“The Best Years of Your Life”
It was a Wednesday morning, and was the first time in months my alarm clock was not set for 6:30 am. The month of June was finally here and as I laid in my bed, I suddenly flashbacked to the past four years of my life. Those cool fall Friday nights cheering from the stands at the football games. The wins and loses celebrated and suffered on the Basketball court and track. Getting ready and dancing the night away at Prom and the numerous amounts of stress from homework and tests, yet it was all worth the while in the end. As my day went on, the time approached to put on my fresh, crisp, orange robe and cap that I have been admiring for weeks. A tear suddenly fell down my face. This was it, tonight at 7:00pm; it was going to be the last time I would ever be with all 280 students of the class of 2011. It was a bittersweet feeling. I knew I had a bright and new future ahead of me, I knew things were never going to be the same, which petrified me.
My tears of uncertainly suddenly changed to tears of joy when my parents called me to come outside because they had a “surprise” for me. A million things were running through my mind however, once I opened my front door I nearly fainted. A brand new 2011 Navy Jeep was sitting in front of me. In an outburst I broke into tears and all I remember was my dad saying, “If you don’t like it, I will certainly keep it.” I was smiling from cheek to cheek. How could I be so lucky to be blessed with the greatest parents a girl could ask for? My night was suddenly turning into a fairytale and I was anxious to see how it was going to be played out. The commencement ceremony was unexpectedly coming to a close, and my fellow classmate and I were still taking in our valedictorian’s inspiring speech. I took a deep breathe in and realized that even though high school was over, and there was a new chapter of…...

“the Teenage Years Are the Best Years of One’s Life.” Do You Agree?

...“The teenage years are the best years of one’s life.” Do you agree? “Life is 10 percent what you make it and 90 percent how you take it.” These were the words of the late Irving Berlin, one of America’s most prolific songwriters in history. Indeed, one’s perception on his or her best years of life would largely depend on how he or she regards life. In my perspective, the idea of the best years would be the years where one experiences the most happiness, where the years are filled with love and laughter, while teenage years refers to the age 13 to 19 period. To many, the teenage years are without doubt the best years of their life, however to that many number of people, there are many more out there who do not agree. In a general overview, there are many cases that supports or contradicts the statement, so let us go further into this issue and take a stand. The teenage years have often been considered as the carefree years, free of worries and responsibilities. Being carefree has also been cited as one of the reasons that made teenage years the best years of one’s life. However, to what extent is that true? In my opinion, the best indication of being carefree is stress levels. According to a survey by the American Psychological Association, American teenagers experience their highest level of stress on an average of 6.5days per month. This is considerably low compared to countries like China and Singapore, where the competitiveness resulted in teenagers......

...Best of the Best Best of the Best is a movie about the world of martial arts combined with a fictional story line. Released in 1989, I saw this movie for the first time when I was only 10 years old and it has always been a personal favorite. Aside from some cheesy acting and basic storyline the movie itself has merit, not so much for the violence that is innate to the sport of Tae Kwon Do, but for the ending that is wrought with emotion. This movie does not glorify violence in the sport, but rather portrays it matter of fact. The premise of the movie revolves around a tournament between the South Koreans and Americans. The tournament is to be held in Seoul, South Korea and so the task begins of assembling the American team. James Earl Jones plays the role of Coach Frank Couzo who invites top and former great karate athletes to be a part of the five man team. (Lots of references to karate, but it is actually Tae Kwon Do). The five men are brought together, from different backgrounds and of course with varying personal struggles and personality conflicts ensue. Sonny (David Agresta), is an Italian, street smart, macho man. Virgil (John Dye) is the centering persona of the team. He is a Buddhist and expresses the need for calm and meditation. Travis (Chris Penn), is a bit of a hillbilly and has quite the temper. Alex (Eric Roberts), is a widower and has a son, Walter. Alex was forced to retire years ago after suffering a career ending shoulder injury. Tommy......

