Brown Marine Supply Corporation

...Issues Faced by Brown Marine Supply Company Brown Marine Supply Company (“Brown Marine”), over the previous five months, from March to July 1967, experienced significant changes in their company’s financial situation. Specifically, the company has seen diminishing cash levels in addition to having difficulty paying early for their purchases and collecting from sales made to other businesses on credit. Brown Marine’s owner, Mr. Brown, is considering expanding the company’s operations through the purchase of land and subsequent construction of a facility to support an expanded yacht service center, refueling facilities, and a new showroom to replace their currently leased building. Understanding the various scenarios related to a forecast of sales, purchases, and receivable collections are important in order to determine the viability of both the company’s ability to remain cash positive and the feasibility of using cash to support the expansion project. Forecasting Brown Marine’s Future A forecast of both the remainder of 1967 and the next calendar year was completed and can be seen in Exhibit 1. This primary forecast of sales was developed to follow a cyclical nature, where the greatest sales were during the summer months and the lowest sales occurred off-season. From this initial forecast, a second, worst-case scenario forecast, Exhibit 2, was generated with 10% less sales, collections, and purchases. This is hardly surpris- ing since the market consists of a large number of competing actors who can gain from acting upon better interpretations of the future than those of their rivals. See, for example, Scholes (1967); and footnote 4 above. This evaluation of the security market differs sharply from that of Chambers (1966, pp. 272-73). 6 More precisely, we focus on information not common to all firms, since some in- dustry effects are not considered in this paper. 7Alternatively, 35 to 40 per cent could be associated with effects common to all firms when income was defined as tax-adjusted Return on Capital Employed. Cupcake Brown

...Kendyl Elwell 4/4/13 GNDR 3337 A Piece of Cake By: Cupcake Brown Cupcake Brown. Her life started out as a tragic tale, but led to be a beautiful outcome. Cupcake’s life as we are told, begins at twelve years old when she finds her mom has died over night due to a seizure. After her mother died, her world got turned upside down. Her admiration for her mother was demonstrated in the book for the major respect and love she had for her. Along with this tragic death, she also found out that her dad, who had raised Cupcake his entire life, was not actually her father. Her mom had conceived her with a different man who had wanted nothing to do with her after she had the children, and never paid his child support. After court appointed custody, Cupcake and her brother were put in the care of her biological father. This was awful because her biological father was only in it for the life insurance check that both children would be receiving immediately, or so he thought. The one positive at this time in Cupcakes life was that that money would not be distributed until she turned the age of 18. Although Cupcake was aware of this, her biological father was not aware until he attempted to get the money and was declined the money. This infuriated and caused Mr. Burns (Cupcakes Biological father) to then drop them off with a random woman who was apparently a foster mother. The first thing Dianne (Foster Mother) said to Cupcake was what a stupid name she had. The funny story about......

To Define a Man Such as John Brown

...Tiffany Myers Professor Russo English 202B April 30, 2013 To Define a Man Such as John Brown It has been over one hundred and fifty years since John Brown and his army of twenty men swooped into Harpers Ferry, trying to execute their plan that was plotted in secret and launched in the dark. Since those fateful two days and the following executions many have posed the question: how should they remember John Brown? Was he a bloodthirsty zealot, a vigilante, a terrorist, or a madman? Or was he one of the great heroes of American history, a freedom fighter and martyr to the cause of human liberty? Or was he a prophet foretelling what was to befall the nation? Many people have since stated their opinions, such as Thoreau who calls John Brown a Christ figure, yet we still debate this topic and have no one clear definite answer. After reading some of the information about John Brown I believe him to be a combination of terrorist, martyr, and prophet. Not only does he fulfill the definitions of each label, but there are many examples to support them as well. John Brown was a man who willingly met death and sacrificed himself for his belief in ending slavery. He was also a man not afraid or easily cowed by the use of violence to bring about political change. A terrorist is a person who uses violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims(“terrorist” def. 1) John Brown uses violence multiple times in his pursuit to end slavery. Not only did he use it at......

The founding father of funk music and a major figure of 20th-century popular music and dance, he is often referred to as "The Godfather of Soul". In a career that spanned six decades, Brown influenced the development of several music genres.[2] Brown began his career as a gospel singer in Toccoa, Georgia. Joining an R&B vocal group called the Avons that later evolved to become The Famous Flames, Brown served as the group's lead singer.[3][4] First coming to national public attention in the late 1950s as a member of The Flames with the hit ballads "Please, Please, Please" and "Try Me", Brown built a reputation as a tireless live performer with the Famous Flames and his backing band, sometimes known as the James Brown Band or the James Brown Orchestra. Brown's success peaked in the 1960s with the live album Live at the Apollo and hit singles such as "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag", "I Got You (I Feel Good)" and "It's a Man's Man's Man's World". During the late 1960s, Brown moved from a continuum of blues and gospel-based forms and styles to a profoundly "Africanized" approach to music-making that influenced the development of funk music.[5] By the early 1970s, Brown had fully established the funk sound after the formation of The J.B.'s with records such as "Get Up (I Feel Like Being a) Sex Machine" and "The Payback". ...you to keep an eye on something that is quite valuable to me. I inherited it a while back, but I’m no longer comfortable leaving it in my home or in my office.” Langdon immediately felt uncomfortable. Anything “quite valuable” in Peter Solomon’s world had to be worth an absolute fortune. “How about a safe-deposit box?” Doesn’t your family have stock in half the banks in America? “That would involve paperwork and bank employees; I’d prefer a trusted friend. And I know you can keep secrets.” Solomon reached in his pocket and pulled out a small package, handing it to Langdon. Considering the dramatic preamble, Langdon had expected something more impressive. The package was a small cube-shaped box, about three inches square, wrapped in faded brown packing paper and tied with twine. From the package’s heavy weight and size, it felt like its contents must be rock or metal. This is it? Langdon turned the box in his hands, now noticing the twine had been carefully secured on one side with an embossed wax seal, like an ancient edict. The seal bore a double-headed phoenix with the number 33 emblazoned on its chest—the traditional symbol of the highest degree of Freemasonry. “Really, Peter,” Langdon said, a lopsided grin creeping across his face. “You’re the Worshipful Master of a Masonic lodge, not the pope. Sealing packages with your ring?” Solomon glanced down at his gold ring and gave a chuckle. “I didn’t seal this package, Robert. My greatgrandfather did. Almost a century ago.”......
