The movie Apocalypto depicts the journey of a Mesoamerican tribesman who must escape human sacrifice and rescue his family after the capture and destruction of his village. It happened during the declining period of the Mayan tribe. In this movie, the Mayan society is in its breaking period, thus needing resources in order to support their social, political and spiritual needs. So, in order for them to survive, they need to scour hectares of forests to locate any valuable resources either from trees, caves, destroyed societies or plundering any weak societies around them. To know what kind of social theory it actually depicts, we need to look first in the different aspects of their society. In their social aspects, men are born to fight and rule while women are born to be slaves; therefore, males are important in this society. Men are used to hunt for the resources that were said earlier and they are dominant in this society. Without them, the society is nothing. In their political aspect, governing the tribe has a relation to their beliefs. Politics and Religion are fused together here because of the high priest and the emperor being partners in ruling the entire kingdom. They are responsible for the whole kingdom’s survival of the people and their beliefs. In their declining period, they emphasizes conflict theory because of their need to search resources by salvaging any other societies in order to support their needs. Dominant societies plunder smaller ones to survive so that no one will ever take away their resources or they will be used as resources. These characteristics are being resembled by the Mayans through its people and their interaction with the other…...

Apocalypto Summary

...of Apocalypto Set in Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula (Central America), during the 16th century, Mel Gibson’s, Apocalypto follows the journey of a Mayan villager by the name of “Jaguar Paw”. This adaptation of the Mayan Empire illuminates a prophecy, surrounding Jaguar. The movie was historically accurate as far as Mayan Empire culture and the sacrificial process. The appearance of the Mayans in this film was spot on. They had stretched ear lobes, long hair, outlandish headdresses, burn scars, and tattoos. It didn’t delve into the every day life enough for it to be accurate, or inaccurate. The opening scenes consisted of hunting, and a village campfire, and that’s as far as it went for daily life. Where it was inaccurate and somewhat flawed was the over take of the village. Apocolytpo dramatically told the story of the villagers being captured, and many people argue that the Mayan’s were not as malicious as they were portrayed. Some Maya researches argue that the film is “violent and depraved”. Jaguar and his fellow village members are peaceful and harmonious together. On an early morning Jaguar wakes from a dream and quickly notices warriors with torches surrounding the village. The village people are brutally beaten, slaughtered, and dragged away as captive to be sold as slaves, and offered as sacrifice for their God. In the midst of the gory demise of the village, Jaguar hides his childbearing wife (Seven), and toddler sun (Turtles Run) into a deep hole. The......

...Apocalypto 1. While observing the film “Apocalypto” I noticed various aspects that represented religious faith of the Mayan culture. One of the prominent aspects I noticed was the Mantu. The Mantu also seen as the soul of nature, animals and of humans were shown right from the beginning of the movie during the hunt. During the hunt the tribal men paid their respect to the slaughtered animal, which they believed to be a living soul, ultimately part of the Mantu. They believed they needed to show gratitude for the animal by respecting the carcass and using it in the most economical way. The Mayans believed that humans and animals were closely related. Another aspect of the Mayan faith that I noticed involved various rituals. Dance was used to bring together and celebrate the hunt. Dancing was a way to express their spirituality and celebrate it. Sacred stories were also used during the dance celebration. Sacred stories were used to explain who they were, where they came from and how they were to behave. This ritual was recited by the chief of the tribe and the tribe was gathered around by the fire in celebration. 2. Apocalypto communicates many positive aspects that give comfort to the soul, including the message of rejecting fear as a sickness, again alluding to todays society where fear is used as a method of control. Many difficulties arisen for Jaguar Paw throughout the film the influence of his father and the words “not to fear” helped jaguar Paw get......