...Erickson's work. This will be accomplished by excerpting small portions of various published articles about his work, most of them of a transcriptual nature. Part III of this volume is a step-by-step, explicit presentation of the patterns identified in Parts I and II. This Part is intended to give you the skills necessary to construct each pattern through an understanding of its formal characteristics. Our belief is that in this way the patterns of Erickson's behavior will be made available to you for use in your own work. We strongly recommend that you read this volume carefully and that you spend some time experimenting with each pattern. This book is designed primarily as a training manual, not as a novel. Careful use and re-use will reap the best rewards for you. FOOTNOTE 1. Since I was quarantined at home on the farm, there was little diversion available. ...unethical or illegal behavior be in conflict with the goal of the firm? How does this complicate the agency problem? In order to proper assess this issue, the agency problem must be clearly identified. According to our text, the agency problem is a conflict of interest between stockholders and management. These problems arise because management’s job is to impress stockholders in investing more into the company. This could mean interpreting policy and procedures a bit more loosely to beef up numbers. This was something I experienced first-hand while working at a nationwide insurance company. The sales department is one of the most crucial parts of the company because they are the producers. I worked in this department more than five years. This experience allowed me to see how managers interpreted the rules and regulations in their own unique way. The rules were either firm or allowed to bend depending on the how close we were to our goals. Many instances of bending the policy and procedures could be construed as unethical or illegal behavior not condoned by the company. The stress of meeting daily, weekly, monthly numbers presses managers and employees to push the envelope by making inappropriate decisions. So in the end, it is a means to an end. The fact of the matter is the agency problem occurs more than we think. Whenever numbers have to be met, which is in almost all firms, unethical or illegal behavior will be loosely defined. Ross, S. A., Westerfield, R.......

Best Practice / Best Fit

...Organizations often implement a best practice or a best fit approach to strategic human resource management. A best practice approach would suggest that a set of universal practices could be applied to various different organizations in various different trades. On the other hand, a best fit approach to strategic human resource management would suggest that different practises would need to be put into play depending on different variables such as company culture, processes and external environmental factors. A best practice approach could be beneficial to an organizations attempt of strategic HRM as it would help the organization to make a profit and to obtain their long-term goals. In order to ensure that they are using a best practice approach, the organization would need to make strategic changes to the recruitment and selection process, rewards, training and to ensure that employees remain motivated and committed. A best practice approach could also be beneficial to strategic human resource management as best practice activities often strive to improve overall performance of an organization by selecting key best practices that may better the company such as training, appraisal and reward systems. A best practice approach may also be beneficial to an organization in terms of finding a solution, as the best practice approach is more universal, the solutions are proven to have been successful with other companies. The best fit approach to strategic HRM would entail......

Is Best Buy the Best?

...Is Best Buy the Best? Is Best Buy the Best? Best Buy is one of the leading retailers in electronics and electronic services. With the growing popularity of online shopping, some retail stores are experiencing less physical business and more e-commerce. Best Buy has adapted to this trend and is still able to maintain many stores throughout the nation. The company simultaneously provides an easily navigated website to reach all of its client preferences. To maintain a structure as this, a company must have superior management and functionality. There are four basic fundamentals that encompass the management of a successful business such as Best Buy. The traditional functions are planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. These functions are affected by several external and internal factors such as globalization, technology, innovation, diversity, and ethics. Five Common Factors In 2010, Best Buy separated itself as a company into three divisions; the Americas, Asia and Europe. Each division was created with an executive vice-president running each area who would report to the Chief Executive Officer (Ernst & Young Global Limited). When the company planned this out, it created a self-paced region instead of the entire company proceeding as a whole. In other words, Asia can progress at a different pace then the Americas in all aspects. This plan enabled all regions and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to use their brains and ideas from clients to develop more......

Best Four Years of Your Life

...The Best Four Years of Your Life Growing up you always hear from adults and current college students that college is one of the best experiences of your life. It is your motivation all through out school to do your homework, study and get good grades so you are able to get in to any college you want. I remember my first college tour it was to University of South Carolina instantly I fell in love. Once I experienced the campus for the first time I knew it was a place I could call home. Getting my acceptance letter was one of the best days of my life before I knew it summer was over and it was move in day. Little did I know there were a lot of things I did not know about being a college student that I am gradually starting to figure out. There are a lot of changes that come with going to college and the way in which you deal with them all depends on you as a person. One of the hardest problems people tend to face coming to college is going to a new place where you really don’t know that many people and there are a ton of new faces. Through out my life I’ve always had to move a lot with my dad being in the military, I hated it at the time but now I am grateful for it because it made me who I am today. Always having to make new friends made me outgoing and not afraid to walk up to someone new and start talking to them. It made me not afraid to try new things and made me learn how to adapt to new places and new schools. Coming to college is such an exciting experience because......

