The government’s main argument for the casino is increased revenue leading to a boost in the economy.

Currently, Singapore’s revenue comes from high tech electronics manufacturing, pharmaceuticals and finance. These industries are starting to slow. According to Reuters Singapore employment in the manufacturing sector has dropped 9% since 1990. In 2004, 14 per 1,000 were laid off in the manufacturing sector and 8.5 per 1,000 in the services sector.

The government’s alternative has been to reverse a 4 decade ban on casino’s to help the Singapore economy.

The majority of the focus in the long term is from tourism and the flow on effects of tourism such as hospitality, food, retail, taxi, conventions and aviation. The government fears that a steady decline in tourism is already happening. The Prime Minister in his ministerial statement on April 18 2005 said:

“First, we are losing ground in tourism. Tourism in Asia is growing phenomenally, especially the traffic from China and India. Singapore’s tourist numbers are up too, but we see warning signs of problems ahead. Our market share is declining (from 8% in the Asia Pacific region in 1998 to 6% in 2002). Tourists are spending less time in Singapore. They used to stay an average of about 4 days in 1991, but now they stay only for 3 days. In contrast, on average, they are staying for about 4 days in Hong Kong, 5 days in London and almost a week in New York City. We are losing attractiveness as a tourist destination”.

In 2004, Singapore earned US$6 billion from 8.3 million tourists. Tourism currently accounts for 3% of Singapore’s GDP, it needs to be at 7% if it is to be a real growth driver. By 2015, Singapore is aiming at 17 million tourists which alone will bring in US$18 billion.

It is predicted that by 2010, Asians will spend $23 billion on gambling, and Singapore wants it share.

In this matter JC’s Casino would need to spend a tremendous amount of time gathering information such as social economics, general population of the area, statistical backgrounds to crimes and the types of clients and consumers that would be brought to the company. In order for JC’s Casino to be productive it needs to have excellent management who can and is able to motivate and keep the staff happy and satisfied with upper management as well as the company. Spector (2012) stated, “Motivation is generally defined as an internal state that induces a person to engage in particular behaviors which has to do with directions, intensity, and persistence of behavior over time” (200). Motivation Theories and Improving Employment Recruitment and Retention According to Spector (2012) there are about nine different motivation work theories for the purpose of this paper the main two that will be focused on are the self-efficacy theory and reinforcement theory. Talltree2 Casino Hotel

... SKY CITY HOTEL CASINO The Sky City Hotel Casino is a 640‐room resort complex featuring a full range of Nevada‐ style gaming: slot machines, table games (twenty‐one, craps, poker, roulette, baccarat and keno). Besides the hotel and casino, it also has four separate restaurants, two entertainment showrooms, and three gift shops. It is located in an extremely competitive market that includes 25 other hotel casino properties within a 10‐mile radius. Given the competitive market, the casino management uses a wide range of marketing promotions to attract customers to the casino facilities where, it is hoped, they will try their luck at the slots or table games. Casinos are designed in such a way that customers must walk through or past the gaming area to get to the restaurants or the hotel registration area. The primary objective of a hotel casino property is to keep a gaming customer in the complex. The casino industry is a unique service industry that has created gaming odds that over a period of time will result in the casino generating revenues from its customers. For example, in this region, the house normally keeps 2.1% of every dollar that a player puts into a slot machine. Other states and Indian properties can retain up to 12% of each dollar played. For table games the normal return is 12% of drop (money lost by players). To maximise the casino profits, the key...

Building Casino

...countries starting to build casinos, the issue of whether it is benefited or harmful to the population has been brought into focus. Now it is commonly held that building casinos officially will trigger a lot of tragedies and social unrest, but I conceive differently. Not only can it bring many economic benefits, but also it can solve some social problems. The first reason contributing to the common opinion is that people have more chances to gamble and take great risks to get the opportunity to get rich in one fell swoop. As a result, they may lose their shirts then they are highly indebted. Even more, gamblers may engage in the activities of theft and robbery to get bookies. However, the serious consequences by addiction of gambling should not be justifiable reasons to stop governments to build casinos. It is a matter of individual unsteady will. If the thing which makes you addicted or has some risks and speculations should not be allowed, stocks, property markets and so on, likewise should be banned. Actually, people can realize that life is full of risks through gambling which is an early warning to life as long as you can handle it. Another argument from supporters of common opinion is that gambling occupies a part of labor force, which impacts on production and causes economic loss. Nonetheless, building casinos can increase new jobs for unemployed people, reducing the factors of social unrest, and can reduce national burden since domestic casinos prevent huge......

