Dear Ma’am Maurine M. Ambalina

Good day! I am very sorry for being absent in your class for almost one month. I had been undergoing a very personal family crisis which made me think to make a decision if I am going to continue or give up my studies but I had finally decided to continue my course for my child. I want to continue my course if you still accept me in our class.

Should you still accept me? I’m willing to do make up requirements to be able to cope with the lost time. Thank you for your very kind consideration.

Respectfully Yours,

Functional Characterization of Chitin and Chitosan

...oligosaccharides (DP2, DP3, DP4, DP5 and DP7) in wound healing as well as their capacity against chronic bowel disease has been studied. For the first time, a mucin-stimulating effect of chitin oligomers DP3 and DP5 has been observed in an ex-vivo model [122]. The wound healing effect of chitin and chitosan oligomers and monomers is of great interest because in vivo lysozyme degrades chitin and chitosan to these smaller molecules. 6.2. Drug Delivery Systems An important application of chitosans in industry is the development of drug delivery systems such as nanoparticles, hydrogels, microspheres, films and tablets (Fig. 4). As a result of its cationic character, chitosan is able to react with polyanions giving rise to polyelectrolyte complexes [123124]. Pharmaceutical applications include nasal, ocular, oral, parenteral and transdermal drug delivery. Three main characteristics of chitosan to be considered are: Mw, degree of acetylation and purity. When chitosan chains become shorter (low Mw chitosan), it can be dissolved directly in water, which is particularly useful for specific applications in biomedical or cosmetic fields, when pH should stay at around 7.0. In drug delivery, the selection of an ideal type of chitosan with certain characteristics is useful for developing sustained drug delivery systems, prolonging the duration of drug activity, improving therapeutic efficiency and reducing side effects. Kofuji et al. suggested that the physicochemical characteristics of......

In the case of Mercantile Credit Co Ltd v Garrod [1962] 3 All ER 1103, Garrod and Perkin are partners in a garage business. In their partnership agreement, buying and selling of card as part of their business is prohibited. However, Perkin breached the agreement by selling a car that did not belong to him to Mercantile Credit without knowing by Garrod. Mercantile sued partners and claimed for refund. The issue in this case is whether Mercantile can sue Garrod which is the innocent partner for refund. The court decided that, Mercantile can sue Garrod for refund as the selling of car is within the scope of their partnership business. (Harris, Hargovan and Adams, 123124). Other than that, the act has to be in the usual way of the partnership business. In the case of Goldberg v Jenkins [1889] 15 VLR 36, a partner borrowed money on behalf of other partners with an interest rate of 60% and fail to pay for the repayment. The court decided that such act of borrowing was not in the usual way of partnership business, so the load agreement did not bind the firm. (Harris, Hargovan and Adams, 124). Besides, the third party must not know that the partner has no authority, which the third party can presume that an individual partner with whom they are dealing is given authority by the firm. Lastly, the third party must believe or know that he or she is a partner (Harris, Hargovan and Adams, 125). Section 16 of......