We do gain some insight into the arduous processes of recreating an entire civilization with fantastically enormous sets and hundreds of extras. Painstaking details are insisted upon for nearly every aspect of Apocalypto. The featured filmmakers, including director Mel Gibson and writer/co-producer Farhad Safinia discuss how their major goal was to ensure that the audience felt as if they were watching actual events and that someone had merely captured intense footage of real people doing factual activities. ...The movie opened with a quote “A great civilization is not conquered from without until it has destroyed itself from within”-Will Durant. Then the camera focuses on the outskirts of a forest slowly zooming in and introducing us to a group of Mayan villagers chasing a wild boar. This scene is where we are introduced to the main character, Jaguar Paw. Jaguar Paw was the son of the chief of the village. As they are splitting the meat of the pig they caught another tribe wanders by only asking for permission to pass. The presumed leader of that passing tribe warns Jaguar Paw that they are leaving because their campsite was invaded. Jaguar Paw and the Chief noticed the looks fear and terror on their faces. However they push this back in their mind and started to head back to their village. That night they gathered around their elders to hear stories and everything went on without disruption. What Is Film

...man Director Mel Gibson Film analysis Gibson filmed Apocalypto mainly in Catemaco, San Andrés Tuxtla and Paso de Ovejas in the Mexican state of Veracruz. The waterfall scene was filmed at Salto de Eyipantla, located in San Andrés Tuxtla. Other filming by second-unit crews took place in El Petén, Guatemala. The film was originally slated for an August 4, 2006, release, but Touchstone Pictures delayed the release date to December 8, 2006, due to heavy rains and two hurricanes interfering with filming in Mexico. Principal photography ended in July 2006. Apocalypto was shot on high-definition digital video, using the Panavision Genesis camera.[12] During filming, Gibson and cinematographer Dean Semler employed the use of Spydercam,[13] a suspended camera system allowing shooting from atop. This equipment was used in a scene in which Jaguar Paw leaps off a waterfall. We had a Spydercam shot from the top of [the] 150-foot (46 m) waterfall, looking over an actor's shoulder and then plunging over the edge – literally in the waterfall. I thought we'd be doing it on film, but we put the Genesis [camera] up there in a light-weight water housing. The temperatures were beyond 100 degrees at [the] top, and about 60 degrees at the bottom, with the water and the mist. We shot two fifty-minute tapes without any problems – though we [did get] water in there once and fogged up.[12] A number of animals are featured in Apocalypto, including a Baird's tapir and a black jaguar.......

...Project in Math Chapter 6 Circular Functions and Trigonometry Submitted to: Mrs. Velasco Submitted by: Angelo Jet Manarin IV – Bravo Angles & Their Measures A definition of an angle would be that an angle is the union of two rays that have the same endpoint. The sides of the angles are the two rays, while the vertex is their common endpoint.  stands for an angle. You can put it in front of three letters which represent points. The first and third letters represent points on each of the rays that form one of the sides. The middle letter represents the vertex. As you can see in the diagram, each point is represented in the written form. The letters can go either way - that is, first and last letter are interchangeable. So, that angle could either be ABC or CBA. Since B is the vertex, it is always in the middle of the two letters. You can also name an angle by just the letter of its vertex. So, for the example in the picture, the angle could also be labeled B. That's only if there are no other angles that share the same vertex. There is a third way to label angles. In the third way, each angle is designated with a number, so the example could be labeled 1 or 2 or whatever you wanted. Angles are measured in degrees. The number of degrees tell you how wide open the angle is. You can measure angles with a protracter, and you can buy them at just about any store that carries school items. Degrees are marked by a ° symbol. For those of you whose browsers can't interpret that,......

...Gerhard Lenski saw the society as a product of the development of technology.According to him, it is the technology which shapes one’s society. Lenski’s socioculturalevolution consists of five societies, mainly, the hunting and gathering society, the horticulturaland pastoral society, the agricultural society, the industrial society, and lastly the post-industrialsociety. These societies evolved through the creation of new technology that enables us human toincrease production and to sustain a larger amount of population. The movie, Apocalypto, features the first four type of society in Lenski’s socioculturalevolution. Jaguar Paw’s tribe in my opinion is a hunter-gatherer society but it is having itstransition to the horticultural-pastoral society. Jaguar Paw’s tribe belongs to the hunter-gatherer society since they hunt for their food as seen in the very beginning of the movie wherein theycaught a wild boar in the middle of the forest. The tribe of Jaguar Paw also has a shaman who isin the person of the dad of Jaguar Paw, Flint Sky. Their tribe was also family-centered since itwas like they treated each other like brothers and sisters. They are concerned with each other likea family does with each other. In the movie, the dad of Jaguar Paw once told him that heshouldn’t show his fear to the neighbourhood since it will greatly affect the whole tribe. If we areto compare it to the present, usually, people won’t take into consideration the feelings of others. It is like people......