Although based on the actual lives of gangsters Frank “Lefty” Rosenthal and Tony “The Ant” Spilotro, screenwriters Scorsese and Nicholas Pileggi opted to take enormous liberties with the historical data on the two men. The resulting disclaimer, confusing and seemingly selfcontradictory, reflects Postmodernism’s lack of faith in......

...Casinos and their effect on the economy Casinos just like any other business entity are opened with the sole purpose of making money. Protagonists of their existence realize this fact and only hide the true intentions with the promise of jobs and economic prosperity. Because of this we evaluate them on their economic merit. Resource drain When studying the economic impact, some things crop up. The majority of the studies has reported a slight growth in job creation and increased economic activity. The most significant is the source of capital to operationalise the casino and its target client. When the source of capital is foreign and the client is local two things may happen. More growth is realized as profits are put into productive courses within the locality or profits are taken back to the source. In most cases, they go back to the sources. Gambling, which is the prime service offered by the casino has no economic merit since there is no good or service being produced although it is consumed. It is not like music or film where production takes place and therefore, money foregone by the customer to consume or save for another purpose and spent on gambling is considered economically lost. The multiplier effect of jobs created against the negative impact that other real goods and service industry suffer within the locality is not comparable as was observed by Dunstan (2007). Social costs of addiction and mental related issues However much any study would want......

Secret in Casino

Opposing Casinos in Penang

...Opposing Casinos in Penang Over the recent years, gambling has been defined as wagering of something with value on the aftermath of an event governed by an unavoidable segment of prospect for a reward with capital value, Gainsbury et al (2006). In addition to that, Eaves (2001) defined gambling as: “A simple definition of gambling would be, desiring the possession or possessions of another (prize) the gambler creates a risk (that of losing his own possession) in an attempt through chance to gain the possession or possessions of another with nothing given in exchange… It may be five thousand or five dollars, it may be fifty cents or one cent — the principle is the same, only the amount differs”. During a gambling session, cash is commonly wagered and won or lost or each of two directly through cash transactions, or discursively through tokens, credits and chips which have capital value. All other forms of entertainment joints are drawn in provisions of revenue through the gambling industry. Based on Mizerski’s (2012) gambling theory, industries correlated with gambling are now operational in most of the countries in Asia as well as in Western countries. The gambling industry’s activities are wide and international in scope. The author also stated that the biggest area of user entertainment revenue is represented by legal gambling world-wide and it even dwarfs other modes of entertainment such as the theme parks, music and movies. Ndubisi et al (2012) contend that gambling...

Casino Competition Heats Up

...Malaysian billionaire Lim Kok Thay said he wants to raise his stake in Australia’s Echo Entertainment Group Ltd., and invest in Japan and Macau casinos if licenses become available. Genting Hong Kong Ltd., one of the Asian gaming companies Lim controls, has applied to local regulators to increase its holding in the operator of Sydney’s only casino to above 10 percent and is now waiting for a decision, the executive said in an interview today in Kuala Lumpur. Echo shares rose the most in six weeks. “We are just patiently waiting” for regulators in New South Wales and Queensland states to make a decision, said Lim, Malaysia’s third-richest man according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. “My guess is it will go on for a while.” The Genting group of companies has been expanding abroad, from the Bahamas to Manila, amid restrictions on gaming back home in Muslim-majority Malaysia, where it operates the country’s only casino on a hilltop. Gambling is forbidden for Muslims in the Southeast Asian nation as it is considered unethical under Islam. Genting Malaysia Bhd., one of Lim’s five listed companies, will spend at least 3 billion ringgit ($937 million) over five years to upgrade the local resort, the 61-year-old Harvard University-educated businessman told reporters in Kuala Lumpur today. It will add 1,300 hotel rooms and spend 400 million ringgit transforming its theme park after signing a licensing agreement with Fox, he said. Echo Entertainment rose 2.7......

Also, many places have been starting to prohibit smoking in public or semipublic, like school, mall, airport or restaurant. It is obvious that people pay regard to the question of smoking. People think smoking will affect our health. Admittedly, smoking is not good for couples of reasons, but not in a casino. Smoking in casinos should not be banned by three reasons. First of all, smoking should not be banned because casinos need customers. Undoubtedly, smoking is not good for people, but In fact there are lots of customers smoking. If casinos prohibit smoke, then casino must lost lots of money. In addition, casinos employees who work long time in casino will inhale secondhand smoke all the time. It is not fair to the employees. But in fact employees are here to serve customers with the best, they also get pay more than jobs which out of casinos, so they should sacrifice themself to inhale secondhand smoke.
