimmon (2002), Lake Huron alone has over 117 species of fish. Lake Huron, as well as the other great lakes, is also polluted. For this essay, pollution is the injection of biological or non-biological elements into Lake Huron which are detrimental to the health of the lake and its inhabitants. Sewage, along with additional factors and with far reaching effects, is the primary cause of the decline of the various benefits the lake provides; it is harmful and potentially fatal to people, jobs, the economy, and of course, the aquatic life and wildlife of the Lake Huron area. There are quite a few types of pollution which are damaging Lake Huron. Industrial sewage and waste may be, arguably, the most damaging cause of pollution. As the world has been increasingly competitive, each person just has to struggle for what is best for him or her. Especially for parents, they all aspire to see their children successful in their lives. The offspring are pushed to study hard in order to get into a reputable university. In many Asian countries, the pressure to perform on high-stakes college entrance examinations and academic competitions is so high that it puts an anxious pressure on many students.