...BEST BUY CASE: Yiming Dong 1. What examples of environmental scanning do you see in the case? What role do you think environmental scanning has played in the company’s future? Although Best Buy is trying to become a perfect electronics retailer, it is not easy to deal with those challenges from external environment. For example, many other retailers, the economic climate has forced Best Buy to carefully consider its strategic options. In my own opinion, I believe that Best Buy will face more challenges in the future. Because as the improvement of technology and science, information is easier obtained by other competitors than before. So Best Buy must think about a good strategy to keep and hold the best information and technology. 2. Using the five competitive factors approach and the information in the case, do a brief industry-competitive analysis. Existing Competitors: We could find lots of products provided by Wal-Mart and Target that are same as goods from Best Buy. However, Best Buy is an electronics retailer, others are super market. Possible Competitors: There are also some possible competitors in the market. For example, we can buy some phones from Amazon and E-bey. Alternative Industry Providers: Although we could buy the same product in other places, there is no any electronics retailer like Best Buy. 3. Analysis of Best Buy’s Financial Statements of Year Ending February 2014

...Subject: Analysis of Best Buy’s financial statements of year ending February 2014 Date: 04/12/2015 Introduction: This memorandum is a clear and detailed analysis of Best Buy’s financial statements of year ending February 2014. I have analyzed the statements in the following perspectives: revenues and expenses, assets and liabilities, financial flexibilities, ownership structure, estimations and faithful representations. Considering overall conditions I have analyzed, I recommend to buy the stock of Best Buy for a long time and buy a 10 year long bonds. Revenues and Expenses Analysis Revenues Best Buy Co., Inc., as a worldwide retailer specializing in selling technology products, generates its revenues mainly by accepting online orders and setting retail stores in many countries, including United States, Canada, China and Mexico (Merchandise and Services, 5). Best Buy also provides technological services in some areas, as another way to generate revenues (Description of Business, 4). Revenue is recognized from fixed sales price of merchandise and services, extended warranties, gift cards and credit financing (Revenue Recognition, 67). All of these mentioned resources lead to the total after-tax revenue, which is listed in its income statement. The income statement is comprised of three consecutive years revenue, making it easy to be compared by outsider investors. After analyzing the revenue, it is easy to find that the total revenue of fiscal year ended 2014,......

By the mid-1990s, local banks had captured a quarter of the commercial bank market in both Nigeria and Kenya, a fifth in Zambia and about 15 per cent in Uganda. Local 3 Nigeria is an exception. Local banks were set up there during the colonial period, in the late 1920s/early 1930s and the early 1950s. The Best Years of Our Lives

...In the movie, The Best Years of Our Lives is about three soldiers adjusting to life after coming home from the war (WWII). In the film director William Wyler used an array of techniques to capture different feelings and emotions of each protagonist in the movie, as they adjust to life at home. In the bar scene where Al Stephenson and Fred Derry met to discuss Fred’s relationship with Al’s daughter, Peggy. In a wide shot view at the beginning of the scene when Fred walks into the bar, the viewer can see Al sitting in the booth at Butch’s bar then Fred walks in, into the bar in the background. Fred eventually takes a seat with Al in the booth, when Al’s Face comes into view finally He's background is dark as if he is coming from the shadows, this is different because throughout the film Al has this bright aura to him. In an over-the-shoulder shot the camera focuses on Al asking his friend if he loved his daughter Peggy, then the camera focused back onto Fred in another over-the-shoulder shot as Fred tries to process what Fred is asking of Al. When Fred answers Al with a Yes, that he did love Peggy, the view becomes a two shot view. Now both Al and Fred are in the shot, and the viewer can see both recations form each protagnoist. After a profound and heated discussion among both men, the camera as another close up Al asking Fred what was he going to do about his relationship with Peggy. Al then tells Fred that he no longer wants his friend to see his daughter and to end......
